    Hello,

What's this Public Build Install Modules package? Should I install it? I have the Public Builds for both versions 4.X and 6 (2025) installed and I'm keeping them up to date. Although admittedly, I don't give the Public Builds barely any use at the moment.

It's an update for DS to help DS 2025 manage content, I believe.

All right, thanks. In that case, I'll install it.

Modules are a series of associated products which can be selected for instalaltion in one go - you will probably have already seen the non-beta one for Daz Studio, which will install the application, the plug-ins, and the free content. This adds a similar one step option for the 2025 alpha and its parts.

I see. That's interesting. I can't recall seeing one of this modules before, though. But I remember changing the download filters in DIM fews days ago, after seeing a recommendation about the filters that should be checked off for the Install Manager to retrieve the Daz 2025 Alpha from the servers. So my guess is that whatever changes I did in DIM then have made this module package appear and be available for download and install. :)

It's the first time a new set was added since the originals, in order to avoid (or at least try to reduce) the issues people were having with finding the alpha.

    Installation

    • In Install Manager, if you filter using sku::109051, you should see a package labeled Public Build Install Modules
      • When installed, this package causes an Install Modules > Public Build... action to appear in the Settings (cog - top right) menu of Install Manager
        • Clicking the action will cause a Public Builds Install Sets dialog to appear
          • Much like the Default Install Set, this dialog provides options for a specific subset of packages to download/install - in a "playlist" like manner
          • There are Install Sets for Daz Studio 2025 (6.x) Public Build, as well as Daz Studio 4.x Public Build

Thanks for all the information, Richard. smiley

Is it needed if you aren't using the Alpha and don't plan to?

No, it is a convenience for those who do intend to install the DS 2025 betas.

or the DS 4.23.1.x betas, though I don't think we have official word on whether those will continue in parallel with 2025.

Little bird says yes, at least to a degree, until DS 2025 reaches a General release status.

I found the below in my Product Updates when I went to download new purchases this afternoon from DIM. I have never seen this before for any product.

In my experience, product updates in DIM can appear either because the product actually got updated for some reason or because I previously installed it manually. The readme document for that product does not say anything about the product receiving any recent revisions, though.

What in that screenshot is what you haven't seen before? It looks normal to me.

Look at the blue line at the top of the image. There is a box, a thumbnail, then no name, the is at an angle, and 0 bytes. I tried clicking the i but there was no readme according to a pop-up. The larger pop-up was what I saw when I moved my mouse over the little thumbnail. I know this product, it has had issues in the past that I am not sure were ever resolved or not. I had an outstanding ticket on it years ago.

Thanks for the explanation. Now I can see what you are referring to.

It's sadly doesn't mean anything: I have a couple of products who were updated through DIM but without any information about what the updates were supposed to fix.

I see, I didnt' know that. :) In the time I've been using DIM for installing/uninstalling products, I've already got several actual product updates, but I don't think I've ever checked the Readme of the updated product with the hope of learning what the update was for. My mindset was like: "Hmm... an update. Updated products are (almost) always better, right? Let's go with it". laugh

Sometimes it's just a metadata update to go along with the recent release version or beta of DS, or it was fixing or adding in metadata.

Yesterday another product showed up, looked okay but failed when I tried to install it. After three tries to install, after installing my new products, I tried refreshing DIM's link to Daz and the 'update' had disappeared. Is something going on with updates? I did updates on another computer and this product and the other one I posted about did not show up as having an update available.

Just a note: as I was getting ready to post, cloudfare kicked in. It has been the longest one in a long time.
