Non-complaint:  The cat is back.  There's a feral yellow cat that has been living in the storm drain area on the other side of the yard visible from my kitchen window.  It's been there for years.  In fact I think it is the same yellow cat that I helped through a tough winter several years ago.  If so, the cat must now be around 7 or 8 years old.  But after that winter where it would sleep under my little porch despite my attempts to provide an electrically heated shelter for it on the porch, it disappeared.  I then noticed a yellow cat over in the creek-like storm drain area among the weeds now and then.  A few times it could be seen with a litter of kittens following her roamings.  Every day there's a lady (I call her the cat lady) who walks by the storm drain on her way to/from work at the local grocery store.  Every day she leaves a can of cat food on the sidewalk.  And the cat expects it and comes out of the weeds and rubs around her legs before eating.  Last fall, a couple of times, I noticed the cat had a white bandage or something wrapping the last 1/3 of its tail. Then I stopped seeing the cat for a while and assumed it had succumbed to weather or age or accident.  But today about noon, as the lady was walking home from her part-time shift at the store, the cat again came out but was followed by a slightly smaller scruffy grey cat.  Perhaps a new mate or one of her kitts?  Or perhaps they are both litter survivers and she is gone.  Life moves on.indecision

complaint: It's not safe to leave the house. And I have had conversations with Teen Kiddo that no parent should ever have to have with their kid.

non-complaint: Little Dude's been having decently regulated days. So I have that going for me. And being in the house is still safe in my part of town, for now at least. And I have the luxury of keeping us all inside.

I have been keeping your family and all your neighbors in my thoughts for the past weeks. Things here are quiet for now, but continuing.

My medical issue has been identified and more appointments will be upcoming, but NOT for cancer. I am so relieved. I also do not have jury duty and got a year's grace from it. Again, relieved. So I can drive my flatmate to his dental appointment this afternoon. My bruises are fading on my face, although it is still swollen and I can almost eat solid food again. Brushing is a 'choose your own adventure' experience. One wrong move and my nerves go crazy.

So glad that you're healing, and your diagnosis is better than it could hve been. I hope your upcoming appointments give you some solid steps forward. Sorry your tooth stuff is still giving you grief, though. That sucks.

And than you for your thoughts. <3

Mom went out to get groceries for her household and mine at 4 AM this morning, to reduce risk factors and also be one less shopper between others and their ability to get home swiftly. So we're stocked for another week.

Big ol' cold snap incoming. Highs this weekend are set for the single digits last I looked. Maybe that'll buy us a bit of a reprieve.

Speaking of cold snaps:  13F (-10.5C) here this morning.  Snowed last night.  Trees are frosted again, smiley ground is covered again.  Main road is brown sugared again, despite being plowed periodically.  Town park pavilions are sparkling with icy snow frosting in the morning sun.smiley

Non-complaint:  I made six salmon patties using the accidentally reheated, reshaped, can of salmon.  Had one for supper last night.  Had a half of one for breakfast this morning.  Haven't died yet.yes

Complaint:  Snow is forecast for a week, with a bump above freezing in the middle of that period, so that means ice.frown

Non-complaint:  Got bananas.  Refrigerator is full.  Got ham, chicken breast, salmon, Honeycrisp apples, a selection of cheeses, eggs, salad greens, milk, and orange juice (frozen, but it will do).  With that and cabinets full of various canned veggies I'll survive the week.yes  Gonna make up a batch of sweet potato powder today.  Mmmm... mashed sweet potato with butter & brown sugar on top.heart  And I've got a new bag of chocolate chips to make cookies with.  Wheee...smiley

Complaint:  Still have a big box containing my old printer sitting in my livingroom/office/lab.  I may have to turn it into a table or workbench, or throw a big pillow on it and call it a couch.frown

