I'm getting in OK. Tofay's freebie is a set of "modern" christmas trees - there's a Base and a Supporter version, The Base seems to get three tree styles with more (and maybe more materials?) in the Supporter version.

Thanks for the data point... glad for those who can snag the stuff. Maybe whatever it is will correct over here in a day or two.

I already have way more holiday trees than I'm using, so I can't say I'm heartbroken over missing this one.

I'm struggling to see meaningful differences in the morphs in the better than Daz+ morph pack, they really look sort of samey samey - attractive, I guess, in the ever youthful way of many Daz female figures; but I'd have been more likely to go for a figure with textures.

I agree on the sameness. A lot of morph packs are similar. I look at them a couple times and ask, what's the difference?

Oh whew, not just me then.

Same here. I actually went to compare them more carefully, because I thought that maybe I'm skimming and not paying attention enough. They are different, but so little that it feels like I could as well push a few sliders on existing models to achieve that level of difference.

Yeah there's only so much you can do with a Christmas tree even if you change the species of tree that your using

Not so sure. One of the most wonderful memories my son and I had from my assignment in Utah was a Christmas Tree charity event in Salt Lake City in 1979. A huge hall full of Christmas trees decorated and sponsored by companies and organizations to raise money for a charity (can't remember what or who set this up). He was a toddler and was entranced by the decorations as much as I was. I have never seen anything like this since. Hundreds of trees. It took my breath away.

Not quite hundreds, but my family used to go to the downtown (Minneapolis) Dayton's holiday show every year. A whole floor full of animatronics set up in scenes  to tell a story. The whole Santa Bear thing was BIG, but there were various fairytales over the years, and the Polar Express, though towards the end it was just different scenes from Santa's workshop. And after that we'd go through the holiday floors, and there'd be all these sections with huge, differently themed trees (and of course all the ornaments were for sale, so there were tons of of sales displays around them. It was absolutely magical. I feel so bad for today's kids (including mine) that they'll never have that.

PBS did a cool documentary on it, now that it's gone:

I am trying to write a reply and this season is getting in the way. I think of what the holidays may have been like during the Depression and Dustbowl for my parents and how they tried their best to shower four kids with toys and stuff in the 1950s/60s. And the Christmas that was cancelled to pay a vet bill to save our cat who had his neck bit out by a neighbor's dog. Life can be tough, but we got over it. And we still had Rhubarb. Miracles can happen.

My mom has a child-size rocking chair that used to be her mother's; Grandma said she woke one Christmas and that with a packet of gum on its seat were her presents that year. She always sounded so grateful when she told that story. Their family hadn't had much. I wish I had thought to ask who made the rocker, because it doesn't look mass produced, but perhaps she didn't know.

I'm glad Rhubarb pulled through for you... how scary. Keeping family (in all its forms) alive and together is worth everything.

Rhubarb survived the Baldwin Hills Damn burst. He found us, muddy, bloody, starving, and finally my dad who hated cats caved in and fed him. And he moved in and ruled the roost over our dogs, malard duck, rabbits, hamsters, parakeets, goldfish... and whatever else showed up or was born. And he was a serious lover of prime roast beef raw. Stole our Sunday dinner that was breathing on the counter before it went into the oven. Dad found it on the floor with Rhubarb happily eating on it.

Quick run to the store for my dad.

Does anyone remember last year? My shopping cart is overflowing, and this will use up all my store credits, bringing my shopping spree for the year to an end…

Are there good deals today? I must be missing something, because I can't make any combination better than 84-86% off or so, and thats with 2 expensive buy-ins and before tokens/coupons (and I don't have any tokens) so this sale is pretty meh for me. I do have coupons but don't waste them this early in the month. Also anything under 92% off I don't even consider. I'd say historically your best bet is waiting until near the end of the month, that is when we usually see the best sales with very little necessary in the way of buy-ins. This is still very early in the sale. Pace yourself unless you really need something.

LOL I always boggle at people who think that animals have no personality and are just dumb creatures. TBH a lot of them have more personality than some humans I know.

Out of curiosity , was Rhubarb an identifiable breed or mix? Both for the sake of mental image, and because oddly enough I know someone else who has a cat by that name, and I'm kind of curious if it's a particular look that inspires it or it's just an odd coincidence. (The other Rhubarb is a Russian Blue.)

Rhubarb was a white and black long hair. Very big, was fixed when he arrived but opinionated. About the size of our cocker spaniel mix female. He also was a great godfather to a number of puppy litters. I see black and white cats on those cat music you tube music tracks and I just call them Rhubarbs. The name Rhubarb was actually from a book in the later 1940s about a cat who inherited a baseball team that my dad had read. I don't remember if it was true or fiction. But it fit the guy. I had a twin bed growing up, sometimes I even had a chance to sleep in it by myself. I was the dog/cat person in the family. And at 21, I became allergic to cats. With Simon and Charlie I have to take meds every day. They are worth it.

You reminded me that since last year and even the year before, I've bought a lot of items I haven't used yet. This year, I'll only buy things I need immediately, and I should stick to that principle even now.

