    @V3Digitimes,

Why do you keep creating useful products that are so good!!   :)

I very rarely have bought a Debut New Release item in the DAZ3D store, but when I saw Write Anywhere Plus Advanced LIE and Aging Tools yesterday in Debut New Releases, I read the store page and watched your video.  I had to have it and now do.  I haven’t installed it yet but plan to test drive it soon!

@jjoyner : That’s such a wonderful thing to read, thank you! Right now most of my time goes into updating everything for DS 2025, but I’ll try not to stop creating along the way. Thanks for the support!

As you are now an expert on decals, maybe stains for clothing, e.g. dried spilled coffee, blood, dirt, etc?

That’s a cool idea! For now I really have to focus on updating all my products for DS 2025, otherwise I’d never get to the end of it. But I’ll keep the suggestion in mind!

This might be a silly question.

The product allows me to place texts on virtually any surface and also some included images (the heads).

Can I use my own images and if so, can they have colours?

I want to place logos on the side of a M113 vehicle and some gothic writing with drawings on the pages of a book.

I must say that the text feature alone is very tempting.

Yes you can place your own images, and yes they can have colors (still Iray only):
    - Create your decal node as you would do to write a text.
    - Select the decal node and in the surfaces editor, select the "Front" surface.
    - In the "Base Color" slot, load your colored image map (instead of the "Front" default pink image map).
    - In the Cutout Opacity slot, load the "opacity" of your image (instead of the default white map): here for this step, you must go either on photoshop (paid) or on Gimp for instance (Gimp is free - but you can use any software), and, using your initial image as a reference, create a new image of the same size which is : black where you don't want to see your image = your pattern = your drawing, white were you want to see it. For instance if you have a centered disk shape sticker as an image, the opacity map will be black on the borders (where there is no sticker), with a white disk of the size of the sticker (where you want to see the color pattern, the color being taken from the Base Color Map).

Note: you cannot rely on the transparency of a Base Color PNG file alone, you really need a separate black and white opacity map

Whenever you try, let me know if you have any issue with the process, and I'll be here to help.

Thank you for the elaborate answer.

So it works with both text and pictures. Sweet.

    I will buy it.

Now the only problem is to find time to work with Daz and to play with this new addition.

Wonderful ! If you have questions on the process, just come here !

  • Is there a way to set margins, or to prevent text disappearing on the sides when a sentence is too long?

No, not automatically, and it would be difficult since not all fonts take the same horizontal space, so I’m not sure I would be able to evaluate this space correctly.

When you write a text with the interface, you have a first preview “inside the interface” which allows you to use the Enter key whenever you want to go to a new line, and you can also use the object preview if you prefer to see directly how it looks in the scene.

To say it briefly: write as you would do on paper. When your hand reaches the end of the line, you don’t keep writing on the table, you just go to a new line instead. Well, this is exactly the same.

The different solutions you have for very long lines or sentences are:

    1. Manual line breaks: when you type in the UI, use Enter to control margins and wrapping. → This is the best way to control margins and wrapping for long sentences or paragraphs.

    2. Scale down the text size: shrink the font so the text fits the surface. → This is useful if you want to keep a long sentence on a single line.

    3. Use several decals: you can place decals one after the other (left/right, up/down, even with rotations or overlaps if you want). → This gives you the most flexibility for complex layouts.

I hope I answered your question. As a non-native English speaker, let me know if something is unclear.

edit : and if, in the preview, the text is a single line, but not on the object, then simply lower the scale of the decal node (which has a built-in geometry margin)

    Got it.

Perhaps, in an update, you could add an option for the preview background to be e.g. white so that the text can be read if the text colour is black. I know one can use the Iray Preview to see it, but it would be nice to see it on the panel itself.

Edit: Actually, write the text and then change the text colour. Ignore my suggestion.

"Actually, write the text and then change the text colour."..... Exactly, that's what I was going to suggest !

You're welcome. Sadly, the lack of beta testers cost me a lot of time, because not only I have to test on my own tons of starting generations and shaders or other configurations depending on the product, but I also have to do it on two Daz Studio versions, with 3 possible interface styles (native Daz Studio styles, for interface products). For now I have the feeling that I'm ready to submit "Texture Booster and Shader Converter" (aka Texture Booster), "Ultimate Iray Skin Manager" and "Ultimate PBRSkin Manager". I don't submit them yet because they are linked to my next utility (which can be called from those products), that I'm trying to finish ASAP.

  • My curiosity overcame me and I bought this yesterday. Now there is a host of things I can't figure out. :-)

That's why there is a comprehensive manual :)

@rollamo : thanks for the support. Any question, you have the documentation, the video and you can also simply come here !
@DoctorJellyBean : Ah, I was astonished, you had not mentioned the documentation yet, whereas I know that it's what you prefer in my products XD.

  • Could I please ask for a possible update, that the WRITE YOUR TEXT input box is at least the same width as the PREVIEW TEXT box. It would be so much easier to see where lines have to be manually split to fit the width.

  • V3DigitimesV3Digitimes Posts: 3,365

I don't understand your request. But if you mean scaling the width of the "write your text area", it would be super difficult I guess. Why?

    - first technically, the width of this widget may also depend on the parent widget width... Plus I don't know if the linewrapmode works and if applies to lines or words...
    - Then, practically, the "variable available width" of this text area would depend on the real physical horizontal size of the font family with the specified style for your font and size for this font. This would have to be recalculated at each change, and I have absolutely no clue how to calculate it even once...
So for now, if I understood well what you wanted, I both don't know if it is possible and if yes, how I could caculate the optimal "physical" width.
On my side I never had any issue when using the enter key to go to the line, but maybe it is because it works a bit the same in the classical photoshop writing area and I got used to do it. The idea is to cut "where you feel" using enter, if it is not the right place, you easily see where the right place is after previewing once (in preview or on object)...
I could investigate, but no clear idea where I could begin...

I will provide an example soon.

  • V3DigitimesV3Digitimes Posts: 3,365

Perfect, I'll then see what I can do.

Not to worry about the example, I can work with it.

I finally have a render. It uses both this and the Speech Bubbles Generator Pro products.

Gallery image links expire, you need to attach it or link to the gallery page rather than directly to the image.

It used to be relatively simple. Fixed.

I just saw the notification. Wonderful! Thanks a lot for sharing! Well this is a very sad story you show here... I hope Eleanor will soon feel better...
Glad to see you can work with it, I was pretty clueless how I could act to make things better...
    Have a great day!
