Then you are missing something...have you installed ALL the Genesis, Genesis 2, Genesis 3 Starter Essentials and the Lights and Shaders packages?

Hmmm, maybe I missed the lights and shaders packages. That's probably what's wrong. On the other hand, I've had some recent items that appeared to have installed, according to DIM, but didn't show up in the content library or smart content. That could be the problem, too. A re-install of the no-show items fixed it. Either way, it looks like I've got to install or re-install the  needed stuff. Thanks for the help.

Ok, reinstallking didn't make any difference. If I right-click on Surface and select Browse to Category Location, a folder named Shaders/Src opens. Within it is a folder named Renderman Companion, and inside that folder are Blue_Marble.dzs, Blue_Marble_Mod.dzs, Checker.dzs, and Glow.dzs. I'm assuming that these are the shaders I should be seeing in the Shader Builder pane. If I try to drag them into the pane, I get a plus sign like it should import, but nothing happens. At least I think I've found the shaders; just not sure how to make them cooperate.

Yeah, the dzs files are the uncompiled ones...hmm.  Where are they actually located?

  • Go to renderosity and check the free downloads section there are two I remember one is 3dc and the other is simon.

AppData/Roaming/Daz 3D/Studio/ShaderBuilder/Shaders/Src/Surface/Renderman Companion Is there some other place I should find the useable files? I'm wondering if I should download them manually and do a manual install. Maybe something is getting messed up during the DIM install.

That's where they should be...now why they aren't being recognized, I'm not sure.  I'm wondering if it may be a permissions thing with Windows 'protecting' that folder.

That was it! I right-clicked on the icon for Studio, and selected Run as Administrator. The shaders are showing now. Thanks. Now I can give the tutorial a try.

Well..the run as Admin was going to be my next suggestion...

Even after shutting down Studio and re-starting it, the shaders are showing now. Now that I think about it, I remember having some issues authorizing some music plugins before; my host had to be run as admin to do the authorization. I wonder if this could be why occasionally some content I've installed doesn't show up?

Yeah, that could be a reason...

I tried a few test renders with a sphere and they came out just fine. I've got a render going now that I wanted to use this effect in. It might be done before I hit the sack. Otherwise, I'll have to wait until morning. I'll need to explore the Shader Builder more this weekend...if my wife doesn't have me tied up. wink
