Did they figure out why it isn't showing in DIM yet? I have it selected in DIM, and my DIM is up to date, but I still can't find it. I attached a screengrab of my DIM settings just in case something was missed.

It's been posted earlier than the people who can investigate the issue won't be there until Daz business hours start, so no.

It's on the server now. I downloaded it about 15 min ago. Make sure you follow the directions they gave.

    • If you haven’t already, download and install Daz Install Manager (DIM). It’s free and easy to do. [https://www.daz3d.com/install-manager-info]

Open Install Manager and log in with your Daz account.

Navigate to the “Download Filters” tab on the left

Scroll down to “Release Channel Tags” and confirm that the “Public Build” box is checked off. If it’s not, click to check it off. Then hit “Accept”.

Type “Daz Studio 2025” into the filter field.

      Download and install.

When was the development of DAZ Studio 5 (now called DS 2025) first announced?

Please, anyone, is this alpha release for the free, or for the subscription version?

I couldn't help but notice that it's got 'Strand Based Hair' editing direct in the viewport (which is great to see and quite a biggie), but I was under the impression that such a feature was part of the now subscription-only integrated MeshGrabber thing, so I don't know whether this alpha release is for the subscription verson, or whether they made the functionality available to non-subscribers in Daz Studio 2025.

We've known they had been working on a DS5 behind the scenes for many years, but first official announcement of a DS5 pre-beta release was almost 4 years ago in july 2021. At the time there were compatibility issues with MacOS Big Sur and they thought they would have to update the Qt version DS uses to solve them. Then they announced that they had managed to make the 4.x version work with Big Sur so DS5 release was delayed sine die.

Strand based hair editor is a feature of the regular DS version. What is premier-only is having deformers which work on strand-based hair (which didn't exist before what was supposed to be Mesh Grabber 4 and became the premier-only plugin).

Nope. Not there for everybody else.  Seems like some have access to the Private Builds and others don't

Cheers Leana, but that's what I'm getting at because the press release suggests that editing Strand Based Hair is now done directly in the viewport.

Thanks. I thought it was announced earlier than that which is why I asked. indecision

I hope the new vesrion will introduce dynamic scaling of the user interface since we now have 4K and 8K monitors and I have to scale up/down windows base resolution to make the interface usable at a glance. Also the ability to place tabs on separate windows for multi-monitor support I would like the content library and other tabs on a different monitor. Even the pop-up scripts would benefit from doing that. A true multi-window app usable with high resolutions monitors.

Scaling will likely work, IIRC that was a limitation of the version of Qt used which prevented that.

"Public build" should be selected since it's supposed to be published hrough that channel. But for the moment it doesn't seem to be available there.

frank0314 probably sees the Publishing Build, which has limited access.
