Skylake problems

Skylake bug causes Intel chips to freeze under ‘complex workloads’ article shared on my Facebook group page Compute This that I thought some here might find interesting.

Way to bring a guy down! You know the old saying "ignorance is bliss", that pretty much sums it up here, LOL. I have been setting up a new PC plan and was looking at Skylake as the CPU, but have pretty much decided that maybe going with Haswell would be better since there are not many benefits with Skylake over Haswell yet for my needs and it would be a little bit more cost effective. Then you post this and there is a link to the problems with Haswell also, LOL.

Guess it also explains why Intell hasn't made to many strides in increasing CPU speeds in the past few years. Oh well, back to the drawing board

Well Intel said they have a bios update that should fix it. There are two issues with that however. One is that people that already have systems will have to do the update themselves or get their system to someone who can (for a charge usually unless they can get it covered under warranty.) For people who buy machines after this, they will have to check to see if the system has the patch applied already or has been sitting in some warehouse since before the patch and has never been updated properly. The second issue is to see how the patch effects performance (and whether it actually works of course.)

On the plus side, the systems were getting hammered pretty hard before they fell to this bug, but that is exactly what people here would be doing with renders so....
