That is odd because I'm pretty sure I did a test render of Starship Vampire in Iray when I first got it. I didn't have any problems with it that I can remember. I'll have to go check the .duf file and see if it was 3Delight or Iray, but since I hardly ever render in 3Delight, I'm pretty sure it was Iray. I don't have the other one, yet. It is in the wishlist, though. I'll have to make a note of possible problems with 4.8 in the comments so I'll remember.
Dystopian worker drones would crash if you converted them to Iray and set Metallicity above 0. AT 0 was fine... anything else? BYE BYE DAZ
Given one of my main characters in my webcomic is a Dystopian Worker Drone, this was annoying (I just ended up using a glossier material for a while. Of course, now I've converted over to PWToon/3DL for my comic, but hey)
Ah, they are in the wishlist, too, so I don't have them. Another note to make, I guess.
There were a few, but I don't think there was ever a comprehensive list of what caused problems...
So, I found my .duf test file of the Starship Vampire and, yes, I can render it in Iray. I can't get any lighting to make it look good, yet, but I don't crash when I try to render in Iray. I have no idea why I can render it in Iray and others can't. I can't test the other items to see if they cause a problem on my system because I don't have those.
For speed, 4.9 is supposed to be faster, according to NVIDIA, but most of the faster gets eaten by the SSS fix in 4.9 in typical Daz Studio renders.
I also can render Starship Vampire in DS 4.8 without problem. This is with the default (ie 3DL) shaders, though after applying the iRay Uber to all surfaces it also renders just fine. Maybe it was certain material settings that caused it to crash, or it crashed only on particularly gpu cards.
