Why does the shader work on a primitive, but not on an imported obj

Hey guys,

I exported an obj from blender and I tried to apply a brick shader to it, but no matter what I try to adjust under the horizontal/verticle tiles, it just does not work

However, when I create a simple sphere, then, with the Surface tab selected sphere, I can double click on the shader and it appears properly as I would expect it to do.

Do I have to export from blender with something special in the export window selected or do I have to import an obj file with something special selected in the import window?

Thanks in advance

Try selecting your obj, select it in the surface tab and select the various surfaces, apply default iray shader from Default Resources>shaders>iray uber shader, then apply your shader to those surfaces.  The simple sphere primitive arrives with the iray uber shader already applied.

@nemesis10 - thank you for your response. Yes, I tried that exact suggestions, but alas, same result. I also tried copying the original surface of the sphere, pasted onto my object, but it turned out to be the same result.

BTW, is there a way to use a Bezier curve to lathe an object, like I can in Blender. I imagine that someone will suggest to use Hexagon, but I really do not want to learn another program.

Is the model UV Mapped? You should see an exploded view of the mesh in the UV View in DS or in Blender's UV window.

@Richard Haseltine - Thanks for the response. Yea, I deleted all the materials within Blender> Shading and I also went under the UV - Unwrap, followed by trying the Smart wrap.

As far as Daz, under the UV View, it is just a white canvas

Thank you for your suggestion once again. I re-opened the blender file, followed by going into the UV editor, but this time, I did a select all, followed by Unwrap, then I exported the object, with Material group selected. When I imported the newly created obj file, I was able to select and apply the brick shader with no issues - see attached render

Thank you, thank you, thank you