Complaint:  I have a nice fleece lined sheepskin jacket that I bought about 30 years ago, before my world fell apart, that I wore exactly once about the time I started I getting heavier in the wrong places, and hasn't been used since (must'a shrunkblush)  It's still in perfect, unsoiled, undried out, condition.  Looks brand new, feels brand new, smells brand new (I take care of my toys).  I've lost a lot of weight, and I look at it once in a while and try it on, but it's still about 20 pounds too small.sad

Non-complaint:  Yesterday while web browsing I was presented with an ad for that exact coat.  Back in the day, it was a very nice coat (Schott B6 Sheepskin) but it wasn't particularly expensive, just a couple hundred dollars when I bought it.  Now it retails at the Schott site for $1500.surprise  Are sheep on the endangered list?indecision  Perhaps my drugstore could trade me a year of Xarleto for my jacket.frown  When you realize that the light at the end of the tunnel actually is a train, your priorities change.

Well our winter in Denver has been in the 40s to 60s. Equal to a Central Coast of California winter. And dry. Very dry. Not good. We did have a spot of snow that was a one day event. Playoffs between the Broncos and Bills should be in the 40s this weekend in Denver. On the positive side, my Xcel Bill for Electric and Gas was $100.03 for the past month. Let's hear it for wind/solar power investment and warm temps in winter!

Complaint:  Making cookies again is going to have to wait for a while.  Cold weather/pressure/humidity/age/diet seems to be aggravating my arthritis in my hands, wrists & elbows.  No stirring heavy dough today.sad

Non-complaint:  Amazon shipment due today.  Yay!smiley  Porch swept clean of snow for the postman.

Complaint:  Yesterday I received what was most probably a scam, phishing email advising that a recent video subscription/rental via Amazon did not go through.  They wanted me to "Click Here" to login to my account.indecision  Uh-uh, no-no, not the thing to do.  Much better to go directly to the official site via my normal path.  I did, and nothing seems amiss.yes  Then I went back and looked carefully at the "Click Here" address links and yep, seems to be a bogus whacko address of a scamster.  Like cities, the Internet can be a sketchy place.  Don't walk down dark alleys.enlightened

I report scams like that, which usually have the PayPal logo and infer that your account is being charged or tried to charge, to the official PayPal email: [email protected].  At least it puts the scammer on their radar.

@DanaTA  Yeah, I thought about that but I'd already deleted the message.  Should'a done it!sad

Non-complaint:  Something I hadn't thought about in years, but I just watched a cop show YouTube clip about a guy who stole a carton of cigarettes from a convenience store because they wouldn't sell it to him without an ID, so he grabbed the carton and ran but left behind a $100 bill.  Surely that was over payment, I thought...  Then I looked up the price of a carton(10 packs of 20) of Marlboro cigarettes in NY State and it's between $110 and $140.surprise  Single packs are about $14.50.  I had a 1 pack a day habit for large sections of my adult life starting when cigarettes were a quarter ($0.25) per pack in the late '60s.blush  Today, a one pack a day habit at $14.50 per pack would be $435 per month.crying  Not sorry I quit 25 years ago.yes

Some people are desperate:  I went back and finished the YouTube clip mentioned above.  The guy must have been desperate because immediately after stealing the carton of cigarettes he hijacked a business jet at the local airport and faced a standoff with police blocking take-off.  Just had to have those cigarettes though.laugh

I finally got my premier payment to go through.  But they changed all the bundles options.  Now to decide which one I want, but got to get on my computer first.

...yeah I remember when they were a quarter a pack and a carton was something like 2$

    110$ a carton that's more than half a month's grocery allotment.

Glad I quit when I returned from Germany in the 70s.  Bought a pack of American cigarettes after I got back home.  Smoked about one and a half "sticks" before I stubbed out the second one and tossed the rest of the pack out as they tasted terrible in comparison to what I got "across the pond".

I remember way back when a couple of friends said that "When they go up to $1/pack, I'll quit!"  Unfortunately for them they didn't.  Not at $!, not at $2, not at $5!  Lost track of those people but I bet they kept going much longer than that.

