[Add 3rd party models to DAZ:] I have found tons of things online that says it can be done but after following multiple rabbit holes I still can't find the correct way to do it. Ideas?

Thanks

Do you mean content in Daz Studio format, or content in other formats?

If you mean DazStudio content from other stores then I would recommend Content Wizard to help install them. Bear in mind that some other stores can have less consistency with regards to how their products are packaged and so this can cause some issues for any tool to help with installing.  Therefore, I advise not only setting up a separate content library for 3rd party products but also familiarising yourself with the general proceedure so you can understand if/when anything goes a little wrong.

If you are talking about non-DazStudio assets then that is a much more complicated topic.

  • I believe I am talking about getting a file from say Rendrocity and then importing it into DAZ. DAZ content not Poser or others.I will try Content Wzard.

Ahh, OK. Yes, Renderosity do sell DazStudio products and so Content Wizard will help with those. There is an official support/info thread for it here if you need general help with it.

I have not bought much from there recently due to a few life things and also many of the PAs moved here. From what I remember most of their products imported correctly. However, I don't know if that is due to a site-QA or I just got lucky with PAs who packaged their products correctly.

  • Having looked at content and having no assurances that it works I am going to give it a miss and try other optionsif there are any.

You could try Content Package Assist to make a DIM-ready package. You can re-arrange the asset folders as you like (just don't move the \data or \runtime folders). It will generate the manifest and supplement files with the product info that you can supply.

I use it often to package third party products. Tip: don't use IM as the source prefix, you could run into numbering conflicts with DAZ products. I use RM (for Renderosity Marketplace), HW (for Hivewire3D, while it was around), etc., and the original SKU. You can get thumbnail files to show in DIM if you name it the same as the first part of the DIM Package (i.e., RM00xxxxxx.jpg). Make a small version of a promo pic and save it in the DIM-designated thumbnail folder.

Honestly, drag and drop works just fine.  Just open your my daz library folder, open the files from Rendo and drag them to the correct folder.  No need to make it complicated

It is a matter if ypu want metadata or not.

If not it is fine just to drop it.
