    All,

I'm working with John Hoagland of VanishingPoint to get all the scifi sets updated to  fix the vertex-welding issue that warps the models.  John has contacted Daz on a number of occasions about this problem that excisted with many Poser based products; an issue that doesn't just effect his Poser based products by the way and didn't get much feed back so he's asked to work with me on fixes and added product support changes.

Currently Working on the BridgeXT-2 set.

    -Paul

Looking good Paul. Glad someone is helping out to make them more studio friendly!

Interesting, all the women are scantily clothed, but the guys...? Shouldnt it be equal in the future?

Major goof on my part, while the sky was indeed green, that was during the day.  For that establishing shot of the ship at night right before the first id monster attack, everything had a slightly purple hue, the "opposite" of green.  I'd better turn in my fan membership card. frown

    Sincerely,

    Bill

Does anyone know where a good set of plans might exist for the elevations of the sets from TOS, specifically the briefing room? I'm working a bit with the folks at Starbase Studios, to help them out on their construction of the set; they contacted me based on my Poser models, and I'm trying to reconstruct the room to be more accurate, but I'm still doing it essentially by eye, looking at screen caps from episodes. Lately, James Cawley has been posting shots on Facebook from his Phase II set construction, and they've been eye-opening - even without any measurements, the bright lighting of the location in the construction photos makes the various elements much easier to analyze. I'm rebuilding pretty much the entire set, although Starbase are really only looking for something to help them construct the overhead beams and arches/bulkheads that make the back of the set (I consider the wall with the door the 'front' and base everything 'left,' 'right' and 'back' from that perspective wink). I've redrawn the arches/bulkheads using a screen shot from "The Menagerie," which is almost directly perpendicular to the 'right' wall, and I have to admit, until I saw Cawley's pics, I never noticed that the arches/bulkheads have a wider portion and then step inward about a foot up. So now I've captured that, and also the fact that the 'left' wall is not flush against the arch/bulkhead, as the 'right' wall is, but has one section that is angled outward, near the back, then the wall appears to be somewhat parallel to the a/b. This is what I've done so far - again, this is all by sight, so I'm really hoping I can find some actual plans, with real measurements.

Great looking images and its good to know that these sets will work 100% with Studio now. Like the 3 toned command chair in the last one.

That's what I was thinking. Very second Defiant-esque and very much the look I was going for when I re-did the Enterprise D bridge. Very cool!

    Love that purple look PDSmith!

Yep, I did find, somewhere on the web, those Desilu soundstage drawings, even in higher resolution, and I used those when I originally made my models - that's where my approximation of the radius of the room's 'wedge' came from. Unfortunately, there is no scale on these drawings, so it's a matter of "I believe this is this long, so using that, I need to make this 1.7x that." ;) Good enough for Poser models, hard to make 2x4s, drywall and styrofoam fit together seamlessly. And, as you can see from the model, the details of the drawing are not necessarily accurate - I never knew about that offset in the back left corner until looking at the Phase II WIP photos and then comparing them to the screen shots from "Space Seed."

Paul Petty, thanks for the offer - I know how hard James and his crew have worked on their sets, and I wouldn't feel it was fair to 'borrow' their efforts or resources for someone else's project, especially since it IS someone else's project and I'm only helping out with some 3D modeling and CAD files. If it were just me trying to make accurate Poser/Studio models, I'd say, "Cool! That would be great!" but this is someone else making filming sets, and it really would be their place to have that discussion ;).

I figured you probably had them. I wouldn't be surprised if those are as formal of a blueprint that was made for the sets is all that ever existed. The carpenters may have just worked with the space they had. So many of the room sets were redressed and reused, we don't know.

It would be a huge pain, but it's possibly to extrapolate some measurements based on known dimensions. I looked up the Burke Tulip chair online, and the seat height before adding a cushion is 16". Looking at screen caps from episodes, you could then see how high the conference table is, etc. Shatner is allegedly 5'10", so the shots of him in the briefing room from the episode might help with scale at least. Wish I could help more.

Hi, I'm very late to the party and I'm amazed by what you guys have achieved!  I've never used Daz 3d before but I thought I'd give it a play as I've been doing a cheesy TMP era comic book on Youtube using screenshots from the movie and I've been getting to the point where I'd like to put in some action.  As you may recall, there just isn't any in TMP.

I've managed to knock up male and female version of the TMP uniforms just fine using V4 Courageous and fiddle with the phaser to produce some basic poses.  I will most likely just paste the real actors's heads on the images and do long distance shots in any event and hope it doesn't look terrible.  I have a couple of beginner's queries though:

    1.  I've downloaded Bluto's TMP security outfit but I'm getting an error message requesting a pathway to a .pmd file.  Is that because I need M4 valiant to use the morph on?

    2. I've downloaded the space people morph for V4 and M4 but I can't seem to figure out how to get the morphs to show up under M4 or V4 or in Genesis.  Any tips?

    3. I've downloaded the M3 & V3 TOS character morphs (what no Chekov?) and the likenesses are not quite as good as they look in the images on the download site.  Am I losing some of the likeness because I only have the M4/V4 morph and if so, is it worth downloading the M3/V3 morph for Genesis to achieve a better result?  The morphs on the Star Trek Legends site look amazing - especially Sulu, Scotty, Rand, Chapel, and Valeris.  I'd love some tips on how to get that good!

On the height issue, I was really surprised that Majel Barrett was only 5'9".  She looks really tall in the show because everybody else is so short.  The original FASA game gave each of the characters' strength scores based on the heights of the actors but added 5 (I think) to all the men (except McCoy) to make them a bit more buff.

i use poser and have no idea why it does what it does in daz studio.

the spacepeople morphs were made to be used with m4 and v4 if you are using them with genesis , you will need the help of someon better versed in daz studios . i would asl pdsmith , i know that he updated several morph for genesis .

im sorry i couldnot be of more help

    2. To get any M4 or V4 morph to work properly on Genesis you'll have to have V4 and M4 and have a morph transferring program. To get mine to transfer I used Genesis Generation X2 (I think, I haven't used it in a really long time) which takes the loaded morphs on a V4 or M4 and then creates a full blown morph to apply to a Genesis figure. At least that's how I did it, there's probably other methods too.

    3. Yes, you'll lose some of the character morphs looks if you don't have the right backwards compatible morph for Genesis. You'd need to apply the V3 morph or M3 morph to your Genesis first, then the character morph, and it'd work out. I'm looking to use a few well known characters in some things I'm working on but I haven't really played with the morphs much other than to test if they worked, but that's how I got the best results.

  • Thanks guys - that helps me decide what other programs I need to buy.

For the space people, I do have V4 and M4 and the V4-M4 shapes for Genesis package but I can't seem to find where I need to plop the files to apply the morphs to either.

I'll get the shapes for V3-M3 as well and see if that improves the TOS likenesses.  Probably need poke-away too.  I tried to make Janice a bit more curvy (it was the sixties) but her outfit vanished under her ample thighs.  Booo.  Looks like poke-away just lets me make them even thinner though, Oh well.

M4 Valiant for security can wait until next month methinks.
