Shadows

Shadows are an inportant part of any render but the shadow tab in the light pane appears to be inactive. Can anyone tell me what I have to do to have control over the shadow settings, working with DAZ 4.8 and windows 7

    It is only innactive if you are using Iray as the render engine.

    Switch to 3Delight in the render settings pane to bring it back.   Iray always uses shadows, I don;t believe that you can switch them off as they imitate real life scenes.

    If you are wanting to use Iray, you can control shadows by using Interactive mode (the default is Photoreal).  It's also possible to set, on an object-by-object basis, what casts shadows. 

    In Interactive mode Iray still uses the same lights and materials, but the realism isn't the same because of the lack of accurate shadows. You can control shadow detail using various new settings available when in this mode. Here's a quick comparison between Photoreal and Interactive:
