I will add append to import external scanner, though your reliance on that will diminish when you acquire tabbed compartment scanning. All of your troubleshooting comments are VERY helpful people!
I completely understand. Probably doesn't need to be a screenshot for every step.
I find that Meipe does an amazing job at finding the minimum number of screenshots needed while maximizing page space.
It's a pain to do, though you can drastically reduce the screenshot file size by converting the image to WebP format and then you can use the WebP screenshot in the manuals. It might be worth testing out.
Thanks! That's great.
Ok, so I've tried that and half the time when I reload the saved file, there are folders missing that were there previously. These are not necessarily the same folders that went missing to prompt me to reload. The folders are just gone, and the assets that were previously in them no show as not being in a folder (no truth icon, no option to remove from folder). This seems to happen regardless of whether the folders were created in the main screen or in the Organizer screen. I've been reloading the same file, so I think for now I'm going to abandon the 800 or so files I've already sorted and start completely fresh. If the new one starts losing folders, I'm probably just going to write this off as a wasted $5 and go back to sorting with Daz's native options. They're slow and clunky, but at least things stay where I put them.
Don't abandon your work, just save it, save folders, panels, tabs and all tabs. Your work will not be in vain. The new update will respect your work and revive all orphaned folders and prevent this from happening. EZFinder is new and still in development. A fix is on the way, learn the program because eventually what you see as a vision for organization will work perfectly. Get your most used items in some basic folders and even just that saves you from having to look around for them. If I rush the update we may still have issues. Your issue is a top priority.
I finished editing the manual and adding the images you requested. The Word document and PDF have pictures and the text version of the manual has no pictures.
I've saved the old stuff, but I'm kind of hoping the file I was using just got corrupted or something since I've done a couple resets and one complete uninstall and reinstall, so the file I keep reloading is the only thing that's hasn't been nuked and restarted from scratch. I'm doing a broader sort this time so I don't have to look at the file details as often (I can just throw all the shaping tools into one folder instead of checking to see if it's HD or proportions or whatever), so getting back to where I was should be a lot faster this time around. I'm doing a Dewy Decimal type structure so I can go back and refine into subcategories later.
It seems like, e.g. you have scads (like lots) of pages in a category, say 100, you can't type e.g 33, into the white page counter to get directly to that page. It would be nice if you could.
That will work, but I have noticed that some keys (backspace and delete at least) don't always work if you put your cursor in the wrong place. Seems fine if you start with your cursor in the far right position and work from there.
If you type in the page number you want to go to and then hit the enter key on your keyboard, it should take you to that page. Please let me know if that works.
I have finished the update for you all, I just need to test it a lot to make sure it is stable. Any suggestions for new features you need to let me know ASAP.
Just sorted about 50 pages with no disappearing folders, so hopefully the previous save file I was using just got broken somehow.
Until you get the new update, in the EZOrganizer, try to avoid naming virtual folders with the same names and avoid deleting virtual folders (repurpose them instead).
Avoid loading duplicate folders. The new update addresses these issues.
Page selection. Hitting enter works. I was tabbing and/or clicking the arrow.
Maybe it has already been suggested (or possible), but it would be nice if it could scan the DIM downloads folder and catalog packages not installed. There is no way I have everything installed.
Thanks for the request DoctorJellybean! Maybe Richard could comment on this, but it is my understanding that the DIM should see everything in your downloads folder and install them. I believe it looks online to your account and checks if everything you have bought is installed. Even though there are things that have been discontinued in the Daz Store, Daz still holds on to them and allows you to install them. If I am incorrect about this, let me know and I will investigate this as a possible EZFinder feature. I guess I have just assumed that the DIM installs everything it finds that you have purchased.
The download tab shows products you need to redownload and the uninstalled tab shows what is not installed, and you can select them all and reinstall if needed.
If you have third-party items there, I am not sure what DIM does about them.
DIM does have an option to install a download automatically, mine is unchecked. Otherwise the library can get quite big.
If you are concerned because you do not have enough space on your storage drive, look into splitting your content to another drive though I do not recommend this. I prefer the option of getting a drive large enough to fit all of your items but this is not always possible. Splitting your content can lead to Daz not finding files.