I remember when I thought that if gas went above $2 I would be upset.  For some reason, I stopped driving and gave up my license.
I hope I can get inside before Jeopardy starts.  I'm very close to home.

...I still remember when gas was 0.28⁹ a gallon at the old Cities Service a couple blocks away..  When it went up to 50¢ in the 70s, we thought it was "robbery".

Of course many of the cars we had back then were lucky to get 15 MPG on a good day.

Well, maybe not.indecision  My mother was a local politician.  She smoked heavily her whole adult life.  She fought against laws that restricted cigarette smoking in restaurants & other public places.  She died in '92 at age 64 from smoking related causes.sad  Price of cigarettes in '92... $1.79/pack.   I remember riding in the car my whole childhood with her, I got in the habit of always lowering the window a bit to get some air.  The house woodwork and wall paper was stained with smoke.  Big ashtrays overflowed throughout the house.  Nasty, nasty habit.cheeky  Almost as bad as untidy gum chewers.angry  Yet, there was a period when I was smoking two cigarettes during a three minute break standing outside the building where I worked, in the winter, each hour.  I'd power toke them while I mentally examined my current software problem.  Then I'd stuff the butts into my pockets and return to work and drink another cup of coffee or two until my eyes jittered.  Nasty, nasty habit, all of it.no

My last fill-up of gas at the base gas station was at $1.99/gallon. But this was a few days after the news report that a local gas distributor 'mixed up' diesel with unleaded and filled over a hundred stations with diesel insteal of unleaded from Wyoming to Colorado Springs, most in Denver Metro. The poor gas station owners are victims along with the car owners who now having to get their cars 'fixed' and place a claim. Of course gas prices jumped up right after that here.

I am glad I don't commute 100 miles a day and fill-up every two - three days in California at $3.00 to $5.00/gallon.

My first vehicle, just a year out of high school, was a Ford Econoline van.  I remember filling it from emty for only a few dollars.  And drove around all over the place.  Even my '66 and '69 Chrysler Newports didn't cost much to fill.  And they had big tanks...they were big tanks!  When I had the steel recycler come and take it, I was told it weighed 3,000 pounds!

Gas here currently running about $3.70. Not sure how much the current situation is impacting things. Thankfully I filled up on New Year's Eve on the way home from my folks' house, before everything went to heck in a ziploc bag (supply chain issues with handbaskets). With us being pretty much homebound, it'll likely last months before I have to do it again. Super glad I listened to that little voice in my head that said not to put it off.

Complaint:  Cheap furniture:  I have a nice looking roll-around w/ small dropleaf, waist high, kitchen cabinet that I use for extra counter space in my tiny kitchen.  It's tucked in next to the refrigerator and between one of my pantry shelf cases.  There is about two square feet of space in front of it to permit opening the cabinet doors.  It has one shelf that fits in the middle of the cabinet and rests on adjustable height pegs at each corner.  It worked fine for the more than 10 years that I've had it.yes  But recently the back right peg would work its way out of its hole and the shelf in the cabinet would drop one corner, necessitating removing everything from the cabinet to find the peg and replace it.  I'm not as bendable as I was 10 years ago and getting down on my knees in that tiny space to empty the cabinet was becoming a problem.frown I fixed it twice over the last six months, by squeezing myself into that two foot square space and clumsily finding the peg and lifting the shelf & contents back in place.  However, after the third time it did that I said to myself  "Ah-ha I'll just pull the cabinet out into the middle of the kitchen floor and I'll have lots of room and the task will be easier and more thoroughly resolved.enlightened  Quick & simple, right?indecision  First problem:  The cord on the toaster which sits on the top is too short, which requires finding a place for the toaster to be when the cabinet isn't there.  Second problem:  The hole that the peg goes into has dried out and enlarged, meaning it's now obvious why the peg keeps slipping out.frown  Third problem:  I'm on my knees praying to the gods of old age that I'll be able to get up again and my back won't spasm, and discover that there is nothing within reach thin enough to stuff into the hole with the peg.  Fourth problem:  I twist my back getting up to find a piece of paper or plastic to wedge in with the peg.  Fifth problem:  I finally get the right rear peg wedged in, and the shelf reseated, and then the metal front left peg goes "clink" and the shelf falls a new direction.sad.  But I had my piece of paper within reach this time so fixing it was easier.  Sixth problem:  I get the shelf in place again and begin loading up the things that are supposed to be there and realize many of them are out of reach.  Arghhhh...angry  Seventh problem:  Just as I was able to shimmy around enough on my knees to reach all the things to go on the shelf, the left rear peg goes "clink" and down goes the shelf in yet a third direction.crying  One peg to go.  Now becoming belatedly smarter, I test the right front peg but it seems to be wedged in tightly(small favors).  The shelf is now in place, the items are loaded on the shelf.  All the items in the bottom of the cabinet are back in place.  I've gotten myself up off of the floor without wrenching my back again.  I've shattered the silence of the household with 20 minutes of sporadic vulgarities, and the cabinet is back in its proper place with the toaster on top next to the refrigerator.

