When I saw the headline, I was confused. Like... what on earth are micro-blends?
Today's nice list, though -- wow!!! It just so happened I needed a Roman soldier outfit for a costume ball scene. That'll do!!
I know, right?
I don't really have a need for that type of outfit right now, but I might at some point, and I can certainly use the bits and pieces. Another case of 'What? You're giving that to me for free?' This sale is treating me very well so far.
So far, Santa has only given me one Nice List freebie I haven't already bought. (: But I got the Military Tunnel from the advent calendar today, which was nice. https://www.daz3d.com/military-tunnel
I'm imagining "Micro-Blends" to be sliders with a limit of +- 0.25 instead of 1, heheh
Well, that's fab. I buy everything Roman. Justifies punches. That's $35.99 list and $0 today. Was on my original wishlist for months. G9! Luthbell! Sub-D 5 possible. Will bring my computer to its knees. I'll pass on the micron-brends, though. It's forbidden.
I already owned the Luthbel Gladiator
it's actually not as heavy as some of his other outfits and it's not the subdivision BTW
I solved this with the Lich Lord, it's all the extra texture channels
ditch everything but albedo, normal and cutout opacity and you will be fine
It did make viewport performances better when I dialed down the SubD viewport of all the Barbarian Classic Outfit items from their original values (equal to the Render SubD level, so some of them loaded with a viewport SubD level of 4
) to the value of 1.
I don't understand why he decided to have such high values for the Viewport SubD level of so many items: the details are here while rendering but I don't really need to have them while I'm creating a scene.
Well, I did a quick test render. Looks great except for the horse-hair plume on the helm. Other than the hairs are flat and more like grass. There's an inch gap in the front and it's floating. Have to move it down. But it does move down. So there's that. I suppose the guy doesn't really need a helmet. Still, that's minor compared to other problems you sometimes get. Best item of the sale. Thanks, Daz.
i much prefer the DAZ+ releases as they usually are, two at a time on Friday and Tuesday, with the added discount to this current sale release schedule. Yeah, $1.49 is priced lower, but every other day. Guess it works to qualify for the daily buy something over a dollar though. In between you can use low cost QG or outlet item, or maybe the $2.99 item.
Heh, I was thinking something more pigment-related, a utility for shaders or something, though I wasn't exactly sure how that would work or what it had to do with the artisticly posed greyscale figure used as an accompanying image.
it must be great in order to brend, blend, and bend, all in one product.
with those puncharcards it says up to 40% off your cart, and I have 8 tokens, a DAZ DO coupon for $10 off, and I cannot find anything DO I want to purchase. Pretty sad, that is.
You must own everything that interests you already.
yes, and a ton of stuff that doesn't matter. But here I am, still checking out the new and old stuff. Compulsion, maybe that is.
Addiction
That makes more sense! :) I was thinking of sliders as blendshapes.. too much Blender recently!
Getting somewhat upset with the "On the Nice List".
Its all been really good items... and so far, I already owned almost every single one...
Welcome to the club
Would be cool if we had the option between two possibilities, like the advent calendar. So far I already bought all but one of the Nice List offers
Will today's discounts be the lowest prices?
Does anyone remember last year? My shopping cart is overflowing, and this will use up all my store credits, bringing my shopping spree for the year to an end…
Nobody can predict that - I wish we could!
It depends a little on what you're shopping for, I guess. For example, Daz Original and Daz+ items aren't of much interest to me as I've already picked up many of the products in those categories that I like. I've been in a Published Artist shopping spell for a while now, so I tend to decide whether to build a cart or not based on the sales availability and prices of those. All I can say is that the last couple of months had better prices on PA items, and while I don't have a crystal ball, I imagine there will be at least 1 weekend before the end of the year when the selection of sale items will include many more PAs than we have today. If you have a particular wishlist of items that are great prices today, they may not get much better before the end of the year. On the otherhand, if you've things in your wishlist that aren't on sale today that you'd like more than things in your cart, there's a good chance those that haven't been released in the past 6-9 months will be on sale at some point before the holiday season ends.
AsuCafe Another thing to consider when you build a large cart and you are juggling money is look at each item's price history chart and see how often it goes on sale, and if today is the best sale price it has had, or if there is a history of lower prices. A few items I have looked at seem to find their way into the Quick Grab offerings from their price history. I have been moving new and older items in and out, along with my tokens for a bit to see what I can live with.
