Diffeo scale and position issues

globallyglobally Posts: 128
January 29 in Blender Discussion

Hello,

ive been using diffo for a while now and always had an issue where the eyebrows, vellus hair and sometimes gens would be in differnet positions to the main character (g8f). i figured out that is down to the location of my character pose in daz (ie the pose might be +10 on the y and the eyebrows etc would import at zero) i always worked around this by just making sure the pose was at zero for all translations. i recently changed the scale of my character using the main scale slider and im having the same issue, the eyebrows, vellus hair and gens are importing at the old scale. what am i missing? i tried memorizing the figure but that doesnt seem to work.

Be sure "apply transforms" is set in easy import.

Hi Padone, thanks for all the help you give here for diffeomorphic.

i did think I’d tried "apply transforms" but i tried it again but the scale (and I'm guessing transforms if I didn't have the pose set to zero) is still off on the eyebrows,  vellus hair and gens.

im exporting an HD g8.1f using the geometry editor trick. Sometimes the gens will follow but it seems to happen randomly and not to the other items.

The dbz exporter bakes from the viewport so what you report should be impossible. Be sure to tessellate in the viewport before exporting, just in case. If this doesn't work please provide a test scene as simple as possible, so we can give a look.

Ah you learn something new everyday. Ok I'll give it a try first. How do you tessellate in the viewport? I've never heard of that before. Is that a setting on the eyebrows and vellus?

It's the usual tesselation and PR hair in the daz hair settings, if you're not aware that's probably why it works random for you, depending on the settings.

Sorry Padone but i dont see any tesselation settings anywhere. Is this per hair item? I am looking at the eyebrows for example and i cant find anything called tesselation in parameters, surfaces, render settings or draw settings. What am i missing here?

Select a hair object, then parameters > general > line tessellation, as shown in the picture above. This is also explained in the docs I linked above. If you can't see it then the hair is not SBH or dForce, and you should be able to import it as a regular mesh. If you have no idea what a dForce or SBH hair is, then ask/search in the daz forum to better understand it.

Or again provide a test scene as simple as possible, if the issue is limited to a specific asset that doesn't work.

Ok so it seems like the eyebrows and vellus hair dont have tesssellation settings so they should import as a regular mesh. ive made a simple scene with the base 8.1, bj ensley eyebrows and the standard 8.1 vellus hair on cheeks and mouth. im exporting using the geo edit export trick to get HD and the gens. i tick apply transforms which works for the gens but not the eyebrows or vellus.

I don't have any issue importing your scene, I exported the dbz as HD within the geometry editor. There's currently one python error in the latest dev version so I'll report to Thomas, but this doesn't affect the hair position as you noted. I'm using daz studio 4.23.0.1 and blender 4.3.2, diffeomorphic 4.3.0.2490. May be you just need to update.

update. The python error is now fixed in the last commit.
