...so can you use skydomes with the Iray sun in interactive mode?
Not been very pleased with results from many of the free HDRIs I've downloaded and don't see spending 30$ - 100$ for a single high resolution/quality HDRI sky a cost effective solution.
You're welcome! And that's Tobor - robot spelled backwards. (Okay, it's a 50s thing.)
I remember someone saying that you can use the 'clouds-only' skydomes from this set (https://www.daz3d.com/ultimo-paradiso) with the Iray Sun-Sky settings because its basically a skydome transparency map with some clouds on it. This way the clouds actually cast realistic shadows on the ground as well, apparently. I haven't tried it myself because I don't have this set yet, but maybe more transparency skydomes like this would be the answer for Iray clouds?
...I remember the film. Tobor the Great.
Interesting in in that he was essentially designed to be robotic explorer in effect foreshadowing what NASA has been doing for the last several decades.
OK, back to Iray stuff...
I'd like to see ATI support . . . (fat chance, I know!)
I'd like an easy way to see the hdri map that it's using so you can position it better. Changing degrees is only useful if you know how things are already.
What about good tutorials? Prefer tutorials over new same content over and over again.
This is exactly my issue. Everyso often, I spend a few hours wrestling with downloaded HDRIs and all I seem to get is blurry grey skys. Fiddling with the dome parameters doesn't seem to make any difference. I'd love a turnkey solution to this problem, optimised for DAZ Studio - click on the preset and off you go.
Cheers,
Alex.
A very specific layered skin shader that is created just for rendering human skin so we would not have to use the default iray shader with tweaked settings.
I believe mental ray (another renderer by Nvidia) has a skin shader (at least the maya version) so it would be nice to see something like this for Iray as well.
If we had some kind of dynamic hair system in DS I´d also say hair shader but right now that is unnescessary.
I was just gonna ask for more hdri setups. these are a LOT of fun. I'd love a tool to make them from rendered sets....
Guess it's good old REALITY (lux) for me, then. (Shrugs.)
Pity. Iray could have been such a great renderer.
Oh dear. I'm so sorry Tobor! Or can I say Mr. Roboto??
It is a good renderer. However, it's not a make art button; you'll have to put in the work, especially when you are working with figures that have less support or don't directly have the items you need. But DS has the tools so you can convert it to what you need, so it's not like you're not able to use items to your benefit.
To add to male-M3dia's comment there is the iRay Uber Base. Click on it while holding down the Ctrl key on the keyboard to keep your texture safe and it will convert the 3Delight settings to iRay. Very simple. You can tweak to your hearts content after that and then save the scene out so you have it safe.
Grass-Shaders like the ones from AoA and DT or the one in tis video (
) would really be great in Iray. To get more back to the topic tile "What new Iray stuff do you hope to see?" I would also like to see "Look At my Hair" and/or "Garibaldi Express Hair System" for Iray.
If you have the disk space and bandwidth, you might try the HDRs from noemotionhdrs.net -- those are high resolution, and MASSIVE; 200MB at the low end and (so far) about 350MB at the high end. Also, free. They don't use backplates or a separate REF HDR, but they don't need them.
For the skin shader, have you tried http://www.daz3d.com/beautiful-skin-genesis-2-iray-bundle or is that not what you meant?
As far as hair shaders go, there are three separate products for hair shaders (non-dynamic) on the market now, two here (one as part of MEC4D's Unshaven) and one at Renderosity.
Hey there wrangler, no I meant a shader that is specifically created to simulate human skin that has unique parameters.
Here is Arnold´s skin shader for example - https://support.solidangle.com/display/AFMUG/Skin
As you can see, it has unique parameters such as 5 different layers and can also be used to create other things than skin.
If anyone were to come up with it, I think it would have to be Nvidia themselves or some kind of developer, don´t think PAs program these shaders.
...in PDF format.
Working on it frantically. Hang in there.
There is an Iray compliant version of LAMH on the way. Alessandro is testing it at the moment.
Cheers,
Alex.
...of course I had to go the Garibaldi route. So that means tonnes of polys to render.
I'd like to see Iray write convergence percentages to the log file, not just number of samples...would make checking things after the fact a lot better.