EZFinder only partially indexes DUF files (not individual textures/images), cataloging every texture across multiple drives would be a massive scope change and probably impractical, thousands, perhaps millions of texture files across drives could take forever to index. So realistically, EZFinder probably can't help much with the missing texture problem specifically. The split-drive issue is really a Daz Studio pathing problem, not something a DUF search tool should try to solve. The advice, just to get a bigger drive, is probably the best answer.
"Scan progress and jokes always on"
That blurb made me laugh. I also appreciated the fun comments in the progress window.
Still trying to figure me way through the software, but I very much like the ability to create detailed, customized searches in the fly.
I am glad you like the jokes in the log Blando Calrissian something to help pass the time.
It is very interesting to learn how people use the software. I will be adding features to help in those areas that I did not expect people to use as much.
I did not think the custom scans would be used as much and there is a possibility of expanding the software to scan items from other sources as well, for easy organization and import.
A couple of times I removed the external search from the program, then I added it back. Because the external scan folders needed to stay in place unlike your Daz library that can move and the folders will still work. But now the program has "healing" added to custom scans. This is helpful if you change computers.
Each scan creates a .JSON file and keeps track of the folder location. As long as you locate that .JSON file and tell the program where the scan file items folder exists, the scans and their virtual folders, images... should work again on a new PC with different path locations.
Always back up your user data folder EZFinderUSER in the cloud or somewhere safe. Even for very large libraries it is only a couple of megabytes. This will guarantee you never have to redo your library. Add a date to your user data folder backup i.e. "EZFinderUSER 3-5-26" so you know the latest version. Have fun and make awesome, beautiful art!
This is way out in left field, but since I've started using EZFinder and it's hdri section, loading a hdri from EZF to Studio directly, Studio no longer is saving my hdri choice in 'environment option settings' when I save a scene and close it. It retuns to the Studio default. I've looked at the f2 preferences and they are as they should be. I can't say if that is when the problem started for me exactly, but it's close enough that I'm wondering if there a possibility that EZF changed something in Studio's code?
Hello Random! EZFinder just passes the file path to Daz's standard content loader, it doesn't touch environment settings or scene saving.
The path that works when you load the HDRI is the same path Daz would need to save with the scene, so this isn't an EZFinder issue.
Check Edit > Preferences > Content > Content Directory Manager for overlapping or duplicate library entries. If Daz resolves the same file through a different library path on save vs reload, it can lose track of it.
You should generally only have one My Daz3d Library listing there. If you have more than one reach out to Daz Support or start a forum thread addressing this issue specifically
I've looked and there are two, the content directory I've been using for 12+ years where all my content is downloaded to (Q:/dazstudio3), and then q:/daz which holds my saved scenes (going back to 2012) and scene subsets, presets, etc. Like I said, never had any trouble before. Everything saves ok except render settings and it's only the 'environment' tab that reverts to default, filtering, optimization and the rest are all saved and reopened o.k.
EZFinder's EZHDRI — Clean Environment Loading
A key advantage of EZFinder's EZHDRI is that it writes a clean, minimal DUF that only sets specific channel values on your
existing Environment nodes:
- Environment Mode
- Dome Mode
- Draw Dome
- Environment Intensity
- Environment Map (the HDR file path)
No scripts. No node replacement. No legacy baggage.
PA HDRI presets often bundle:
- Scene setup scripts
- Light presets
- Full node replacements
- Legacy module versions
- Tonemapper overrides
You can access PA-created render settings and run them from EZFinder just like you can from Smart Content. They can corrupt
your Environment settings — but that's the PA script doing it, not EZFinder.
This is exactly why I made EZHDRI — to avoid loading PA scripts and only load the image. Use your own render settings to
tweak it. If an HDRI corrupted your Environment tab, it was not EZHDRI.
EZFinder just says: "Here's the image, put it in the Environment Map slot." Clean in, clean out.
If your Environment tab is corrupted from an old PA preset, you'll need to recreate the Environment and Tonemapper nodes
from scratch. Inquire in the forums for steps, and stay away from legacy HDRI scripts going forward.
I appreciate your help here in trying to understand what happened; could easily be some older hdri preset messing things up as I like to play with this and that. Will ask in the technical section. Thanks!
Edit: Mr Google suggested a workaround, saving a render preset for the scene.
Glad you figured it out Random
Any updates will appear in DIM once it is live.
