Is This Surface Master Tutorial still relevent?

https://www.daz3d.com/ds-surface-master-part-1 ; Would this still be useful given all the changes to Daz recently? Specifically the Alpha  version, although I believe changes have been made to how lighting works in 4.24 as well.  Not sure if the shader information is still valid either

I doubt it will be relevant for DAZ Studio 4.24, after 3delight was removed.  If you have an older version of DS from before 3delight was removed it might be helpful.

I was afraid of that.  don't know why the link all of a sudden doesn't work, its in the shop under one of the special categories for march madness.

The link has some garbage on the end. That happens sometimes when sharing links in the forum.

There's a lot of 3DL product still being hawked, which I would think would at least need a disclaimer on things like shaders stating that they probably won't work in future versions of DS.

The fancier shaders likely won't work properly in the present versions of DS. I say likely because I've not installed 4.24 without 3DL or any of the next version alphas.

Daz3D really should delist that stuff.

If the price is right, I'll still pick up 3DL stuff - so I'd prefer if it were simply clearly marked with a 3DL specific disclaimer...

kinda like old poser, bryce, and the occasional dawn items still woven into the site...

DS still has the tools for converting the known 3Delight materials to Iray, so it is only custom shaders that will absolutely not carry over (as they have not all along).

RIP, I just picked up that tutorial before seeing this thread. Going to keep it because it was deeply discounted & I do still use 3Delight.

Same here! I'd like to see it categorized, but still want to be able to purchase it. Tons of products have Iray/3Delight materials bundled together as well.

Just skimmed through the tutorial and it's all still relevant, but introductory.

You can use the Shader Mixer / Shader Builder in Daz Studio for Iray shaders too. https://www.youtube.com/watch/Gxr63NIwGNI?t=160

The theory pertaining to shaders, overview of shader panels in Daz Studio, and adjusting shaders & textures on purchased assets is generally still relevant. They dig into the Shader Mixer / Shader Builder to create some examples as well. Video quality is passable but old, Daz Studio version they're working with ranges from 3.1 (mid 2011) to 4.6 Pro (late 2014)

Shader Builder was for compiling RSL code and will not be iin DS 6, Shader mixer is usable for both Iray and 3Delight and will still be present.

Thanks!  I may still pick it up at some point.
