Reasons you are thankful for Daz

Obvious ones:
Free stuff. Lots of free stuff. If I had no money at all to spend on this stuff? I'd still have a renderer, a pile of content, and the ability to bring in even more content from all over the net.
Return policy. RETURN POLICY. Seriously, I've hit a number of things that I just didn't end up liking, and customer service has been awesome about it. Almost every other store (online or off) I've ever had to deal with has not been nearly so accommodating.
Getting free things doesn't require a card. Seriously. Almost every other online store (APPLE!!!) requires you to punch in all this information before letting you get the FREE THING. Credit card info? But I'm not buying anything! Not Daz, Daz is totes cool.
Community. I've had my... issues, at times, with people on the forum, but this is the last forum I actually frequent. I mean, heck, look at any gaming forum larger than 100 people. Shudder.
So, why are you grateful for Daz?

Comments
For giving me a new avenue of creativity. Without DAZ Studio being free to try, I'd almost certainly never have tried my hand at 3D. Now I'm still enjoying it, still learning every day, years after my first efforts.
For the ability to learn a wjole new medium of self expression ( I wont call what I produce "art" just yet) in a relatively inexpensive way. Also for this community of people. We are all different levels of skill and experience and come from all different walks of life but we get in here and give advice, support and sometimes some seriously unvarnished opinions to each other. Its a good thing.
It was Daz that got me back into 3D, I'd previuosly dabbled with 3D on my Amiga, using a program called Imagine. Then PC's came along and I dropped digital 3D then.
The main reason I became re-interested was because of Daz Studio and the weekly freebies. Yep I took the bait and become well and trully hooked.
Oh yeah, bringing me back, too. I gave up on 3D artwork 12+ years ago, because I just couldn't keep up with the costs, and my best efforts were tiny little pictures.
My father passed away almost 2 years ago, and one of the many things that preyed on me was that he was a creative person, played the piano, and so on... and he just seemed to give up at some point and coast through life. All this promise, all this hope, and... squandered, for one reason or another.
And I looked at myself.
Thank you, Daz.
I'm thankful for the relatively easy learning curve. Started learning Daz over the summer and I've found that Daz is very easy to dive into. Now if only Daz would add a physics option (like Optitex's Wind tool, that'd be a dream) I'd be thrilled.
Also this forum is very helpful so I'm thankful for that too.
for my best career move ;)
What I am thankful for with DAZ is the ability to learn 3D modeling in a very easy software package. I have Poser and have tried to learn it, but to no avail, I just cannot grasp it. The controls, in my mind, are so hard to learn and use. DAZ software interface is so easy to use and makes sense, even though I still have a lot to learn.
I am thankful that Daz continues to upgrade the program and continues to give it to us for free!
I am thankful that they provide the forums to meet likeminded people and enable tremendous fun wiith forum-member-sponsored contests like RRRR.
And of course the freebies!
I agree with all of the above. Fantastic community, so wiling to share knowledge, time and stuff. The program itself, I was beyond thrilled to find out it was free which made it possible for me to try it. The PA's who make really really cool stuff.
OK, enough of the mutual admiration society.
I'm thankful that DAZ has made the product so complicated that I've lost interest in the latest technology and models, and I'm thankful that the modelers have reduced their production of old tech models. It's saved me a lot of money, time and grief.
However, I do find the forumites to be helpful, literate, responsive, fun, and funny. Moreso than any other forum I've frequented.
I am just the opposite, I rarely d/l any free items, and I never even think about the return opolicy as an option (returned one item due to not working correctly) I do like the community though, can usually find answers when i have a question on something 3D related
I am thankful for the ease of use and streamlining my workflow. I started with poser and remember all to well having to use morphing clothes and crossdresser on EACH and EVERY piece of clothing with EACH custom figure. Genesis blew that system out of the water and I can't even imagine going back to that system now. Hoping this new DAZ "connect" BS doesn't ruin it all for me.
Greetings,
@LeatherGryphon - There's plenty of complaint threads; I'm grateful there's a thread oriented towards the positive.
I find myself thankful for the ability to conceive of a scene, and produce a reasonable facsimile in a few hours. I am thankful for DAZ's continued efforts to improve their products, both content and construction.
I am specifically currently thankful for Iray and the G3 facial shaping system!
For the store, I have to concur...return policy, return policy, return policy. It's not something I use often, but knowing it's there lets me buy comfortably. The PA's are also generally great, positive, and generous folks, which makes it a pleasure to support them as well.

