Not sure about 4.9

I installed 4.9 and I've had no problems that I know of. I haven't noticed any missing content or any other problems. My 4.8 scenes readily loaded up and rendered with no problems in 4.9. I updated with DIM.

After I read your post (I remember you from the Arabella release days), I decided to install 4.9.  It's no huge deal either way, that I can see.  Just a regular update for me, with no trouble connecting.  Works offline and on.

I did get a new library added, when I re-installed Arabella, called My DAZ Connect Library.  Not particularly happy about having two libraries, side by side, but I can deal.  I do like seeing the products I have in my DAZ account.  I'd forgotten about a lot of them.

So everyone has to make his/her own decision, but 4.9 isn't a monster on my computer.  But I don't think 4.9 is at the real heart of the controversy.

Then why bother using 4.9 at all!? Isn't the whole purpose of the program to run encryption based content?

That's only part of what is included in 4.9. Beside Daz Connect and support for encrypted content you also have a new version of Iray and 3delight render engines which fix some bugs, improvements to Smart Content and Categories, and various bug fixes for DS itself.

If you work offline you can continue installing and using your content in the same way that you did before, you don't have to use Connect (well, unless you want the Connect-only items).

I will not install 4.9. I will not purchase any products if they're encrypted. I'll show no support for this move. This is a hobby, the content is for personal enjoyment. I stear away from any company or product line of such nature that uses any form of DRM. DAZ makes plenty of money or they'd not be in business still and offering discounts on their products. What is the point of this? Where is this heading? Why do I care? Because when i spend money, it's my runtime.

Well don't install it then. That's your choice. I have no plans to buy or use encrypted items either, but I'll update my DS version to get the program fixes.

Yes, installing 4.9 is no big thing.  Unless something is hidden, it's just an update, with metadata imported.  The encryption is a separate issue.  I'll have to think on that one. indecision

I am very interested in the bug fixes etc.  But until they can assure me that my personal content categories will stay the way they are I can't do it.  And by that I mean if I go, hit the button and instal 4.9 I don't have to figure out how to workaround, move things around or put things here or there to get it to work right.  First of all, that's just shy of being too technical for me and if I mess it up I am up the creek. Yes, I have it backed up but honestly,  I think I may have to wait til they either have a fix or another update comes along. I don't have the time to mess with it.  I can either spend a ton of time trying to mess around, or I can actually use the program to make art such as it is. But worst case scenario, I wlll just stick to 4.8 as long as I can, i'm pretty happy with the way it works now and if I have to its not that big of a deal.  But I put a good couple of weeks worth sorting my content, I have a ton of freebies, content from other sites and lots and lots of content from Daz, much of it the older generations.  It works flawlessly for me in that respect and its really important to me that it continues to work the way I have it set up. I will continue to watch and see how things develop and hope that they can come up with something that leaves the categorization already done alone as well as making it possible to continue organizing in the way that I would like.
