I read somewhere that is what actually killed Genghis Khan... Or falling off a horse... Or wounds received in battle... Or possibly bunny rabbit bites... But nail polish poisoning was probably the chief cause of death... That and all the arrows in his heart.

Not being a native english speaker I have no idea what that is, so please forgive me this. Wouldn't it be twice as bad if you had stereo?

Mono is mononucleosis is a virus.  A pretty bad one that completely saps your energy and can take anywhere from several days to a couple months to recover.  The whole time you have extreme fatique, loss of appetite and a whole slew of other symptoms.  I'm betting that RCDeschene is feeling pretty miserable.

We call it glandular fever in Australia and it is often caught by kissing someone with it,

if you take anibiotics you get a very spotty rash as my brother found out and possibly me, I was never diagnosed just was very ill and got the rash taking antibiotics soon after he had it, no did not kiss him

How can I be ignorant about something if I don't know about it.... Do trees make noise when falling while nobody hears it?

And I've learned something today too. That's a condition I give my fullest sympathies for.

    Thanks. XuX

(and apparently there are a lot of happy people out there!) surprise

    What am I ignorant about?

The source of your happiness apparently. wink

Trees cause vibrations when they fall but without a consciousness nearby to sense and interpret the vibrations as noise then "no" they're just vibrations.  It's the same as a meteor falling onto Mars.  No people, no consciousness, no noise, just vibrations.

Similarly there are no colors in the world.  Just various frequencies of electromagnetic radiation.  Without a consciousness to sense and interpret the vibrations as color, they're just vibrations.   In fact there is no way that you can convince me that what you see as the color "red" is the same thing that I see as the color "red".  Some people are born with the four types of color sensors (cones) in the eye instead of just three.  They see the same frequencies we "normal" people do but can interpret them into many more subtle variations and combinations of colors that we color challenged "normal" humans can never experience.  I believe this is an excellent explanation for why some people report being able to see "auras".

"Noise" and "color" are abstract mental constructs of consciousness, as are "pain", "stink" and "sour".  The whole point of this question about trees falling in the forest is to help one discover the role of consciousness in the reality of the universe.

Trees are very proper and upstanding, but trust me, if they fall when no one is around to hear they curse like longshoremen.  (Longshoremen, ironically, never curse when they fall.)

Not all trees are proper and upstanding.  Some fall down on the job and are rather bent.  Comes, I think, of indulging in too much fermented coconut milk.

If a lazy tree vibrates in the forest, is it still lazy or in fact industrially vibrating in vain hope of a nearby sentient, or near sentient, longshoreman?

We call it glandular fever here too. I had it in my early twenties, got it the "traditional" way (ie kissing). Bloody horrid it was. It'd take me half an hour to walk the hundred metres or so to the bus stop, by which time I was completely drained. Took months to fully recover.

Oh, and when trees know there's nobody listening, they rustle Coldplay tunes in their leaves.

I went to a nail salon to get my polish off.  At first they said it would be three or four dollars but after I explained it was just normal polish they gave me a cotton ball of acetone so I can remove the polish for free.

  • I noticed this in the daily Daz e-mail I got. Poor Arabella looks like she's had a hard time of it. laugh

What's widely regarded as one of the *WORST* movies ever produced was "The Conqueror" starring John Wayne as Temujin, The Perfect Warrior, AKA Genghis Kahn. Howard Hughes produced it, then bought up all the copies of it and it sat in his vaults until after his death. Maybe reading the reviews of The Conqueror is what killed Genghis Kahn...

I think OS 10.11 messed up something with USB power managment.

If that's what happened you heard it here first!

How abandoned does an abandoned thread have to become before it is declared totally derelict?