My legs hurt!  My coffee maker died yesterday.  I think it was yesterday?  I ordered a new one but it is cheaper.  Oh, do my legs hurt because of caffeine withdrawal?

I am at an Apple Store.  I don't see any fruit in sight.  It seems very popular.  I forgot what I was going to say.

oh I renewed my platinum membership yesterday at my favorite 3D store.  I got some extra stuff after I renewed it.

One item I can't show here (Genesis 9 Antomical Elements.). Where can I use that item?  Not talking about XXX renders that go overboard.

...meanwhile Seattle took San Francisco to the woodshed, 41 - 6.   The 49rs never even got into the "red zone all game (the part of the field between the 20 yard line and goal line).

They will face either "Da Bears" or LA Rams in the NFC Championship with the winner punching their ticket to the Super Bowl.

A new neighbor moved in within the past few months, a lovely elderly couple. We were speaking about the game earlier this week. Found out they were from Buffalo NY and the wife is a rabid fan of the team and going to the game. When asked about my loyalties, I said if I admitted to supporting the Broncos I would jinx their game totally. She asked me to go ahead, would never tell anyone. :-) Well yesterday I peaked a few times, until the last quarter and then my heart was caught up in the battle across the field. I don't follow football so I wasn't sure what the rules for overtime were. But okay, that was incredible. All I can say is both teams worked their bodies to crazy limits. I feel so bad for NY, happy/sad for CO. Bittersweet victory for Broncos.

...speaking of phone issues, on Thursday my connection went out completely (I have auto pay so that wasn't the issue). This was a day after the big Verizon outage.  The os part is service I have uses AT&T and T-Mobile towers, mot Verizon  so not sure why it went down. I had to switch to my Xfinity Wi-Fi router for the morning but it cleared up later.

Make an "Excel" type spreadsheet to define your budget, and keep track of ALL expenses.  Make the automatically calculated final bottom line a summary of what your bank account would be if all bills and credit cards were paid off.  KEEP IT UPDATED & ACCURATE, DAILY!  When it goes into the red at the bottom line, slightly panic, but tighten your budget.enlightened  I've used "OpenOffice" for nearly 20 years.  It's free, but any other good spreadsheet like "LibreOffice" or even Microsoft's free cloud based Excel in "Office360" will work.  It started out simple, but over the 20 years I've expanded and improved my spreadsheet.  I make a new page for each month, automatically transfering the category totals from the previous month.  And on a Summary sheet I keep all my categories of expenses totaled and summarized.  At the end of the year I copy and start a new spreadsheet incorporating the improvements learned in the previous year. I should have kept a spreadsheet when I was making big money.(*sigh, I could'a been confortable in retirement*)  But now that I'm living on Social Security only, I have to watch my spreadsheet like a hawk and make sacrifices when necessary.frown  But at least I know when it's going to be necessary a few weeks ahead of time.yes  And it makes excuseable splurges possible.smiley