I'll use 92% off as my new benchmark. Currently, with three punches, seven tokens, and a $10 discount off a $25 purchase, the White Christmas House Bundle is $3.99 (92% off), and some Su Yee clothes are only $1.36 (92% off). I've already deleted many of them.

So I have to think about stopping today, or continuing to invest at least $1.99 * 23 days = $45.77 in some unnecessary items, just to save a few dozen dollars on the last day...

Or maybe I should gamble that the biggest discount only appears before Christmas Eve, then I won't need to spend $45.77. Oh my god, DAZ...

Oh even cooler that it came from a book! I'll think of those cats as Rhubarbs, now, too. His memory lives on, even with a stranger who never had the pleasure of knowing him in the fur. <3

It's very well done. A word of caution to anyone buying this for commercial renders, however - Twin Reverb is a registered trademark of Fender. I hate editorial licenses, but this is one situation where there really should be one. I think they may also have the design of their amps protected under trade dress IPs, and I knew that was a Twin Reverb within a split second of seeing the first promo on a phone screen.

Ah bummer, broke my streak. Today's nice list is something I picked up at the PA sale... and haven't even used yet.

Also bummer - getting a 403 error trying to access 3dshards for their adevent calendar. I emailed them a heads up (because I would want to know if it was my site!) with the info that it's happening across multiple browsers (chrome, firefox, brave) and devices (win11 & iOS) and that some browsers would let me to the main site but not any links. I was told "The 403 server error happens when some safety system, or firewall blocking a special action on the site. We have cyber guardian service by Cloudflare. Yesterday morning their status was off (i even couldn`t reach our dashboard) so maybe the security things had been changed. I just can tell,it not our side, the error. Have a great day!"

I think based on this they're saying it's my router (? they're based in Hungary IIRC so there's obviously a translation thing going on) but I tried on my cellular-data tablet and it's not working there, either. Which if I understand things rules out the router issue.

Now, admittedly I'm not the most tech savvy when it comes to networking. The ex- wouldn't let me touch any of it, so it's been a trial by fire as issues arise since I got free. It might be me and I just don't understand why.

Anyone else having problems, or is it truly on my end?

It wasn't on your end, I couldn't get in either (logging in from Germany). Their token system just didn't work correctly. Just so's you can stop worrying ;-)

Can someone explain to me (uh, again? Sorry!) how that works? How you stack to get 92%? After I've gone back a few pages and a few of you here have mentioned that's the % you aim for.

It's like, sale of like 50-60%, plus using eight tokens, plus using a coupon code, and being a member or something?

The token thing I've already found confusing. EG I had a cart that was around $80, then with eight tokens, it came to... $60. Not sure how the maths on that goes. The "extra" 45% applies at what stage? Because no matter how I slice it, it doesn't seem to make sense.
If something is 50% off, and you use 8 tokens, obviously you're not getting 95% off (50 + 45), that would not be the logical way for a business to do it.
But it's also not 50% off, then 45% off what's left (or how I read "EXTRA") - eg cut it in half (50%) then cut the subtotal pretty much in half (extra 45% slash) again.

It's 45% off what's left or, as I suspect is the case here, 30% off what's left. You only get 45% off Daz's products (Daz Originals and Daz Plus). Everything else is sold by a vendor (usually an individual but sometimes a studio), and those products are 30% off. Daz is a is more like a marketplace than a store. They can offer 45% off their own products, but if they did that off other products too then they probably wouldn't get a cut from those at all.

Ah! 30% off PA stuff makes sense then. I didn't realise it was only DO and D+.
    Thanks kindly for explaining that!

Thank you!!! It was still puzzling me how this could possibly be an only me issue when it would let me get to the first page (on some browsers/devices) but not anything beyond that, including account info.

I'd care beyond puzzlement except I'm just done with that site entirely based on my email interactions (including ones after I wrote that post that I'm not going to spend energy going into). Any pleasure I'd get over the freebies would be tainted, and I'm certainly not interested in supporting them financially. I hope others can get in and enjoy them. They do have some nice stuff. It's just no longer worth it to me.

60% off* Featured Artist Stores and 75% off* Legacy Featured Artist Stores when you buy any Debut New Release

Extra 30% off up to 20 with any 2 Holidaz item ,Debut, or Still New Releases

    3 Punch Cards Premier Members:extra 40% off
    7 Token 29% off(I used seven yesterday)

    =88% off

and Coupon $10.00 Off of $25 Worth of Daz items(I didn't buy too much to maximize the discount.)

    Approximately 92% off

I hate doing these calculations. Basically, I just add items to my cart according to the day's rules and see if there's a discount of 85% or more. If there is, I add tokens and coupons to see if there's a discount of 90% or more.

Fortunately, we can now give the math problem to AI and let it calculate the maximum discount.

I've been approaching it in stages.

Pass 1 - carefully find the freebies, checkout.

Pass 2 - build a dummy cart with all the buy-ins, 8 tokens, any daily coupons. Add some test items from each category. I usually start with Legacy Featured Artist, filter for bundles only, and add a PA bundle and a Daz Original bundle to get a fast ballpark of the maximum discounts available. (I use bundles for cart testing because they're less likely to hit floor price.)

