I know this has been discussed before but i cant seem to find it. Can someone please tell me the  best way to transfer all my content from one external drive to another larger onr without  uninsalling all my content .

  • For Windows, if the original drive doesn't have anything else that needs to stay in the same place, you could just copy it all across, then assign an unused drive letter to the old drive and then give the new drive the drive letter for the original - that would be completely transparent. Open Disc management (right-click on Start /Windows logo button) then right-click on the drive and select the Change Dive letter and paths option.

I just did this except that I didn't change any drive letters as I was just backing everything up.  Depending on how much stuff you have it might take awhile.  It took me about 2 days but I have terabytes of product.

I did something similar a year ago as well.  I install all of my content to two external HDDs (5 TB each); I use DIM for my primary content drive and manually install the same content to the other HDD.  If I don’t forget to do any of the manual installs, the two HDDs are identical.  When I dropped my primary HDD one weekend last year, I changed the drive letter of the backup HDD to the drive letter that the primary HDD used to have.  I discovered a few items that I had not manually installed to the backup HDD, but they were very few and I installed them from the downloaded zip files that I keep on a third, larger HDD.