I judge whether it's worthwhile based on the discount percentage. I consider a 90% off discount (which is today)(Use all discount methods) to be a very low price. Last year, there were several discounts of over 95%. However, based on my observation, DAZ seems to be trying to avoid such low discounts this year. Many promotions this year are not as good as last year's, which may be due to the presence of outlet stores.
Today, some of my favorite items are at great prices, and of course, there are many more I like that haven't yet participated in this discount party. If I want to continue participating, I'll need to prepare a participation fee of at least 1.99 x 24...
Because I spent too much last year, I'm trying my best to avoid being led by the rules this year...
Ah bummer, broke my streak. Today's nice list is something I picked up at the PA sale... and haven't even used yet.
Also bummer - getting a 403 error trying to access 3dshards for their adevent calendar. I emailed them a heads up (because I would want to know if it was my site!) with the info that it's happening across multiple browsers (chrome, firefox, brave) and devices (win11 & iOS) and that some browsers would let me to the main site but not any links. I was told "The 403 server error happens when some safety system, or firewall blocking a special action on the site. We have cyber guardian service by Cloudflare. Yesterday morning their status was off (i even couldn`t reach our dashboard) so maybe the security things had been changed. I just can tell,it not our side, the error. Have a great day!"
I think based on this they're saying it's my router (? they're based in Hungary IIRC so there's obviously a translation thing going on) but I tried on my cellular-data tablet and it's not working there, either. Which if I understand things rules out the router issue.
Now, admittedly I'm not the most tech savvy when it comes to networking. The ex- wouldn't let me touch any of it, so it's been a trial by fire as issues arise since I got free. It might be me and I just don't understand why.
Anyone else having problems, or is it truly on my end?
403 is a forbidden code. When you connect to a website, a couple things might happen.
The first is an authentication for secure traffic (HTTPS). You'll exchange credentials - usually certificates (you have these automatically installed on your system and in your browser) - and each party will use those to verify that the other is who they say they are. At that point, either side can reject the connection. In that instance, it can be on your end if you have something configured incorrectly (but very unlikely to be on your end). More commonly, you'll see an authentication error when the website you're conencting to has left their certificates lapse or when there's an issue with one of the downstream systems that validates certificates.
The second part that can happen is an authorisation error. In short, some websites (their data servers) will have an additional step where only users with the appropriate permissions can load data. When that fails, you get a 403 error. That's what's happening to you and it's an error code returned from the website's data server. Where it's happening is anyone's guess - that's on their end. Whether there's an escalatation process to authenitcate using your account between 3DShards and whatever Cloudflare magic they have setup, a authentication process between 3DShards and Cloudflare itself or some other thing that's happening on the 3DShards backend, who knows what the issue is. It could be a 3DShards issue, though, so I'd ever-so-mildly disagree with what you were told - it's just that it's more likely to be a Cloudflare issue. For example, maybe they reject authorisation based on recent, similar-looking traffic that was blocked for whatever security reason. What are your neighbours up to?
Thank you for the detailed explanation -- you rock. <3
They said they couldn't replicate it on their end, so it must be on mine. My initial thought was "well, you've got admin priviliges to the site, so how are you testing this?"
Also included was that they were currently working on their website, which does make me wonder if they did something over there. Esepcially since some of the browsers will let me onto the main page and just not anything else, including my account info.
Ah well, whatever. Their advent calender items are often quite nice, but it's not worth beating my head against anything trying to get them. And if I'm right and it's them, they're going to notice what they told me is wrong when nobody so much as downloads the freebie today.
Catch-up sales for new items, at least, are usually not as good as first day offers in my recent experience.
I'm getting in OK. Tofay's freebie is a set of "modern" christmas trees - there's a Base and a Supporter version, The Base seems to get three tree styles with more (and maybe more materials?) in the Supporter version.
I'm struggling to see meaningful differences in the morphs in the better than Daz+ morph pack, they really look sort of samey samey - attractive, I guess, in the ever youthful way of many Daz female figures; but I'd have been more likely to go for a figure with textures.
I agree on the sameness. A lot of morph packs are similar. I look at them a couple times and ask, what's the difference?
Oh whew, not just me then.
