Argh, according to the UPS site my laptop is supposed to be delivered before the end of the day, yet the site doesn't even show it as out for delivery! :ahhh: I hope it's just a glitch...

Worked outside in the test area. Manage to spend some time in the shade, otherwise I can tell you testing a stupid fence opener out in the Sun is going to be painful. Time to wear t-shirts into the office... :bug:

    Work, work, work... :blank:

there's no bus pass system here - Suffolk county. they wantz the cold hard cash and coins.

NYC has the metro card. and ez pass for the toll bridges and tunnels.

mid town tunnel is scary, i feel like it's gonna collapse any minute.

You have to have a plastc card.here, like a debit card. You should try the Westgate bridge here, you can feel it swaying in the wind

My children never could transcribe my shorthand notes. They really hated it because I always used it to make my shopping lists for Christmas and birthdays. On the other hand, my father took shorthand when he was in high school and still remembered it into his 90's.

Do grade schools in the U.S. still teach cursive writing? Just wondering.

I'm not sure. Both my kids are in high school and they don't use it but I didn't use it 21yrs ago in high school. We only used it in grade and middle school

I try not to curse when writing. :-P

    Dana

I curse all the time when I'm writing, maybe that's an issue... :red: :red:

My cursive is nearly unreadable, due to lack of use. Ugh. :long:

I curse Apple's auto-correct all the time

I don't have one, but I can sympathize with you...I've checked out the examples on damnyouautocorrect.com. Damn funny, actually...unless you're the one having the problems.

    Dana

Is handy cos you can hover over a word and it tells ypu synonyms and dictionary stuff but it can't grammar for nuts

They're already here--the Illiterate Generation. They can't write, read, or do arithmetic. But, damn, they sure are good at coloring in the bubbles on the standardized tests. The sad thing is that they don't care. I'm glad I'm no longer teaching in the public school system.

Yeah.. technology is replacing brainpower with Google and Wikipedia. We've had a pile of new grads come here interviewing for engineering positions and about half couldn't answer basic mechanical engineering questions even I could answer, and they had degrees!!! :long:

Not sure where it'll all lead, though. Could work out fine, could be a disaster. Ugh. :blank:

So its like everyone went to film school Oscar Mike Golf is a disaster

Yeah, you're liable to drown! :bug:

When I was a kid we could find frogs and crawdads in the crick. I don't think there are any crawdads or frogs around here anymore. And the kids don't explore the cricks anymore anyway. They're inside on all the beautiful days avoiding the germs and bad people that their mothers obsess about.
...and instead of playing outside on a nice summer day, immersing themselves in games like Halo, GTA, or Skyrim.,

...and people wonder why I don't game.

..currently the only "E-Fare" system our transit commission offers requires a Smartphone. Yeah, totally "bass ackwards" as they won't have a simple dedicated "fare card" up and ready until 2017. Meanwhile Seattle's had a "tap as you go" fare card for about six years now, which is good on Seattle Metro buses, Sound Transit (which operates the commuter rail from Tacoma, Seattle LRT and regional express buses), Snohomish County Transit, Pierce Transit (Tacoma), Whatcom County Transit (Bellingham), and even the Washington State Ferries.

So for many Portlanders, we still have to find a ticket/pass outlet or take our chances with the "no armed bandits " - the automated ticket/pass machines which tend to malfunction and go offline a lot.

Sometimes, in spite of all of it's advertised "progressiveness", Portland can be real "backwater" in it's thinking.

...unfortunately it was 3 matching numbers on two separate lines so I only won 8$ instead of 5.5$ million. :long:

11:30 pm, Carbon Monoxide detector decided to start beeping. Fiance changed the batteries, but it still continued to beep every two minutes. Freak out the dog, and me (I had almost fallen asleep when it started) so he called the Fire department non-emergency line. Three firemen showed up within two minutes and started checking things out. I showed one man to our hot water heater but nothing was wrong with that.

Turns out, the detector had reached the end of its life span, which was why it was beeping. So no need to evacuate our home. But I think they messed a bit too much with the hot water dial cause I couldn't get my shower hot enough.

Isn't it amazing how quickly great ideas can get discussed to death by committee?
