The direct shaders weirdly work? It's just the converter scripts that won't work for me. The camera also works.
Are all the products in their default locations? Did you move anything? The scripts don't work if they're not in the default location, they also don't work if Daz's default Filatoon shaders aren't in their default location. Just make sure everything is in their default locations. If you move things around, the scripts won't know where to find the shaders or the toon attachments. Please let me know if you've moved anything or installed them manually. The Daz Install Manager (DIM) will install everything in their default locations - the places they need to be in order for the scripts to work properly.
Make sure none of the products were installed or updated from inside Daz Studio. That puts the files in a different location, and the DIM installation will be completely ignored by Daz Studio. Installing or updating inside Daz Studio is called "Using Daz Connect". Many scripts fail if installed or updated inside Daz Studio. If you install with DIM, there is NEVER any reason to install or update a product inside Daz Studio!!!!!!!!!!
See all those exclamation marks? That is how important that statement is.
If you have installed Easy Filatoon, or updated it, from inside Daz Studio, you will need to UNINSTALL it from inside Daz Studio to resolve the problem.
I was having a similar trouble a few weeks back, because somehow the "In Daz Studio install" wasn't getting it quite right, but it worked when I used the DIM installer.
Maybe that's what's happening?
It's not installed via DAZ Connect, no. Still giving me the issue. Everything is in its default folders. I haven't moved anything.
Looks like a fresh install may be in order :(
In the Content Library, right click on the thumbnail of the script that is failing for you. In the menu that pops up, select Browse to File Location...
Does it go to the folder hierarchy where you believe DIM installed it? Or does it go to some other folder hierarchy?
You may have been manually examining the folder where DIM put the files and seeing that all the files are there, but Daz Studio may actually be looking for the files in some incorrect place. Browse to File Location... will show you where Daz Studio is looking, which might be someplace other than where you have been looking.
First of all, I want to say that I love this product. Given the complexity, it's easy enough to graps and offers so many options. The only grumbling I have is that the only tutorial is available as a video, and it's not a downloadable one, so every time I want to check something, I have to go online, to Youtube, and jump back and forth to find an answer to my question. But it does a great job of demonstrating the product... I just like written documentation. ;)
And I have a question: what would the process look like if I wanted to keep the figure's normal proportions and normal eyes (vs. having anime eyes)?
If so, do not run the scripts of Easy FilaToon - Base Feminine - APPLY FIRST.dse / Easy FilaToon - Base Masculine - APPLY FIRST.dse ... to convert your figure to toon style as well as replace with toon eyes / eyebrows / eyelashes / mouth / etc. Just manually convert iray materials to filatoon materials from the folders of Skin / Eyes / Hairs / Clothing... etc. as needed.
Thanks. For some reason, I had it in my head that you had to do the "apply first" scripts.
Thank you! I appreciate you giving an answer to that question! :)
There'a a Part 2 to the tutorial and right around the 11:53 mark it shows how to convert Genesis 8 figures but the process works for other figures, including Genesis 9 figures that you don't want to use the "Apply First" converter scripts on. Because the eyes and mouth are separate objects for Genesis 9 though, you'll have to be sure and apply the shader presets to those as well.
Ironically I did not know that you're a PA, as I see you so frequently in the forums that I thought you were just another forum'er, I'm having a blast converting my scenes as this makes animation possible for me as I don't have to wait ages for this to render!
Having these shaders dependent on filament rather than Iray is a brilliant use of filament!
Only issue I have is that I can't use the floating iris, as my poses are too extreme for the stock poses this comes with, so I found that using the G9 eyes the pupils are only displayed as an untextured and empty space that shows the back of the eye so I am stuck with white/untextured pupils...
EDIT: Fixed by turning off the eye socket checkbox in the toon shell's display menu.
Bonus points: it runs with the new alpha!
Non-Bonus Points: The environ, etc options for filament are not translating over to my copy of the new alpha...
EDIT: I solved this by turning up the environmental wieght in the skin shader.
Overall this is a great product, yet my version of the alpha appears bugged, either that, or it's a scripting issue with the alpha's new scripting api...
Thank you for the feedback! :) I'm so happy to hear that you're using Easy FilaToon in your animation projects!
I don't know what issues you're having with the Alpha, but hopefully once it's out of Alpha and onto an official release they'll have the bugs worked out. If you're still having issues after the official release of that version of Daz Studio please let me know and I'll get with the Daz3D team and see if we can figure out what the issue is. Also, please feel free to post any screenshots of what the issues you're seeing are.
Since you're not using the floating iris, what you can do is set up the eyes the way you like them (you should be able to use any of the included Shader Presets on the regular Genesis 9 eyes), then save those eyes as a wearable preset. When you're done setting up your figure, delete the eyes you don't want to use and load that wearable preset instead.
Thanks again for the feedback! :)
I did these FilaToon renders a while back, but I finally got around to putting them together in a short one-off comic page.
Even though I'm migrating back towards Iray after my current long-term project ends, I have to say that Easy Filatoon is the best of the Filatoon helper products out there. No disrespect to the others, but this is just better.
Thanks for your attention on this, although I think it's an issue with Daz Studio as the filament issue is on them, not the PA, as PAs are not able to script for the alpha, so whatever scripting issue that may exist will have to wait until DS2026 hits beta...
Thanks for the suggestion, as that solution never even occurred to me!
Also of note, your tool tips having the actual location of the folders is a nice touch!
WOW, these are incredible!
Looks like I'm learning a lot about you, time to go check out your gallery!
Thank you, vrba79! That's very sweet of you to say! :D
Thank you! That's kind of you to say! :) I haven't really posted anything in the gallery in some time, though.
If I hadn't already bought the product, this would've sold it to me. How did you get that effect on the hair/fur? Just custom maps or some trickery we may (feasibly) replicate?
Well, *there's* your problem! It shoudn't be a "one-off", we need more Cat Girl International comics...
The fur and hair are custom maps, but you might be able to get a similar effect with gradient color images loaded into the base color map zone. :)
Haha That would be a fun project! Oh if only I could clone myself, so many fun projects I'd love to work on! :D
Hey @3Diva, I conquered those issues that have been bugging me...
First the eyes, it was a simple solution that I stumbled on and that was to turn off the toon eye socket!
Then the Filament shader was solved by turning up the environmental weight via Genesis character's shaders directly.
So it had nothing to do with Daz, as it boiled down to it being a user issue, as I have not tinkered with it before I first posted, otherwise I would have found those settings already, thanks for your response to the matter!
Oh, that's great to hear! I'm so glad you were able to find a solution! :D