One of my first purchases was something that turned out to have been included from DS 3 or so onward, so I had basically bought something completely useless. If I had been unable to return it easily, that would have left a rather sour taste in my mouth!
I was also happy to be able to return Reality when I set up a simple scene and found after 14 hours it still looked like line noise.
As for free stuff... I like the freedom to go all over the place, and some REALLY GOOD CONTENT turns out to be free (Wilmap alone, sheesh! A treasure!).
But I've happily plonked down a lot of money -- pretty much my entire luxury budget goes to Daz.
I really appreciate there willingness to allow people to create art using their program for free. And I also appreciate how much they work to improve their products. I really appreciate it.
Everything I know about 2D & 3D I learnt from playing at Daz (Back in the day, behind the platinum curtain...) For that I'm grateful to Daz, but mostly I'm grateful to the people who interacted with me there.
I'm really enjoying learning how to use Daz Studio 4.8 since there is documentation and tutorials now I finally understand how it works and the beautiful IRAY reflections and I cannot believe all that is FREE!
I'm super grateful to the people, including Daz, who take time to create tutorials, for free, and then post them on youtube or on their websites.
I'm thankful for the friends I've never met. I will never forget Jaderail (and am so sad the newbies will never benefit from any new input from him) and how friends, many who he never met, came together when he died and sent money to his family, and who grieved all over the world. And I miss Wancow, too. Friends made here are invaluable. I'm thankful for the help they give when I'm stuck, which is often, and the PAs who bother to come onto the forum and assist us too.
I'm thankful for the fast response by the support team (kudos to Britney, Crissy, etc) and for the discounts which DAZ does not have to offer- and the deep discounts. I'm thankful for all the work the Platinum Club team does, and those vendors. Appreciate you!
I'm thankful for the Mods and Admins. They sure put in a lot of time and effort, and it's often a thankless job. They try hard to please people, and you can't always do that.
And therefore it is DAZ that has to thank you and not vice versa, since it is you and people like you (and me in the past) who made possible for DAZ people to live in a house and not under a bridge, homeless.
In the real world, for those not suffering from Stockholm Syndrome, it is the one who gets the money who has to say "thank you", not the one who has opened the wallet.
It's not the happy ones who are thankful, but the thankful ones are happy. I appreciate this thread and I have already put some money into this and I am willing to do more so as since one year this is a hobby that has mady my life so much richer. The money I spend here I spend without remorse. I can chime with the others that I am thankful, and happy
Well, I can't says its free. There are 2 obvious ways to see it:
- at the beggining, you need so much things to do the job, that it is not so free. And you are lost in the generation thing (V4?G1?G2?G3?...) I started one year ago exactly. knowing absolutely nothing. I had to spend, yes. not that much, but quickly you becom dazhaolic ;-)
- after one year, yes, the free/not expensive thing shines. a lot. This youear, I got the mega V4 bundle for free, the M4 also, many super cheap things. annual sales. plus the PC card at 50USD wich gave me a LOT of things (used all mycoupons, sometimes gave me new things for free). Now I know how and when to buy. With a very reasonable budget, you can achieve a lot.
After a year, I've learn a lot of thing about 3D, got some nice images with the pride of having done them by myself ;-)
So, thank you DAZ
The easy entry into the 3D world thru the DAZ Studio UI.
What a sad point of view- people who give you stacking sales, allow you to return products without question, and only last week- vendors who give you a HUGE discount even though it's an error and they say "Oh well, happy holidays!" OWE YOU THANKS? Get a grip pal, the real world is to have gratitude for that.
I never would have ventured into 3D work without my early introduction to the "trinity"; Bryce, Poser and Studio and after that I just wanted to learn all I could about digital 3D.
"Real world"? "Stockholm Syndrome"? Really?
I'm sure DAZ is thankful for having paying customers, but I don't see how that means we can't be thankful for the incredible service they provide and everything else they do for us. I know they do this to make money, but they could probably make as much or more without being as nice as they are.
It's impossible to make everybody happy, but I'm thankful that they keep trying.
I used 3D software long before Poser came out, and used Poser long before DAZ Studio (my oldest version of Poser is a beta for version 1), and DAZ Studio is the first software that was pure fun from the start.
I'm thankful for being able to stop in here every morning before work and see what incredible items have arrived. Not every day holds an item I'm intersted in, but I still enjoy seeing the art that's been created each day.
I'm at work early again, so I don't sign in for another hour... I'm grateful that I've got DAZ Studio installed so that I can use the next hour using it.

