Shadowcatcher for Filament?
in The Commons
I'm trying to render some spritesheets with Filatoon, but the lack of shadow is not ideal for integrating the sprites afterward. Is there a way to achieve that in-engine, or would I need to render the shadow in Iray or 3Delight?

It was already explained in the forum thread about Filament usage.
Try to search for it.

Ah, apologies: I do know how to get shadows with Filatoon (though I do appreciate the extra resources, as there are some tips and tricks I wasn't aware of). What I'm trying to get is a render of just the shadow, or, at least, the figure and its shadow, as if I were using a traditional shadowcatcher or the Iray ground plane. I could settle for a quick way to automate a "shadow extraction" in Photoshop, though. I guess I could render twice with a solid plane under the figure and make an action to extract the difference? It sounds like a waste of resources for any long-term project, though, and I'd rather be able to just do it in one pass.
EDIT: Basically, I want the shadow to have a bit of transparency so that I can then set the sprite in different backgrounds and have it seem integrated with them.
