@Ivy - I am genuinely happy that helped you like it did!
Yes, your tip was very helpful. I don;t why I never thought to try uber shaders . I guess like you said. " Sometimes all you need is someone to point you in the right direction." thanks for doing that.
I would really like, (and I've seen a lot of people asking for) tips on using photoshop brushes ( especially Ron's )
I would like to be able to use ron's brushes in GIMP a free version of Photoshop.
Heck I would like to learn how to use GIMP giggles
I have for 12 years used Paint Shop Pro9 and with my new laptop (I just got the other day) it has no disk part so I can not put it in here so had to go with GIMP as I Do not have the funds to buy Photoshop.
I am so loving the quick tips but like Destinygarden said I would like some in-depth tips or tutorials sorta on 3 Delight and Iray as I stumble around with both of them.
I am going to ask the question right now that I know everyone wants to ask but is too afraid to ask:
Do you make good money being a full time PA, if so how decent is the money??

Place Ron's Brushes into the Plug-ins folder of GIMP. That is all there is to it and they work nicely. When it comes time to changes brushes, select the folder they are in from the menu.

Gimp has a Brushes folder which is where I put them. Not too many, though, or Gimp has the same problem as Photoshop and has issues loading. I store all of my brushes from everywhere in a download folder that I created with all of my brushes categorized and sorted. Any time I need brushes, I just copy it from it's storage spot and copy it over to the Brushes folder. I can just delete them from the Brushes folder when I'm done since I copied them, no need to put them back.

Hmmm...I thought in the past 5 years with all this free software you have to be stealing SW for social standing in some cliques and not because you just have to have AutoDesk Maya. As it turns I I am one of the rare people that has lost several expensive licenses bought legitimately that the SW creators refused to reissue me new licenses for. Needless to say, I am not a fan of Adobe, VMWare, or Digital River and their shabby bookkeeping of my past product registrations. Lucky for me it is easy to avoid those businesses now.

Weird. Adobe lost my license several years ago. I had owned Photoshop from its very first version back in the day on my Macintosh, then had it on the PC for several years more. I made do for years with my old version, then was able to change to academic, but soon I'll have to change back to non-academic. Still irritated over that stupidity. (I even had the disks and serial numbers, but they couldn't find them on my account and therefore, wouldn't let me upgrade.) I hate Gimp, or I'd switch. Still makes me wonder how Adobe can lose software licenses from one's account.

Oh, I still have the Adobe Photoshop disk that I bought but I don't have the manual that is thicker the all the volumes The Lord of the Rings that had the serial number glued inside and my registration? Tossed last time they upgraded their in-house bookkeeping I guess. I knew where the manual was but the people that happened on it tossed it or took it to the Bröckihaus not long after I moved out & they moved in.
Oh ye gods .. what an atrocious piece of software! Having been, in my sordid past, system software, tech support, analyst programmer and programmer can I just say that, had I written that software I would have kicked myself around the block! On the upside, you have a good backup policy (apart from the uninstall part ...).
Definitely makes sense to stay away from these supposed one click solutions. Redundant file save/backups in multiple locations, 100 % with you there.
And always test your backups a couple of times a year to make sure that you're getting what you expect and that the data really is recoverable. One of the outfits I had some correspondance with years ago had the corporate policy of restoring the complete backup to a test area at least once a quarter; any backup process not verified in this manner was not accepted as a proper backup.
It is also a good idea to check logs periodically; I've seen too many instances of critical files not being copied because they were busy or permissions were not correct. (I spent half my time the last 10 years of my DP career as backup/recovery specialist, a truly thankless job).

Wasn't a B&R specialist (despite writing backup/recovery scripts for DR purposes on our Sun kit), but backups (and testing) were a pet hobby-horse of mine. We did DR trials twice a year, and with the very good people at HP had a very, very slick system going! :) Full backups every night, data spun off to tape (usually as part of the backup), and tapes taken to a remote location. It annoyed the heck out of me, almost to the 'toys out of the pram' level, when with a new project, that had backup/recovery testing as part of plan before going live, the PM allowed the time allocated for that to be used for something else.

There is a brush-managment plugin for GIMP that lets you dynamically move brushes in and out of the correct folder. Despite not really being that good with this sort of stuff I have a shed-load of brushes and GIMP ended up choking on them. Using the plugin means that, with a little effort, I can select the brushes I wnat at teh timeand have them available, and have GIMP start!!!

I have to load up my linux pc and open gimp to see where I put it exactly. Also want to see if my gimp folder on the pc and mac are the same. I am just enjoying the cool air at the moment so keeping all computers off. I was dehydrating with the overheating of my apartment.
Yes, whether it is adobe or gimp, too many brushes on weaker machines will choke. So I place the different brushes of Ron's into folders that I can switch to as needed.
Plugins for Adobe and Brushes for Gimp. There is a readme that comes with his brushes and pdf instructions too.

Screen recording with Quicktime Pro $30 from the apple store. Save it as a movie file. Edit with iMovie already on your mac or available with iLife from the apple store. Screen captures available with the middle button using a Logitech mouse. Or Command + Shift + 3 or Command + Shift + 4 for capturing full screen or just a window. Saves as png on your desktop. Import into your movie editor, iMovie for instance. Add your voice over narration giving us your instructions. Make sure the audio doesn't go into the red ... guess about level 6 is good. Your mic is fine for this. Intercut your video footage of you talking as you have been doing in your other clips. Your current camera is fine for this. Your lighting is mostly good. Render your edited movie and export to Youtube as you have been doing.

There are two locations...one is in your 'account' and the other is system wide, in the main GIMP brushes folder. Or if you want, you can assign any folder for GIMP to look in...

Not too many, though, or Gimp has the same problem as Photoshop and has issues loading.
Actually this is a Gimp problem, not Photoshop. I have hundreds of brushes loaded in Photoshop (CS 5.5) along with multiple addons like Filter Forge and Nik and it loads just fine. With it running off of an SSD (Samsung m.2) Photoshop loads almost instantly. Almost as fast as notepad or calc. Note: it loaded fine on a platter drive also but it did take a couple minutes to load.

Good to know we are useful after all. :)
I second that call for using photoshop brushes I have both Paintshop Pro XI and Photoshop.
Also is it possible to do another version of the Mirror tutorial for 3Delight?
