e: what is up with Genesis 3 Female, seems to be gone from my library/not available in the store any more?

Each Genesis generation has a starter essential package.

Even though I do not do any commercial renders (yet?!?) the "non commercial only" tag keeps me from downloading stuff, just because I'm too lazy to check items somewhen in the future if I might do something commercial.

No, that content is listed under a different account, I am not actually going to delete anything from the site at least not right now, unless something changes that gives me a reason to do that.

If you want the Poser V3/V4 content, here is my old ShareCG gallery:

    https://sharecg.com/pf/full_uploads.php?pf_user_name=fleshforge

Please note I am not able to support any of that stuff at all, I no longer even have a copy of Poser!

It's funny, I actually saw someone using part of my Dark Sorceress dress from back then just yesterday, I can count on one hand the number of times I've ever seen anything of mine ever actually used anywhere frown

The V4 stuff should be pretty well supported in DS, anyway. I have and still use a lot of V4/Poser stuff. Dark Sorceress looks like fun. I like the Seraphim Revealed outfit, but I saw that it's an authorized port under EL. You have a lot of fun stuff, new and older. Cheers to that!

I tend to agree with your position. Despite that, I do still download the occasional EL freebie. surprise I try to mark the item as such so I remember the limitation.

G3 is still alive and well, plenty of G3 stuff in the store and in my library.

oh and btw, what a bummer that the site is closing. obviously I don't know any behind the scenes information... but I low-key think the site could have had so much more traffic if only they'd have reasonably sized thumbnails instead of these teeny tiny ones. I didn't visit ShareCG very often, mainly because squinting at those ant-sized thumbnails was just too exhausting.

Renderosity or RenderHub shhould buy ShareCG.com and draw more traffic to their own sales site. It's not like it would add too much overhead costs to their current site. However, I have no ideal how much in the black their profits are.

I'm trying to imagine how Renderosity or RenderHub could profit from owning ShareCG. I can't understand how. Could you elaborate? How, for example, could trafic be directed from ShareCG to whichever other site owns ShareCG?

Correct. Freebies draw traffiic. Traffic leads to iimpulse buying. DAZ got me. Renderosiity got me. Via exactly that method. And ShareCG has one of the largest selection of freebies made by hobbyists. They'd need to add css to tiightly integrate it in with their main site.

A nice selection of hats, for G8M but they should work nicely on any other figures:

Edit: oh, nice, they are already available on Renderosity, in case someone read this message too late to get them through ShareCG:

Did share CG say "when" they were offline--does anyone know any further details? It didn't mention it in their closing announcement.. just that they were closing..  They were up this morning, but now it only spins

No. They did not give any specific information.

But just because you can not reach it at the moment is not a confirmation of closure. As was previously mentioned, freebies were stored in the most economical method and therefore the server may be overwhelmed by concurrent visitors.

I think it's down for good, even the announcement message site is down - probably simply de-listed from being served, whatever the technical term is, but this is not just server load:

It's too bad that you had to be logged in to the site to download stuff, otherwise the Wayback Machine may have been able to preserve some of it. :(

ShareCG is down for me right now but it has been going in and out for the last few days.  I'm guessing the word has gotten out and they are being slammed with people trying to download stuff.

  • TorquinoxTorquinox Posts: 4,338

It's the way of things. Unfortunate! I got a lot of stuff, though.

It was an amazing site and I am grateful to everyone who shared their favorites.

  • emanuela1emanuela1 Posts: 968

I also think the site is now closed, with the same text screen reported by others. It was one of the first sites to look for freebies when I started with DAZ, and I'm very sorry that it closes. Let's hope that some other site wants to take that space and leave it open. I thank so much all the authors who have been generous and have shared their works with us users.

Hey a small heads up for the 5 people or so who like/use my free content: I am in the process of listing essentially everything of mine made with modern tech at RenderHub (including a few items that did not make it onto ShareCG or Renderosity). I am going to allow the very old Poser V3/V4 era content I made to fade into history.

    !!!!!!!!!!

One of the 'A lot more than 5' here: I need to get your V3 stuff. NEED it. I find I'm using a fair bit more V3 now that I've managed to get a TriAx version of Jim Burton's Glamorous V3 working and set her up to autofit V3 clothes.

    Regards,

    Richard

Apparently I had set up couple of Google Sites pages with my old generation content, and someone archived it at some point, I don't really remember doing this but it does have my signatures on the site activity, so ...

There were DB errors the other day too, so hopefully it might not be gone for good yet.

  • @Squishy, @DollyGirl does a lot of cross referencing for PoserDazFreebies, as does DAZ member @Kerya and Rob Kelk over there. It is useful, usually, to have an ad free cross reference site.

If you didn't have the time to get it, I think I got all the V3/V4 era archives from Squishy's alternative account.

I can look for a way to send you everything if Squishy agrees.

I'm getting the error too, I am so sad about them going away.. I am also sad and disappointed sad that in their announcement they didn't at least give everyone a time frame for their departure.. like Hivewire did. They just said.. we are going away and that is it and its not even 2 weeks later.  I wish someone would buy it.  I want to try to contact some artists and see if they can re-upload their wares elsewhere..I really liked Birdman77 I believe it was as well as Spacebones.

I am thankful some folks are doing that!

    I see you created a 69 page tutorial: https://www.renderosity.com/freestuff/items/96369/tutorial-triax-figures-from-old-parametric-figures

I'm not very good at learning via text, do you know if anyone has done a video tutorial on how to create a TriAx version of V4 or A3? Just curious, as it sounds like it would be a really neat figure, as I have a ton of V4 stuff that just doesn't transfer very well to newer figures, despite having V4 clones.

I feel sorry for whomever edits and maintains the Pose Daz freebie wiki https://poserdazfreebies.miraheze.org/wiki/Main_Page

That is going to take a LOT of work to get rid of all the old ShareCG links, or mark them all as inactive.

Man it's such a bummer that nearly 15 years of community content is just gone. :(

  • @3Diva , I have not seen if anyone has done a video version of the tutorial. I know I have not, as I don't have any experience of video. Regards, Richard.
