Aiko probably means "love child", and Keiko is probably "scenery lake" or "lord child"

With Japanese names, the meaning varies depending on the kanji used to write it.

    Aiko:

    • 愛子 — Love and child, child of love
    • 藍子 — Indigo and child, tinctoria child. Its meaning, "child who is superior to parents", on Japanese proverb, 'Blue dye is made from tinctoria'.
    • 愛幸 — Love fortune.
    • 葵子 — Hollyhock and child, the same kanji can be used to write Riko and Kiko as well as the more similar Aoko, Aoiko, and Ako.

    Keiko:

    • 恵子 — "lucky/blessed child"
    • 敬子 — "respectful child"
    • 景子 — "sunlight/view/scenic child"
    • 桂子 — "katsura tree child"
    • 圭子 — "square jewel child"
    • 慶子 — "happy child"
    • 啓子 — "open (one's eyes)/express/spring (season) child"

Yes, but also no. Names are meant to follow a certain standard in Japan and these days people ignore those rules pretty often so even if you have the kanji the name could be pronounced in many different ways (kanji have several ways to read them and sometimes they just make up completely new ones) so you really need both the pronunciation as well as the kanji to know.

I just picked a couple of the most common ones because I thought Aiko was funny when you said it in English. (Also ai  is a general sort of love ie. family, whereas koi 恋 is used solely for romantic type love - though you'd almost never say either and use like instead.)

  • Girl 7 just showed up in one of the new things. So is she next? Or this one?

Also, maybe she's an Ysabeau-like release? (Isabella-Ysabeau?) I thought we were getting more mini bases.

Actually, the morphs included in the Vintage Holidays Outfit say:

    • Gia 7
    • Girl 7

Seems like we have 3 G3F models coming.

Well if there's a Gia 7 coming then I am officially on board for Gen7 :O

I am worried about Gia. It seemed that Karen 7 pretty much fulfills the role of athletic female even though she is themed as a superhero.

So I hope Gia wont be too similar to Karen.

My guess is she will be the athlete/sports theme.

  • More modest breast anatomical elements, a more muscular shape without becoming androgynous... I think there's a space for Gia that is a few dial turns from Karen. I just don't know how much I'd need her until I saw the finished product.

A mini release like Ysabeau 6 for the Genesis 3 line would also be welcome.

Given the similarity of many of the base shapes, I suspect the theme, rather than subtle differences in the base shape, are more important to buyers of the pro packs. It will be the clothes, hairs & characters in the packs that will thus attract/repel potential buyers, with the base character of secondary consideration. If this is true DAZ can release a near unlimited number of new base females without having to concern themselves that the shape fills some sort of gap in the gene pool.

Make them shorter would be a nice change; not gonna happen, but hey, I can hope.

Yes I know it's easy to dial it in, but most people outside of Dazland are not so tall.

  • ToyenToyen Posts: 2,039

True. I think I only have one female that appears to be significantly shorter than others and that is Stephanie 6.

Everybody else could be a super model with their height : )

This is largely what's killing my interest in buying characters. I loved the idea in G2F that each character had a different niche/theme and then PAs built a range based off that. G3F has given us a couple of interesting body shapes and mostly just 'everyone is the same welcome to humanity. p.s. we're all on growth hormone.'

From her description Eva is meant to be athletic and lean - but so is Victoria. Karen is the superhero - but Victoria and Eva have the athletic bodies too. They're all insanely tall, but none of them can be supermodels because they don't have the build for it. Supermodels tend not to have proportionally large thighs, rippled abs, and average (large) breasts. So I'm sure Gia could fit right in with them as clones. IIRC Stephanie was meant to be the "short" one (average height so short) was Gia too?

Girl 7 sounds potentially interesting. I thought Callie 6 looked better than Girl 6 but in my head I see Callie as a sort of revision (same for Keiko over Aiko) so who knows.

The Girl range, as well as Callie, are stylized, so if that is what people want, then they fill a niche, but we already have a few stylized PA characters that morph off G3F if that is what is needed, you don't need a base as a start.

Didn't like Girl or Callie 6; looked too weird (as does josie 6 and 7). So that's two types I'll be saving money on... Woohoo.

I really like Josie 7. Josie 6 looks ... unfortunate.

The theme of the clothing was what caught my eye, in the Arabella release.  I loved Arabella from the first render though, so that became a flip-flop situation.  Now Arabella is my go-to.  Considering the similarity of the names, I have hopes for Izabella 7.   :-)

I haaated Arabella from her initial release and her promos (liked the concept but thought she just looked meh more victoria with weird nose) but once I bought her out of curiosity I saw that she was actually very different and really interesting and she's one of my gotos too. I'm interested in seeing what Izabella is like but also I'd love an upgadted Giselle and Keiko or a Callie.

Moral of the story: promos suck these days.

