Here's an overview of how things should be set up.  If you're manually installing items, there's a good chance you have a problem with nested subfolders.  If you're using DIM, you may have your content directories set up incorrectly.

I have several DAZ content directories so I can easily find my stuff.  Many people just have one content directory but I'm really picky about organization and I do things like install a few items, do a one-off render, then clear out the directory.

To add/modify/delete where DS looks for content, right click on the Content Library tab and select "Content Directory Manager."

As you can see, I have those directories set up for DS, and a few of them are also tagged as having Poser content as well.

Here are the correct main folders inside one of my content directories:

If you see folders like "My Library", "Content", etc. inside the content directory, it means that you have nested content directories, usually because a vendor packed up the .zip improperly.  (This shouldn't happen with DAZ content as there are strict standards for how to pack items.)  If you go inside that folder, you should find a structure similar to what's one level up.  Just grab all the items and move them up a level.  (Folders like ReadMe, ReadMe's, Documentation, etc. are usually harmless - different stores have different requirements for where to put documentation for products.)

Here's an example of a product I bought that could have caused me problems.  If I had just unzipped this directly into one of my content directories, it would have put everything one level below where the items needed to go.  In this case, I copied over the Documentation folder directly into my content directory, then went inside the "My Library" folder and copied all of the subfolders into the content directory.

    Hope this helps.
