Eduardo 9

First off, he's a nice looking figure, though not really as ripped as one would expect for a mercenary and that crooked nose will definitely limit his usefulness in dial spinning.  That said, DAZ may have hit a new low in cheaping out on the bundle by counting the gun for the KuJ Urban Mercenary outfit as a completly seperate product.  Seriously, the outfit comes with an empty holster and belt that doesn't appear to even be able to be opened, removed or hidden?

    Thanks for starting the thread!

Yeah well, for me he's absoluteTIHI. His face looks  like a whiny man-child's, you can literally hear him go: But I wanted the other burritos, how come you never buy the groceries that want ... No board and room in my runtime for him, sorry devil

I like Eduardo 9 when mixed with other G9 base figures, such as Harlow 9. Otherwise, he looks like one of the many unfriendly white Daz guys with thin lips; nothing really special. The character bundle is okay, although I don't really like the Geert Wilders hairstyle. But I do like the outfit.

He is supposed to be Diego Luna...

Daz customers clearly have a preference for more generic vanilla looking people and will deploy physiognomy to any that deviate from that.  I personally have no use for him either, but just making an observation.

I like he's a bit different. We can't all be beautiful.

Not sure I love the pec wrinkles, but I guess it can happen. Hard to get face wrinkles to render well without it making the character look doll-like. I don't think we've had any as good as Zack 9 yet (https://www.daz3d.com/zack-9-hd) but I'll give this guy a go. Got his HD bundle already with a coupon and tokens.

Nice likeness to Diego Luna, the skin is underwhelming and the body isn't to my taste. I wouldn't use any of the new clothes. The pants on the mercenaryone sit comically high and the shirt of the engineering outfit lacks collar and cuff details.

Yeah, I don't know if it's the specular settings, or if the normals are overapplied or what, but the skin looks like sandpaper.

  • I am kind of neutral on him. He's an okay guy character that looks like Diego Luna  but that's it. I will confess to being briefly afraid, when I saw the name, that we might be getting a sparkly new vampire character. And the Premier Exclusive Emmet promo (on the figure page) reminds me of Harry Mudd from Star Trek the Original Series.

I had to look up Diego Luna, once Star Wars went behind a Disney paywall I lost access. Thanks for the reference.

I will buck the trend of tearing him down. I like him. He immediately struck me as someone who I see on the street and around my world. Not movie star/model handsome or so glossy you wonder if they are real. You can believe he is real, works a job that requires you to sweat. Or blend into the background until you go into action as someone undercover. Part of a team and relied on.

Regarding the outfits, yeah not great. I object to the lack of pockets and those knee pads. I really would like the knee pads could be removed and the pants used without them. As someone who dispares of finding coats with pockets to carry basic things, I evaluate every coat, jacket, hoodie... for that. And that gun and pose set, it should have been included with the outfit.

Not sure if that spacecraft will trip Disney's TM or not. Not sure I want/need another product I can't use safely without fearing a lawsuit.

    I like the sculpt.

Have we seen this character before? Not that I can remember.

Is he distinctive? Yes, I could pick him out in a line/up at 30 yards.

Is he attractive? Not relevant to me. Eye of the beholder and all that. And I'm firmly in the camp that everyone can be made to look attractive with a little presentation. I saw a thread here recently about the most ugliest female sculpt in the store, which made me chuckle as I've mixed the G3 character under discussion into who I consider to the most striking character I've dialed on G9. I can't take my eyes off her. I'm sure I could dial similar with this gent. Already enjoying looking at him as is. Characters like this, unless you're sculpting your own, will set your projects apart if you use them at lower dials in mixes.

Haven't looked too deeply yet at his textures etc. But I just want to say yes please to Daz. If I was on Premier I'd snap him up.

Skin looks 8.1. And his morph has an unfinished, uncanny nature (somewhat stylistic?) that reminds me of Jazz 8.1, Pablo 8.1, or Hans 8.1. Not even the excellent Daz promo artists were able to consistently bring him to verisimilitude (although a couple did); so, I probably won't be able to either.

As I was downloading my products, I really looked at the details and saw on Short Wavy Hair and Beard for Genesis 9 the following.

    Compatible Software:

    Daz Studio 2025 / 6.X

Odd, we will ask if there is an issue with DS 4 using this product; I can't immediately see why there would be.

I believe this character would be perfect for playing an illusionist or some kind of green giant; I'll definitely choose this one for this month's free Character Bundle.

I thought it was Edward Norton just me then.

Same. As soon as I saw the promo page I was like, oh, Edward Norton.  So you're not alone, lol.

I also thought him to be be Edward Norton ((Eduardo) from Fight Club & Primal Fear (Twilight). He's spot on and earlier forum post description of him looking like a whiner that's exactly his personality in the opening of Fight Club. I have never heard of Diego Luna mentioned earlier so I looked up his photos and he looks similar to Edward Norton too, so I see why some think Eduardo was modelled after Diego Luna as well. In any case, this is a unique DAZ character, it lists an asymmmetry morph so that's not a usual thing either in the character bundles, quite different, but I'll get it next month, unless a Toon 9 or Girl 9 bundle comes in before March as this month I'm getting Wendy 9 HD Character Bundle | Daz 3D before she's removed from the Premeire list.

Must admit my first thought was Predro Pascal (but maybe becuase he's everywhere and I was looking through the tech engineer outfit that caught my eye)  Now all I can see is Diego Luna lol.

I see no value in any of the DO bundles anymore and mostly just pick and choose third party items from my trusted PA's

I haven't watched any of the shows he's possibly based off of, so can't comment on likeness.

Overall... I like that he's kind of ordinary. I don't have a need for more characters unless they match up with someone in my cast that I've yet to make, and he doesn't check that box, but I did put him on my wishlist. At some point when the price is right I'll likely get him.

Not at all interested in any of the stuff in his bundles, but that's typical for me.

You never know when you need a guy who can be sitting quietly in a background shot, drinking coffee/tea and reading the paper/phone/book. But just shows up occasionally and keeps everyone wondering what is his story. Is polite, tips good, ... never interacts. Just there, until all of a sudden ... you need a hero, bad guy, whatever.

Yeah, which is why he's on my WL. But at this point most of my scenes I'm rendering aren't in public places where there would be background characters, and I definitely have enough to fill anything that turns up in the short term. Of course, a character might dive bomb my head and demand some priority treatment (wouldn't be the first time)... but if tht happens, hey! Easy to find!

His bundles point more to Diego Luna than Ed Norton as Luna is likely best known for playing Cassian Andor in Rogue One and the Andor show on Disney+. Also, the character's physique is more accurate to Luna than Norton, but it's interesting how changing the hair style allows the character to go either way.
