Or dynamic paint in blender, it does fantastic ripples in like 30 seconds with no effort. Its the greatest
That too...
And since we are on the subject of ripples...mcasual also has a couple of scripts that can do very fun things...

Has anyone used the Fabric Presets which are free from Optitex? Do you apply them before you do your drape, and what exactly do they do?
Thanks for the great tips! Does anyone know if there is a way to constrain sections like in poser?
They affect bend, sheer, stretch X, Y, weight and friction; certainly a time-saver over entering 6 settings; I've created a customer script for one and may add another. And work the same in 4.8 and 4.9 beta (and with that custom script not from here).
I dont have the dynamic clothing control plugin,
Does anyone know if there's a way editing a saved dynamic item .duf to make a material zone pretty much stick to another item eg dress skirt waist ?
Is it the friction value?

how can i embed this video into my post ?
Yes, that's it. And it's exactly what it says on the tin, a lower value makes the cloth slide easily over its collision object, like silk, and a higher value makes it rub or stick, like denim or loose-knit wool. I've never tried hand-hacking the .duf file, but what you're trying ought to work. The only tricky bit is that you're going to have to bounce between the edited .duf open in a text editor, and the original .duf loaded into D|S, just to make sure you're poking at the correct surfaces — sometimes the surface names will be obvious enough, but sometimes they'll just be numbered, or foreign-language alphabet soup. And I have no idea how this would work with a cloth item that includes style variations.
The material presets are an 'easier' way to do that...the various presets have different wieghts and friction values.
And yes, to Wendy's question about the presets...I use them all the time with the 'free' plugin (not the fiull version). They are actual measured data for the type and weave of the preset. They are the exact same values in the full Optitex suite and are used for doing the sims of actual production clothing.
Nice utility, but didn't work unfortunately
Two questions -- can someone tell me more about this "pinning" method? I'm trying to put clothes on the hangers from the recent PC freebie, Collective3D's closet vignette, and stuff just keeps falling off. Do I SubD the hanger? Where do I put "pins?"
Also -- where do I change the fabric presets in the free version of the dynamic cloth player?
Having some fun with Daz dynamics in an attempt to make a room with clothes scattered about, a messy hamper, etc.
Thank you.

Pin is nothing more than a hangar or cylinder or something. If it falls through, you need to increase the mesh (I think with SubD). Primitives often need a lot of increasing because they are generally low poly.
If you put a pin through clothing, it SHOULD keep intersected area from moving. If it doesn't, either the pin or the clothing needs to be higher poly.
I'm experimenting right now, and I'm finding that it seems to be that a cylinder ought to be made with ~128+ sections and sides before it really 'catches.'
Another thing to keep in mind that Friction helps make the pin 'catch' better, too.
A cylinder that always works for me is 50cm length, 5cm diameter, 1 segment and 12 sides.
I've also changed the length only and had no problems; I have had a problem when scaling them after I've created them.
Not everything is going to have close enough verts to weld...unfortunately.
Like anything else, the only way to be 100% the clothing item is going to work, is build it for being dynamic, from the start.
You can edit the presets, too...especially for increasing the weights. And the presets do work in the free version of the plugin. In fact, in the free version, they are the only way to alter some of the parameters.
Yeah, but where do I enter the presets on the free version? The presets or parameters area seems greyed out on my free player.

The presets apply like a shader...select the item and then click the preset.
Oh yes. Strewn clothing. :)

I know I'm repeating myself, but SO happy for it and beds/blankets/etc. It's next to impossible to have conforming blankets unless you restrict poses a lot (or fake it and make the bottom halves of figures invisible).
Yes thanks, i tried sticking a strip of cloth to a sphere using friction 100 on a small panel/material section and it "pinned" quite well, i expected it to fall off so thats cool
Does anyone know where I can find cloth properties for silk, satin and velvet? Not included in the Fabric Presets from Optitex.
Over at Rendo, there's a script "DynCreator" that will turn any clothing into dynamic clothing usable in OptiTex for DS... going to look into it tonight.
It has it's limitations, but is great for the cash; it will certainly do until Daz give us something we want. :)
... Yes please we'd love dynamics.
Yes, for the price, it's a no-brainer. Even if you have to convert your clothing piece to obj first... I wonder if this actually would work with hair as well. If it does, this would be interesting for hair converted to obj out of LAMH, for example.
Some one said they had tried in on hair, but I believe all it does is make the hair mesh collaspse down flat. If you switch gravity to zero and just use wind you might get a desirable effect, otherwise it is only useful to flatten hair to make it look like it is wet.
It does, or has the potential to, but welding all the parts together is problematic; further, there is a lot of geometry which makes for slow poses on fast machines. I'm going to have another go with some different hair than I chose. I also made the mistake of making the hair elastic, it isn't of course. :)
Yeah, I was inspired to play with Dynamic clothing a lot after picking up DynCreator. It works amazingly well, but I think the mods here don't want extensive talk about it (they've zapped several threads on the subject). I tried it on hair, but hair, like a number of other objects, tends to fly to pieces when draped.
Also experimented with using Dynamic Sheets ( http://www.daz3d.com/dynamic-sheets ) as water, but finding the effect leaves a lot to be desired. But might try it as 'snow' or similar. Hmm.
I've been hunting down more info to be able to create new presets, but I'm not having much luck. The data that goes into making the preset is nigh on to impossible to find.