Pass 3 - if the dummy cart looks promising, do a sanity check to see if there's any items I'm actually seriously interested in, and maybe test some cheaper items and items from other categories. Dump the dummy cart (clears applied tokens). Now build a real cart, or pick out a single item for punches.

Personally not a fan of Premier but the whole store seems to be calibrated for Premier members who wish to bulk out their library. If you're planning to shop kinda heavy this month, definitely run the math (or poke an ai to help calculate) because a single month's sub will probably pay for itself.

Discount math is multiplication. Example for an offer like "75% off Legacy Featured Artist Stores when you buy any Debut New Release" for a hypothetical $20 item that's not Daz Original:

    $20 * .25 (75% off) = $5
    $5 * .7 (30% off from tokens) = $3.50
    $3.50 * .7 (30% off from carting two buy-in items for today's offer) = $2.45
    $2.45 * .9 (10% off from wishlist coupon if the item qualifies) = $2.21
    $2.21 * .9 (10% whole cart bonus offer today if you're Premier) = $1.98
    $1.98 * .6 (40% off for Premier with three punches) = $1.19

but the price in the cart is actually $1.88 because the floor price is $3 which eats all the excess discount except tokens and coupon codes, so:

    $3 * .7 (30% off the $3 floor price from tokens) = $2.10
    $2.10 * .9 (10% off from wishlist coupon if the item qualifies) = $1.88

Same math for Daz Originals but the token discount is 45% rather than 30%. You can see why it's sometimes better to buy bundles since they avoid getting capped by the floor price.

There's one more big caveat: gift cards. If you were Premier and today you bought a 10% gift card first (since Premier gets 10% off their cart with no single-use coupon code needed) for, say, $100 dollars, you'd have $100 / .9 = $111.11 of store credit to spend, which means you could stretch your buying power by $11.11 via a gift card. Daz benefits because they get your money today, you benefit because you can choose when to spend or bank that extra credit.

do a sanity check to see if there's any items I'm actually seriously interested in,

    That one's my step 2.

    1. Get the freebies

    2. Go to the 'featured artists' section, hit the 'view all' button, and check the "wishlisted" button. Scroll through to see if there's anything that makes my eyes light with hope and possibility. Usually go "eh, stuff I want, but not under these circumstances" and not bother with a cart

    3. Pick something sufficient to keep up my punches, usually QG or Outlet but maybe the Better than Daz or Holidaz deal

I'm hoping that 2nd step will turn aorund sometime in the sale... that one's probably a me-problem, so it might not. I really cleaned house (and then some) at the PA sale, so there's not a lot to really get my hopes up anymore. Still, it'd be nice to get a slam dunk of some nice stuff with my monthly coupons at some point.

Looking forward to the QG turnover tomorrow, though! I had to dip into my wishlisted Outlet items today as I had second thoughts about a few of the QGs that I'd intended to carry me through the week. Time for a refresh!

I'm actually happy with it being a low key, low pressure sale. I'm with you about the step two and "not under these circumstances" approach, and with the amount of money I spent during the PA sale and even Daz Festival, I'm not quick to build large carts unless some crazy good deal comes about with items I really want, so I'm actually happy that I don't feel pressured by it.

With the daily PA freebies, advent calendar and nice list items (I've been lucky as so far, I didn't own a single item from the nice list, so it's a lot of added value for me), and some good offers in daily deals and better than Daz+ (not interested in most of the items, but when I find something I like, the price feels really good), it's a nice sale. Maybe not "exciting" but definitely "joyful" for me.

And yes, looking forward to QG turnover as well. I really do like OS/QG setup and I hope Daz keeps it as it's such an added value to the membership. I've been saving up my QG items throughout the week in case I needed something for punches, and today I'm getting the few that I didn't get earlier. Quick Grab just makes Mondays better, doesn't it?

QG certainly does. :) My days don't really have much to distinguish one from another as far as the passage of time goes... which isn't bad, as I do love my days just as they are. But still, it's nice to have a little something in particular to look forward to.

Definitely with you on the benefits of it being non-manic. The holidays are energy intensive enough on their own... nice to not add to that.

  • Regarding tokens, there is a glitch with token expirations with my cart this morning, or perhaps I haven't noticed before.

Today is Dec. 7.  The red text at the bottom states that there are tokens expiring in 4 days, 14 hours, minutes, seconds, blah blah.  The pop up info button next to the token count states that I have tokens expiring on Dec. 13 and Dec. 14.

Which count should I actually consider as accurate?

In my experience, the red text is more helpful than the popup. I've lost tokens before when going by the popup deadline, so I always use the red text now. I check that deadline quickly when I make a cart to know when I need to use my tokens and only use the popup to tell me how many tokens i need to use to avoid losing them.

well, missed checking out yesterday and now cleared my cart. I now have 2 punches. Will a purchase today give me 3 again or will it just bounce down until I buy 3 in a row again?
