@algovincian  Nice!  I love the space hdri!  The visor emission was a nice touch.

...if the visor is a separate material zone couldnn't you just apply an Iray glass shader?

Yeah, it has its own zone. Truth be told, I hardly looked at the materials other than to convert them all to Iray Uber, and add the light blue emission to the visor (which was super easy). Should be easy enough to fix next time I render the scene. Been thinking about using a thin-walled mat so the front and back sides can emit different amounts of light. I'd like her face to be less illumated, while I'd like her hand to be more illuminated.

Also looking forward to TerraDome 3 so I can stick her on a rock, rather than floating in space!

...make sure to use the "Thin Glass" shader. The standard one will distort the face due to refraction.

A different glass shader would probably help.  Not all iray glass shaders are the same, though, so you might have to go through several before you find one that gives the look you want.  I have found that for regular glass, I use Iray Shaders - Glass by Dumor3D the most when changing glass surfaces in Iray.  It has a lot of different types of glass available with some customization options, too.

Thanks, Kyoto Kid.  Yeah, you never know what's lurking around Fern Lake at night! ;)

...I especially like the fog effect.  Did you use one of the Atmo Cams for Iray?

No, that was all Epic Props: Godrays & Volumetric Light for Iray.  I've been playing around with it and I think I'm starting to get the hang of using it effectively.  It's a pretty cool prop.

..ah something I don't have.  Been pretty broke since February as I am on a fixed income.  Had to even let my PC+ membership lapse.

Wishlist keeps growing but the ol' bank account isn't.

It really helps to set the little guy off from what is behind him.

@DarwinsMishap  Thanks.  That was tough to pull off, but I'm getting better at that sort of thing!  It's very tough getting the lighting to be just enough, but not too much in those types of scenes  :)

@algovincian  Yeah, I like how it turned out. I did two different versions of the skunk, with and without the Epic Props thing, and, even thought both look great, the one with the atmosphere was much better for a lot of reasons.

    @TabascoJack  Thanks much!

Another thumbs up for this render, with a special commendation for the lighting.  I'm going to have a look at this lighting set myself. The skunk looks cute, too.  I once got within about four or five feet of one of these at London Zoo, armed only with my big Canon.  The skunk was feeling very calm and laid back so I didn't need a three hour shower afterwards!

    Cheers,

    Alex.

I like the lighting set.  I did find that you may need to add some additional lights for highlighting.  Set those up first and get those the way you like before you add in the Epic Props stuff.  Seems to work much better that way.

    edit: forgot to say Thanks!!!!

Love the lighting in this, also the subtle use of D.o.F.    Good work!

Btw,  what is that ground texture you're using for the bricks?  Nice appearance of depth on those.

That's really good. If DAZ had a more realistic way to make that dress billow in the wind it'd be super.

Thanks.  That is the 3Delight shader that comes with Blooming Alley.  They worked really well with just hitting them with the Iray Uber Shader.  I didn't have to go looking for an Iray specific one.

Thank you.  That particular dress gives the impression it has a hoop skirt underneath.  I didn't play with it much to make it flow more although it has some nice morphs with it.  If I had chosen a different type of dress, I probably would have done a couple of dynamic tricks with it.  As it is, the old fashioned look of the hoop skirt was more in line with what I was trying to achieve for a more old fashioned feel.  I wanted it a little more relaxed feel to the image, though, instead of rigid which is why she is barefoot.  I kind of like they dichotomy.

Still very nice. Didn't realize it was a hoop dress.

Well as I keep seeing threads in the forums regarding Genesis 3 character models rendering darking than their ad copy I decided to set up 5 models in Times Square NYC and render them in a DAZ Studio Sun & Sky iRay setup for 24 hour on Solstice (June 21) for reference for the new DAZ Studio users although I think most new users don't frequent the forums so much, the Galleries so much or this thread so much.

It's a good quick reference though for what shadows will look like for any particular time of day and shows that you'll want to add studio lighting with reflectors or increase the Sun Disk Intensity to 2.0 or something to make up for the iRay textures being too dark.

I am also rendering a 25th image in the Window Alcove Freebie with an 2700K Incandscant Bulb at 8' in the middle of the room model at 1500 Lumen (typical LED Lumen bulb is 750 Lumen) at Times Square NYC at 12:00 on Solstice, 22 Jun, but it is not finished rendering yet. It will be added to the same gallery. Because DAZ Studio kept crashing with OOM for this render I had to delete the G3F & G3M models from the scene.

The models are from left to right:

    1. G3F with V7 iRay texture

    2. The Girl 7 with the Girl 7 iRay textures

    3. caricature (G3M) with Snowflake for Aiko 7 iRay textures

    4. The Guy 7 with the Guy 7 iRay textures

    5. G3M with Eddie 3DL textures converted to iRay by the Ueber iRay preset
