Daz Studio 2025 Thoughts

It is buggy as hell but it is faster. I like it and it seems to render faster. The Look at me II scripts are not working but that will come with time.

It is an alpha, not even a beta yet. See https://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/728111/daz-studio-2025-alpha-version-6-25-2025-11206 for the main discussion.
I get so many errors that I can't use it on my Mac.
Oh, I just wanted thoughts not on official tread. I just check main tread and there are hundreds of posts lol.
Iray isn't working for me in the alpha. Characters are just white all over. Also, the "Preparing Scene" progress bar below the viewport fills up, then starts over.
No problems with Filament in the Alpha. No Iray problems with the 4.23 beta. Same render settings and hardware preferences in both 5 alpha and 4.23 beta. Suggestions?
What GPU and driver do you have?
You may have an NVIDIA driver that is too old for DS 2025.

So far I have no issues and I appreciate the work Team Daz is doing.
It's not showing me an option to render in 3Delight. If this is going to be a permanent feature and not just something they haven't implemented yet then I will be keeping verion 4.23, I'd better download and backup the installer before they take it away.
If they handle this like the previous transitions the final release of 4.23 will be available in your product library indefinitely. I still have installers for versions 2, 3, and pre-genesis 4.
What you will want to grab and keep are the non-Daz plugins and scripts, and from the looks of it, 3DL lights and shaders.
Hmm - speaking as a guy who spent ten years doing procedurale planning and documentation for disaster recovery - don't forget a copy of your OS with proper drivers and hardware that it will run on. And yes, for most of us this is overkill, but for some it doesn't hurt to supplement a belt with suspenders, safety pins, and possibly crazy glue.
Unfortunately 3DL render engine is listed as "retired" in this thread: https://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/727631/daz-studio-2025-6-25-2025-x-evergreen#latest
The latest version of DS4 will remain available in your product library for download (like they did with DS2 and 3).
I like it better. It is noticibly faster.
It is an ALPHA.
It is laggy and I ran in issues, which is pretty much expected from an alpha.
Just love the excitement to get a glimpse, what the final 2025 might look like.
I barely use DS these days except to export content to other programs, so I'm not really the target market, but from my little experimentation it does seem faster, and I like the improvements to the viewport.
Outside of lag and a default light (not a fan of pitch black in the Viewport in Texture Shaded mode), I love the potential here, especially since we can now use custom fonts in the Scene Pane and emojis! Two of my biggest wishes right there.
Clothing Converter, G3f to G8f isn't diplaying the front panel correctly in 2025, the "output Directory" requester is hidden.
Can't seem to get my screengrab into the box here.
If you haven't already, please report bugs in the main thread https://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/728111/daz-studio-2025-alpha-version-6-25-2025-11206
I tip my hat to all the people brave enough to jump in and bug test the alpha build.
All modules for Renderman construction are displayed in Shader Mixer. Of course, if they can no longer be compiled, their utility is null. It would be great if they added an IDE to write our own material files (.mat) and the ability to compile them into custom .filamat files.
Well, I got it installed and made my first render with it. Posting here for posterity. Not my best work but a quick one.

bricks show which shader language(s) they are compatible with, and there is a filter option in the brickyard. Bricks (Default) > Functions > Filament > Custom Filament provides access to choosing a custom filamat file. As noted in http://docs.daz3d.com/doku.php/public/software/dazstudio/4/change_log_4_23_0_1#4_22_1_94 it is possible to compile, using ./bin/matc.exe
Nothing particularly brave about it... the installation doesn't affect either my use of the beta, or general release, it doesn't take up much space, and though I can't seem to dforce without a crash, in general, the renders are faster on my Mac.
Thank you very much. I tried to use matc.exe, but it didn't work. If I remember correctly, the response was that it couldn't be found. However, since it has been confirmed to me that it exists and works, it is worth insisting.

Too crash happy. Not worth the time installing.
It is an alpha, meaning it is not feature complete or fuilly stable. If you have a choice (that is, not a 50x0 owner on WIndows or a mac user wanting Filament) then it probably shouldn't be regarded as a production tool - though the more people give it a try the sooner it is likely to be in beta and then General Release.
Filament is more laggy in 2025 than in 4.23 - guessing this is just Alpha buggy blues so fingers crossed this will also be performant. Texture Shaded is much more performant than in the past, even during animation playback and Puppeteer use - which is nice to see.
In DIM, I have a "Public Build Install Modules" that fails to install. What is it?
See the DIM log file below. It is looking in the wrong location. To help protect it from theft, my DIM data is on multiple USB drives called "DAZ Installer Files (Y:)" : Y:\Documents\3D\DAZ 3D\InstallManager
Also note: in my Y:\Documents\3D\DAZ 3D\InstallManager directory, there is no directory called InstallModules, i.e. Y:\Documents\3D\DAZ 3D\InstallManager\InstallModules