Oh I almost forgot - I'm really really thankful for the "It's raining men" thread ... such wonderful renders!
Thanks to DAZ, I have a hobby and I enjoy it. I'm very thankful for that. There has been a great evolution between Michael1/Victoria1 and M7/V7 and I'm happy that the DAZ figures are still there on the market. For my part, I think Michael 7 is awesome
Thank you DAZ.
I don't think it's all one way or another, it's a partnership.
When a business provides a great service that makes me feel good about shopping there, I am thankful for them. Because there are plenty of examples of businesses that do NOT provide great service and that I grudgingly shop at anyway, because I don't have any other decent options.
If Daz were skeevy con artists just barely staying on this side of the law and engaging in the most 'rook the customer' activities, I'd still feel compelled to do SOME business with them. And one might argue they might make as much or more money... it's hard to know for sure. But I'm thankful that they embrace a more positive business model.
In a similar way, I'm very grateful that there's a really nice sushi restaurant down the street that has reasonable prices. They don't 'owe me' and I don't feel like I've gotten some huge gift... but I'm thankful they are there, I am thankful they provide good service. Because hey, where I used to live I had to drive 45 minutes to get good sushi.
To sum up, by saying 'I'm thankful,' I'm not saying I owe them or they've done some great charitable work in their business.
I am now retired but thanks to Daz I have a hobby I love and am able to use my creativity in making free clothing and things which I love to do.
Also the friendliness and helpfullness of the people on the forums, especially those like Jaderail and Wancow who are missed so much now they are gone.
A great customer service, mods to regulate the forums and lots of great products.
i'm thankful for Gianni6 and all the wonderful daydream fantasies he brings me.

I'm thankful to Daz for helping to keep my whites, white and not fading my colors as well as helping to get the blood stains out of my pantomime polar bear costume... Wait... Oh... DAZ 3D, not the detergent powder.... Okay... I gotta have something... I know, of course I do...
Even though I used Poser and Bryce way before I ever knew DAZ existed (maybe they were still Zygote then?)... DAZ was the first to really give me a community to learn from and to interact with... I found DAZ looking to buy a newer version of Bryce, but instead I found a whole new program and more... And oddly enough it was free... FREE? I actually thought it was a scam or gimmick, but eventually I looked into it and found out it was legit... Seven years later I'm still learning and DAZ Studio is still free and even though I frequently will complain about stuff I don't agree with, it's because I care about the software and community.
That and I'm thankful for that delicious Boston Creme donut that fell out of the sky yesterday... Some people may say a squirrel dropped it, but I like to think that DAZ somehow sent it to me because they are that cool and knew I was craving a donut at the moment... I only wish it had less fur in the frosting, but hey, it was tasty none the less...Thanks DAZ!
Much of what has already been said applies to me. Free software? Check. Tons of specific content? Check. Deep discounts if you're patient and wait for it? Check. One of the best moderated online forums on the net? double and triple check! Thanks to DAZ, the PAs and the CVs.
I got into 3D because I lack the basic artistic talent that my father had and my oldest daughter has. My father painted in oils and sculpted in wood. My daughter has an MFA in Illustration. Me? I couldn't draw my way out of a paper bag. Heck, I couldn't even draw the paper bag! The main reason I avoid postwork is because I'm terrible at it, unless it's only using an eraser brush or a clone brush on those pesky fireflies. Maybe McGyver can make us a flit gun that will banish those pesky fireflies...
