Can someone explain me why DIM keeps installing to two different locations?

My documents, public, my daz library

    my documents, user/..../ my library

I just found my brand new Genesis 3 content in the first location, when I have specified in the DIM for these to be installed in the second location.

Would be very nice if you people would keep a single format for installing files and not install it where ever you see fit, despite having specified in the DIM to use 1 location (the second).

It looks like your install location got set back to the default.  I keep the "Show Details" checked in the "Ready to Install" tab to make sure the install path is set to where I want it.

This is exactly why I never wanted to use that DIM in the first place, but DAZ made that obligatory in order to install the 4.8 beta and public build...

I keep my PC clean of clutter and this isn't helping if I have to chase content being installed where I do not want it.

You don't have to install content with DIM to use the beta.  I'm not sure how your install location got switched -- I had that happen once in the early beta stage of DIM, but I haven't seen it happen since then.

It's been a few since I launched DIM, so I launch it, log in, and accept the EULA just fine, but now I'm getting this notification (attachment). I already have Studio and content installed, I don't want it installed a 2nd time.

    /edit
I went ahead and hit cancel, and it hasn't seemed to pop back up.

  • Hi all - I did a quick search for this question on the forums, but didn't come up with anything which looked relevant; if my question has been answered before, please can someone point me to the right thread?

My PC died recently and I ended up replacing a hard drive and doing a fresh install of DAZ Studio and DIM. All the DIM-ready stuff I have bought from the DAZ store has installed nicely with zero problems.  :)

I've been at this hobby for a (depressingly) long time though, and I've bought a lot of stuff from the DAZ Store in the past, and much of it predates DIM. I'm sure I can find all of them one at a time if I plough through my account downloads, but I wondered if anyone knows of a filter I can apply to my product library, or something I can do within DIM which will allow me to find them? I have 43 pages of products on my library list, with 30 products per page... finding the one's DIM hasn't installed by eyeball alone is making my tiny brain hurt.  o.-

Has anyone got any recommendations? ("Shoulda done a complete backup before the PC died" is one I've already been telling myself...)

    Thank you!  :D

I'm sorry but no there isn't a filter that I'm aware of you can use. DAZ has made most all packs compatible with DIM and should show up unless the packs are no longer active in the store.Do you have a backup of your old library on an external drive?

Actually there is a way to find non-DIM products in your Product Library - type this in the filter field:

    dim::false

You're very welcome - I picked it up in another thread some time ago, 'fraid I can't remember which one so couldn't link to it.

  • I am using this utility to intall my DAZ purchases to my Poser folder, but I see no thumbnails in the Poser library folders, just the ubiquitous shrugged shoulders icon, even though the item does install into the proper subfolders and it loads correctly into the scene window.

Is this a limitation of the installation routine or installation software?

If I install the same package, manually, into Poser, then all is well.

Thanks in advance for any helpful comments!!

  • What product? If it's a very old one it's possible it still uses.rsr thimbnails, though I thought everything had been updated.

I tried this and virtually all of them were old programs and plugins.  Howerver, there was one surprise; the M5 Pro Bundle! surprise

The only other content products are: The Machine,     http://www.daz3d.com/the-machine

and CP Pearl's Beaty Parlor,   http://www.daz3d.com/cs-pearl-s-beauty-parlor

All of these have  Zip files in my Content Library.  I'm not at my render machine, so I can't say if they show up in DIM...

  • fixmypcmikefixmypcmike Posts: 19,682

Most of the ones I see are bundles, because DIM only shows the individual component products, not the bundle itself, as there is no zip for the combined bundle.  Bundles, old software and plugins, and tutorials.

For me it's the machine (not in DIM) and Jewels of Architecture Vol. 1 http://www.daz3d.com/jewels-of-architecture-volume-1 (not in DIM)

Jewels of Architecture Vol2 and the SE Orientalia Vol.1 are in DIM ...

I can't get the install manager http://www.daz3d.com/get_install_manager/ is not working which is where all the links send me to get it.

  • That may well be related to the problems with downloads, but I will flag it up in case it isn't.

I'm also unable to download the Install Manager. Does anyone have a link to it outside the Daz web site? (Assuming that's not a taboo.)

  • ChoholeChohole Posts: 33,604

It is indeed Taboo, the only place to download it is at Daz 3d.

  • I also am unable to download the install manager from daz site, or update through my currently installed version 1.0.1.108. Many of my downloads refuse to complete as well.

  • ChoholeChohole Posts: 33,604

Can you please mention it in this thread, as it ios being Monitored by Daz for problems, and this may be connected to yesterday's problem   http://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/61360/product-library-dissappearing#latest

  • Any way to manually download this PoS manually or uninstall it?  Blasted poofed off my computer and now won't reinstall.  Keep getting error messages and have no desire to restore my computer to see. I think BitDefender is seeing it as a virus. I am trying to reload a new laptop so why I am annoyed

  • fixmypcmikefixmypcmike Posts: 19,682

Can you whitelist it in BitDefender?

Try accepting the EULA here: http://www.daz3d.com/eula

then see if DIM will log in.

  • Is there any particular reason  why we have to make a separate request to retrieve the thumbnails every time we download a product?  It is not as though they take up vast amounts of space, especially compared with some of the files that are downloaded.  If there is an issue about consent then surely a check box in the Settings area to allow automatic downloads of thumbs would suffice.

Not workng. Can't download my last purchase and it says only 1 item is installed although I have well over 1500.

That would be a huge improvement!

+1 for the thumbnails - I keep forgetting and they're so helpful later...