  • Ditto on the promos being worthless these days. And sometimes the themes can hide a great charachter . Arabella probably stands out the most on that front to me.  Perhaps a question to ask ia which previous generations do we NOT expect to see. I'm not surprised about Girl 7, but was a bit about Gia 7. And it's hard to imagine there will not be an Aiko 7, one has to wonder given that we have Arabella. I guess we call her Ar7 under the assumption A7 will eventually show up? I7 could be a repalcment for Stephanie, though I was under the impression previous genrations sold well. If themes are becoming a bigger factor, then could I7 be more historical, such as film noir? That name defintely brings that to mind for me (that or a queen).

  • ToyenToyen Posts: 2,039

Exactly! Arabella has the most misleading promos that do not do her justice at all.

She has an interesting face which does not really show in her promos.

Well there's Girl 6 and Gia 6 so no reason Aiko can't still exist. And as much as I love Arabella now I can't imagine a generation without Aiko. I mean, she was the first additional character, wasn't she? Unless Stephanie but I don't remember seeing her before 3. I just call her Ara in my head because yeah A7 is already reserved.

Thinking in terms of clothing themes, Izabella makes me think a bit more historical too. I was going to say vampirey but Ara's got that covered. I know everyone is going to scream at this in hatred but a proper, traditional princess would be fun. I'm so bored of this "all females must be super strong muscled independant fighters to not be slaves to the man demons" crap. Variety is best and most Daz characters are so obviously trained by fitness trainers daily its downright dull. Look at how popular Bethany was for that very reason (and Ara once we got used to her and those ghastly promos were ignored.) I'd love a slender female figure who isn't anorexic but also not a musclewoman super tall fitness freak like Victoria. Also smaller breasts because it's very easy to morph them larger but shrinking morphs usually look ..not as good.

    Soo...
    - Izabella, Fantasy Kingdom Princess
    - Izabella, Countess job stealer of Arabella
    - Izabella, Arabella's Twin Sister (sorry I just realised what a stupid suggestion that is)
    - Izabella, Film Noir Noirer of Films
    - Izabella, Fashion Queen
    - Izabella, Egyptian Queen, Ruler of the Nile (because that'd make no sense and therefore could totally happen)
    - Izabella is actually the replacement for Daz Horse 3 (or 2 or whatever it is, name the animals properly already)
    - Izabella, Fairy Queen (Giselle just brings her food. And glitter.)
    - Izabella, the Dwarven Princess (curveball!)
    - Izabella, Pirate of the High Seas (where are the low seas?)
    - Izabella, Fortune Telling Gypsy of No One's Quite Sure Where
    - Izabella, Premier Victoria Lookalike

    Sorry, I'll stop now >.>

Yes to Isabella being a traditional snowwhite/sleeping beauty fairytale princess theme! I think this would be something new!

Just to answer Lx's historical question, I think the first base character after V1 and M1 was the Millenium Girls (SKU 366), shortly followed by the Millenium Boys (SKU 383). After that came Stephanie 1 (SKU 531). The Girls and Boys used V1's UV so could wear her skins, but for some bizzare reason S1 used M1's UV maps, so you could use her to create your hairy women! There was no Aiko 1 as an original mesh, but there was a character called Aiko for the S1 model, here is the link to the readme (the product is long gone) if anyone is interested to see the original Aiko:

    http://docs.daz3d.com/doku.php/public/read_me/index/674/start

As you can see her SKU is 674. She does not look very asian, but does have that pointed anime nose. You had to wait a couple of more years after that for the far more famous Aiko 3 with her own mesh (although like all the gen 3 meshs they were actually based off V3's mesh).

    Oh wow, interesting, thanks.

I noticed that until the end of the Black Friday sale V1 was still in the store (though V2 and Aiko Stephanie Michael etc were gone) but they removed her at the end of it :/ Wish they'd bothered saying it was going - I'd have bought it for history's sake.

I had not noticed that M1/2 and V1/2 were now unavailable. What is odd is that some products based on them are still for sale, included DAZ originals. You would think they would keep the base figures for sale until all the products that require them are withdrawn first.

So it seems that the Millenium Girls and Boys are the only generation 1 meshs that remain. I got all the original meshs for free back in 2011, although I do not have the original Aiko character for Stephanie.

  • Are the gen1/2s in any bundles?

  • HavosHavos Posts: 5,609

I remember there was a bundle that contained them (it was called Starter pack, or something similar), but I can not find it now, so I assume they have been removed as well.

Also, if Izabella isn't a tradtional Cinderella/Snow White/etc. style princess, Daz, get on that! And don't give her the muscles and height of Victoria and the rest. Smooth, slender lines, etc.

Maybe I should just make it myself >.>

So, is this 'soon' 'Ira soon'?

(If you remember the end of 'Romancing the Stone', you'll get the joke.  If not..., well, you're probably too young, anyway!)

Not tall? hahahaha! Dream etc. I do however agree.

I rarely use morphs included, certainly at anywhere near full dial in. I care more about the quality of the textures; I have never returned an item because the shape sucked, but I have if there were issues with the textures.
