I got the product but haven't had much time to play with it yet. Am I correct that it only works for characters using the base G2F UV, so it won't work for any of the Daz Characters (V6/Monique/Lilith etc) or is there a way to use them too, without having to go through a texture conversion? If so I'm hoping to see UVs for the iconic Daz G2F characters and V4. Not many of my characters seem to use the base UV.
Lilith, along with the skins on most DO base figures has its own UVs, so will not work with this. Only G2F base skins work with the product
This solves one of my major obstacles to moving to G3.
GenX2 for G3 would remove another, and THEN maybe I'll migrate. (Though I wonder how doable it is, given the bones and whatnot)
Geografts would still be a problem, but as it is I tend to use whichever Genesis has the geografts I need already, so that would just keep happening.
We do not know yet, you would need to ask the vendor. However since the first product is referred to as Volume 1, we can imply from that that further UVs will be supported in the future.
I would think not, but it seems that the vendor intends to do this with other legacy uv's. For now, you could transfer a V4 texture to G2F, and then use that on this product.
Yes, I suppose that is a work around.
Thanks.
As a two stage process it would. It isn't that difficult to convert V4 to G2F and if that is done in stages (V4 > Genesis then Genesis > G2F) you end up with a V4 skin in G2F format. Then you would convert THAT. The first part doesn't even need anything other than the built in tools in Studio and maybe V5.
...if you have a way to transfer Gen4 skins to G2, I imagine you could then transfer them with this utility to G3. Not sure it there would be any quality degradation though
The problem is that you'd be stretching the skin one way to go from V4 to G2, and then in a different way to go from G2 to G3, with the added complexity of having to match the all of edges to the geografted pieces. That's a lot of room for things to go wonky. In the short term, the best option for V4 to G3F would seem to be Blacksmith3D.
The Gen4 to G2 transition isn't that bad...on most skins. It may not pass a bikini closeup shot...but it is definitely good enough for everyday use. And some of the problem areas, like the back of the head/neck (an area I"ve had trouble with on some skins) are usually hidden by hair.
I am sure the vendor of the G2F UVs on G3F will do V4 if you are willing to wait. The product is top of the What's Hot list, so is clearly selling well, so the vendor has every reason to expand the list of supported UVs
I have purchased this product and tested it out. It does exactly as it says, and it's relatively easy to use, the easiest solution I've seen yet to the UV obstacle, so I'm thrilled.
In fact, I was so thrilled that I wrote to Cayman Studios saying so and asking if there would be further UV sets offered. He wrote back promptly and said that he is working on a set of geografts that will make application of V4 UVs to G3F possible. So fear not -- V4 UVs [via geograft] for G3F appear to be coming soon!

Some of the texture for other characters will apply with some problem areas. I could apply Lilith quite nicely but no mei Lin or Monique. Stephanie applied with a slight issue on the arm. Not a big deal if the character is clothed.
That is great news thanks for letting us know, I hope he is also working on UVs for G3M as well. There are very few male skins for Genesis 3 at the moment, and in a way, they need this technology even more than G3F
...yeah thought about that too afterwards, was just a thought. I'll wait to see what develops on this front as 57$ (for the base + add on) is a bit rich for my budget. Again, I have Skin Builder Pro for G2F as well so won't be hurting for textures.
...my characters are clothed (not with skimpwear) so yeah, any "problem areas" will probably be covered.
has anyone tried this product with G3M and G2M skins?
The script requires a G3F figure, and the product will only work correctly for applying skins that use the G2F base UV
I have skin builder too, is that the g2f base uv?
yes
Checking this out now lol
Is there a different product required? I bought t but get errors when close clicking on prepare g3f it says it's missing all these files and when it loads she's got cubes all over her
edit *found the issue I forgot to copy over a file
Sounds like files may be in the wrong location. Check your file installation paths and reinstall and reboot your daz studio.
I completely missed an entire folder when copying folders from the zip, playing with it now it seems to work great
Sadly skin builder doesn't work with this, it uses V5 UV maps :(
I hope with the success of this product to see more in this vein. I'm actually a bit surprised a pa here has not come up with a solution. I'm looking forward to the male version.
Hopefully it will come, I didn't realize how many venders used the G2F base uv's, that or V4 or V5, it's definitely worth the money
Thanks for the heads up, Havos
Did a test using the Cayman Studios' plugin using Sasha 7, Teen Josie 7 and Skyler. Bought the Sasha and Teen Josie 7 during the second day of the sale because I was happy with the results of my tests, which can't be posted here because of the TOS
This test can, though, and all the figures use V6 Anna skin, which comes with the Victoria 6 HD add-on. Rendered in Reality 4.1 with default settings.
...anyone tried porting over a skin made with Skin Builder Pro for G2F yet?
Skin builder uses the V5 UV's so sadly it doesn't work.
