How to go back to 4.7 from 4.8

Can anyone tell me how to revert back to the previous version of DS?  I currently have 4.8 and have not been able to make any renders, or in fact even pose a character without the program crashing my computer.  I've tried several of the suggestions found in the forums to fix the issue and nothing has worked.  I figure my best bet at this point is just putting it back to the last version that actually worked for me.  Thank you =)

Unless you have made a backup copy of the installer for 4.7, I'm afraid that it's not possible to go back.

  • Well, that sucks.  Thanks.

What preview settings are you using for posing, etc? If you are using Iray preview, this can crash your system pretty thorughly once you start posing around.

  • I was using 3Delight, thinking it was Iray that my computer couldn't handle.  I'm guessing now my computer just can't handle 4.8 in general.

    What are your system specs?

Have you tried installing the 32 bit version, does that work? It doesn't have the ntire Iray shenanningans, as it is purely 3Delight, like 4.7.

Also, is it possible that you installed the new version while DS was still running? It might be neccessary that you will have to clean out everything from the program and the settings folder, and then install DS 4.8 fresh again.

    My system specs are:

    • Win 10
    • AMDfx-8350 Eight-Core Processor
    • 32 GB Ram
    • 64 Bit
    • NVIDIA GeForce GTX 560 (fully updated)
    • She's not overclocked (checked earlier today for that one)

Painfully, I am as tech savvy as a monkey.  The occasional ear peircing scream, a bunch of kicking and and fist swinging, and the occasional flung poop are my ideas of fixing anything computer realted (Not litteral poop mind you, but I do spew the word Sh#@ often).  With that being said I hadn't even thought of trying the two suggestions you offered, so I will do that ASAP.  Thank you very much for the suggestions I'll let you know if they work.

Also, thank you JohnDelaquiox for your link I will certainly be following that!  smiley

Win 10 might be the culprit. There's a thread where some people discribe similar crashes: http://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/60598/windows-10-and-daz-4-8-pro/p1

    and http://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/59797/how-is-daz-studio-doing-with-windows-10/p1

Most people seem to have no problem with DS and Win10, but for some, it's causing crashes.

  • I find this odd, we almost have the same system. Win7 64bit, FX-8350 (stock clocks), 32GB ram, NVIDIA GT 730 (4GB), and Studio 4.6 32bit, 4.7 64bit, and 4.8 64bit Beta.

I'm in a bit of a bind myself, as I never downloaded a 32bit ver of 4.7 to migrate to for testing. (I can not stress that "For Testing" bit enough, lol).

I have a sneeking suspicion about the crashing, lol. Windows 8 and later, use the Graphics card heavily for the 'Desktop', plus whatever Studio is using for the OpenGL viewfield (Or Iray mode if your using that). The combo of both the Desktop and the viewfield heavily loading the GPU may have some possible unexpected (I'm not sure what the word is) with the Graphics driver, causing some glitches with the use of multiple modes at the same time. Especially with One using ActiveX, and the other using OpenGL/Iray. I have experienced it in the past with games in 'windowed mode' rather then full screen, with another program also running in a different mode (Quake vs Worldcraft, many years ago).

I'm not taking the win10 plunge myself, I need a real desktop, and I need a real taskbar with a 'Program list' menu. And I especially need the use of more then one monitor. Faking it with Windows blinds just doesn't do it for me. I'm using a real computer, not a cell-phone, lol.

Should be DirectX, not ActiveX. smiley

I would say that's a driver problem, since Windows 10 is using a new driver model. Unfortunately, until NVIDIA update their drivers, there's really nothing you can do about it.

Nvidia and Windows 10 have been in sync since the beginning of August.

I had a problem the other day with the 32 and 64 bit versions DAZ Studio.  I had checked off what I wanted (clothes) in Install Manager, and when it was happily installing, my parakeet jumped off my shoulder and landed on my keyboard, pressing the magic combination of keys to install both 32 and 64 bit versions of D/S simultaneously.  Needless to say I received many error messages after I chased the bird away.  I had to uninstall and reinstall D/S but got it to work.

Hmm... this really can't be counted as a PEBKAC error, perhaps PCBRP (Problem Caused By Rambunctious Parakeet).

  • Well, uninstalled everything and put it back and it still crashes.  Uninstalled again and manually reinstalled the 32bit version, it doesn't crash my computer, but the program itself still crashes.  I'm not sure if it's the win10 or not, it was doing it before when I had the win8 installed.  In fact, that was why I went ahead with the win10 for some reason I was thinking it might actually help the situation.

Have you tried filing a helpdesk ticket? DAZ is usually very good at sticking with a person until a fix is found.  If you already have done so, I apologize.  I can imagine how frustrating it must be!

  • The help ticket is my last step.  I am very grateful to everyone giving advice, if nothing else then I'm at least a bit more knowledgeable about the program and my own computer.

    Thank you!wink
