More of a revamped Stephanie than an Olympia.

  • ToyenToyen Posts: 2,029

I don´t think she is here to replace Olympia.

Bethany is pure curvy, Olympia is more curvy-athletic.

So hopefully we will see Olympia return, she was one of my favorites BUT please now Michael 7! : )

I wouldn't have a lot of expectation that most characters would return each generation. I think certain names are truly Iconic daz brands (such as vickie, stephanie, Micheal and Aiko) and they will re-release/revamp them each year/generation.  You can already see from this generation they have introduced 2 new names in about 2 weeks time. I think the next two figures will tell us what we can expect going forward(and their cadence too...be mindful of that buyers).

So, is this the G3 version of Olympia!?

Is it? Olympia looks more...not sure of the right word...less curvy?

Looks like a gym advertisement for before and after, LOL

Definitely NOT on my buy list, but I am glad for the others that have a need for a full figured model

Why is the promo art always so amber tinged?

Small amounts of pear shape works wonders when needed. As do weight morphs *chuckles*. So for me, she doesn't fill any imaginary void.

I'm actually starting to wonder about the whole process of packaging pro packs around a shape(when they are supposed to be figures with personalities). Some content creators have argued the bundles should include content to really show how the characters are unique, but I didn't see anything like that for Beth. Probably not permitted to put sterotypical stuff in a girls package...like aprons and food props.

Or maybe it's because Beth doesn't really have anything unique going on. Like I totally was sold on Lilith, and she had a ton of demonic fantasy stuff that made perfect sense(even though I opted not to get the bundles). And Aiko gets all "anime" outfits. Makes sense.

Guess I need to read the product page to find how who Beth is.

    Probably the promo lighting.

Yeah I wrote about this in the other thread, Daz should not make all the promos under the same lighting, then all the skins get similar tint.

I think Eva and Beth were rendered under the same/very similar lighting conditions.

Yes makes it hard to tell just what the actual textures colouring is. I think in the iray promo's its a case of the Subsurface is too high and exaggerating the skin's hue and saturation. I know the 3delight promos used Uber Environment with amber/golden ambiance (At least according to Jarred's video on Gia). But looking at V7's iray surfaces the subsurface was really heavy and making the character allot darker than its supposed to be.

I think there is a high need for neutral lighting in character promos. Half the sales for characters are surly for their textures. Its far greater in that respect for me.

OK I read Beth's page, she doesn't have a personality, so it wasn't me. Olympia and Lilith for example are personalities and their product pages define them well. Beth is just a shape and that is all they talk about on her product page.

    Olympia's page

Olympia is the perfect go to character for everything from pin-up art to fantasy scenes. She can be a Greek goddess, or a jungle queen.

    Lilith

Whether you're rendering pin-up photoshoots, epic fantasy battles or brooding, demonic scenes, Lilith makes the perfect character.

Beth doesn't get any descriptor like this.

Olympia and Beth overlap in Daz physical descriptions a lot (hour glass, soft feminine, etc) but Olympia wasn't soft at all compared to Beth. Olympia is soft compared to Conan, which works well for her.

Nothing but respect for Beth's shape. But she shows you don't need to put sterotypical stuff in a character's bundle to call out what makes them unique.

And of course I know you don't have to use the Daz shapes in any defined role. It's just marketing to encourage sales. But I think in light of recent discussions it's all relevant :)

She's glorious, love her body and her face, usually I like one or the other.  The best add-on Daz has released since Steph 4 I think.  And I rarely used Steph 4 even though I loved her 'cause fitting clothes to her was such a pita.  Don't have that problem with Bethany, the auto morphing works pretty well on this one 'cause she's smooth.

Love Beth so far she is the most realistic to me of the new shapes. Too bad she must go on my wish list at this time.

Character-shape is okay, skin tone and lighting reminds me too much of Victoria 7-unattractive and sallow. . Definitely a downgrade since Victoria 6 promo art. clothing in content bundle I would not use, hair is good. I'm passing for now.

Not likely to pick up the Pro Bundle.  The starter bundle... maybe.  The girl herself - yes, though maybe not as soon as I'd like. (as always, I'm low on funds.  If I hadn't bought the Rune Bundle... but I can use Rune, and Bethany's a "just because I like her" purchase at the moment, so I'm not upset about it.)

The new FW character that comes in the Pro Bundle is a must buy for me, if only because I've been wanting skins like that for a while.

  • Oso3DOso3D Posts: 15,085

Bethany is really really nice. I have no plans on going G3 anytime soon, but if/whenever I do so, she's definitely something I want.

Thanks for this shape DAZ, really great that you're adding some variety to gen7. Please keep at it! laughlaughlaugh

That being said, I really wonder why this shape is released a mere 2 weeks after Victoria 7b. I am completely broke and I wouldn't be surprised if that goes for everyone else as well. Do you believe you can get us tap into out food-fund with this? But if that's the case and if it's true that only white super-models really sell then why not release her as the follow-up instead of the 'risky' shape?

Do you not want to sell Bethany? Or is this some kind of marketing trick I don't get?

...or maybe they just simply don't follow any strategy. Not sure which is better.

She has an interesting face and one which could lend itself to many different eras/genres. I guess one could describe the body as, dare I say it, Rubenesque, so she'll fit in nicely with classical stuff. She, like Olympia, isn't one that screams 'buy' to me and I'd get her if there was an offer on similar to the last one for Olympia.

Is this Daz doing diversity like we talked about in the Eva7 thread, mmmm, could be a start...

    CHEERS!

No, se's something entirely different.  When we went mor full figured with Olympia, there were a lot of folks who wished we had taken it even further.  That's Bethany.  But for those of you who love Olympia (myself included!!) she's still in the works on Genesis 3.

What about Michael 7? Will there be many more female releases before he is out?

I say wait two weeks and you may or may not have an answer. Or 3 weeks maybe. perhaps the turnaround time has increased even over what we saw at the end of G2.

I would merge posts. but can't delete one so oh well.

It really does seem odd to be getting a new base shape so quickly after the last one. The only possible explanation I can think of is that there was so much grousing over the previous two bases being released so late in the month that the Powers That Be decided to release this one at the beginning of the month and see if people liked that scheduling better.

It *will* have me cashing in my PC+ coupon much earlier in the month rather than hanging onto it on spec. Like this base (but then, I always like the base)

Once again there isn't a single outfit that I'd download in the bundles. But I do like the characters and hair. Particularly AprilYsh's new hair.

I like her, but to be honest a person that voluptuous would have some plumpness on her face as well.  Looks a bit mismatched.

  • This is a good move by Daz as there appears to be a demand for characters with closer to the shape of the modern woman.

K'm curious to see who the new G2M  character is that was mentioned recently. Should be about 4 of 5 weeks to go.

If I do pick up the Starter Bundle (It should still be on sale come the 15th, right?  I'll just miss all the "Owners of Bethany Get X bonus discount" sales)  I might make a new generation Self Portrait.  The current one uses Genesis and Stephanie 5, and loath though I am to admit it, Bethany's body shape matches my own a lot more than probably any other character in the store...  :)

I don't know DaWaterRat, lol. This morning the links to the bundle were broken, and the sale was giving the proper discounts.

Now the links are working, and the new stuff discounts are not. not even a beth and a "save on new releases" thing is wotrking, lol.
