Massive Render Troubles

I used to do all my Daz work on an HP laptop that could barley run Daz3D, but still managed to get a lot of still image work done and a little animation. Recently I got a Dell Inspiron with Windows 10, it runs smoother, lags less and has no crashes like before. But my big problem is it wont render a single thing. On the much weaker laptop that barely ran it could get a still image out in 1-3 minutes, now it takes a whole 50 minutes to render one still image. Anybody have any advice?

What are your new specs for the Dell? It could be anything from the graphics hard you have, its drivers, Ram, or a host of other possibilities. If you want people to help you really need to start off by providing at least this basic information.

Are you rendering 3DL or iRay?

If the old laptop had a nvidia graphics card, and the new Dell does not, that would explain the difference. You might want to consider either using 3Delight, or investing in a nvidia GPU card, I would recommend at least 4GB on the card, but there are plenty of threads around that discuss the graphic card options

If the Dell you bought came with an AMD card, you could try contacting them and see if they will agree to you returning it for an nvidia card instead.

    does that narrow it down?

How much memory (ie RAM) in the new machine compared to the old one?

  • Doubled. Thanks for all the info by the way.

You're welcome, as a way of a comparison, I have an GTX 970 graphics card, and my renders with the graphics card are roughly 10 times as fast as compared to using just the CPU.

  • I noticed it was on Iray on default instead of 3Delight. I should mention I'm somewhat new to this. It's the little things that get you. Thank you so much for all the help and info.
