I went to the start menu and stared at it a few seconds as I forgot what program I was going to open.

Morning. The monotone gap between daybreak and sunrise seems to be longer today  :)

  • kyoto kidkyoto kid Posts: 42,159

..afternoon.  Had a fair bit of rain yesterday evening and overnight. Cleared some of the pollen out of the air. Some lingering showers with more on the way tonight into tomorrow.  Then a rapid warmup back into the 80s by the weekend.

Finally got my voter registration revision form. Need to drop that off at the elections office which is fortunately nearby so I can get my ballot sent to the right address. Oregon  is one of the few states to have a vote by mail system. Nice and convenient for many here, no standing in lines or having to rush to a polling site after work.

...seems they need to fix the starter motor on the spell checker, had to try several times to get it to kick in.

I grew up in a house that had been owned by Earl Gray.  Not the Earl Grey but still... perhaps it's why I always order "Earl Grey, hot."

...chilly night tonight, mid 40s and wet though most of the rain has moved off to the east of hte city.  Managed to dodge the rain on my errands.  Got my voter registration all set (primary here next month) and food to make it into next week.

Splurged on a bottle of real maple syrup for my waffles (all the commercial brands are nothing but HFCS and artificial flavourings), forgot to get chicken though.  Also picked up a triple bacon pizza, mmmmmmm, tasty.

Well Kobe Bryant played his last game tonight, scored 60 points in the effort even though the Lakers were not in the running for the playoffs.  I remember when he first came into the league straight out of high school. a kid who could make some incredible and creative shots. Never would have thought he would make it as far as he did, and in these days of free agency, stay with the same team through his entire career.

Also Golden State (formerly the old San Francisco Warriors) set a new all time NBA record winning 73 games, and thus, eclipsing the Chicago Bulls (led back then by Michael Jordan) 72 win season in '95-'96. Warriors only lost 9 games all season and had the longest undefeated record in league history (24 & 0) until the lowly Milwaukee Bucks beat them back in December.

Twinings produced a tea blend called "Lady Grey" - it took away some of the citrus notes of Earl Grey tea, and replaced them with more floral notes. Not sure how successful it was, since I'm allergic to tannin, so don't drink tea....

Lady Grey is awful   I drink proper Earl Grey,  made from real tea, not tea bags, brewed in a teapot.  Twinings changed the Earl Grey blend in the tea bags, but keep the original blend for their loose tea.

Good morning. I prefer Teavanna tea which is loose tea.

"Earl" not "oil".  Sheesh! devil  Like the Earl of Oxford, or the Earl of Suffolk, or the Earl of Sandwich.  And who is this "oil" of Bergamont[sic] anyway? wink

    My knee hurts

  • kyoto kidkyoto kid Posts: 42,159

...all my joints and bones ache today with the cool damp weather we've been experiencing.  Guess it's the price for having all the pollen washed our of the air and being able to breathe again.

Upper 40s and drizzle at the moment, Doesn't appear we'll even hit the forecast high of 55º.

70º in Stevens Point WI where last week it was snowing.  60º in Dubrovnik and it's almost midnight there.

Would love to have even just one day where everything feels good.

What is a good ad blocking thingie for Firefox?

  • kyoto kidkyoto kid Posts: 42,159

    ...AdBlock Plus.

However, if you use YoutTube a lot it seems the  site is set to reject all ad blocking.  I had to disable ABP as well as Clean Tube and a couple other ad filtering add ons to get it to work properly.  With any one of them turned on, I get a blank page with just the You Tube header and footer. With all are turned on, I get a very crappy looking basic HTML display and all the videos play in an extremely small window.

With it all turned off, I have to now deal with ads before a video plays, ads that masquerade as videos, and the worst, pop up text ads in the video window. Really annoying.

I am looking for a book shelf that has three or four shelves and each shelf can hold sixty to a hundred pounds each.  I am looking at amazon but my budget limit right now is a hundred.

Possibly NoScript may be of value, depending on what you are trying to block.  I've not compared it to other things so I don't know if it's better or worse than alternatives.  It can have problematic side effects, since it pretty much breaks most websites when turned on, and sometimes even when disabled, but I've still found I prefer those issues over not having it at least today.  It definitely does block some annoying adds, I notice big time when I disable it to use some website then forget to turn it back on.

There is no such thing as too much chocolate.  However, if you get sick blame it on the sugar.

...well a bit more peace and quiet again.  The third dog the other people in the house got didn't work out as he became more and more aggressive towards the others (most likely vying for the position of "alpha dog" of the household), so they took him back. He was originally trained as a service dog for one particular person who had to give him up (for a really stupid reason which is a long story I will not go into) to someone else. That "someone else" is the person who sold him to the housemates.

Needless to say the original owner and dog have been reunited and I am told he (the dog) was very happy to be back with his person again.
