How to set object position so that it rotates in place?

February 2023 in Blender Discussion

Hi,

I had purchased the Suburban Planning Kit (street sections) from TurboSquid quite some time ago, and I do have a problem with it.  Every time I rotate a piece, it does not rotate in place, and I believe it has to do with how the object position is set.  How do I set an object's positio so that it rotates in place instead of doing a full circle away from the originating area?

And by the way, I imported the items into Blender as FBX files.

    Different methods.

You can select the object, and set origin to geometry. Then it will rotate around the new origin.

Or in edit mode select all, or around the point where you want the point to rotate around. Then snap 3d cursor to selected. Then back in object mode, set transform pivot point to 3d cursor, and it will rotate around that.

Method 2 keeps the original origin, while method 1 changes your origin.
