has anyone used them with OTHER lights in hte scene as well? (IE a full landscape image with lighting, plus a figure wiht the props/lights)

So I realize it's not intended for Iray, and the cool shader effects don't work for it... that being said, having a tweakable particle stream thingie with morphs and patterns and whatnot can be handy!
For this, I used one of the default swirly patterns, made the particles small emissive, and then duplicated it with larger particles with a slight fog effect. (Transparent, SSS)
I was surprised myself as I had been using gen 2 poses with other characters. So when they didn't work I had no clue why. Nice to know that is due to the type of pose. Very useful info...

Hi Pendriaia.
I worked on this point this morning and found a way to make all the hierarchical pose you own compatible for genesis in the blink of an eye.
1. Copy and paste the poses to a new content directory (the one you put Genesis poses in).
2. It is possible to mass edit the hierarchical poses so that they work for Genesis. First you need a text editor able to do this, I'm using NotePad++ which is entirely free.
3. Open in NotePad++ all the hierarchical poses.
4. Make Search/Find (or CTRL+F), a window pop ups. Select the tab "replace" and replace all
Genesis2Female by Genesis, as shown in the image. Select for that the option "replace in all opened documents", and then save all. All your hierarchical poses are now directly applicable on Genesis.
I have not tested for other hierarchical poses on the market but for mine it works.

Or you can do it as usually, load the hierarchical pose on G2+Staff, then save G2 pose on one side, Staff pose as a second file, and it will work for Genesis, but I think mass edition of the files are really efficient, this is why DSON format is so great.
My first render with just a sphere...no other lighting except the sphere.
Nice! If you want another light color, you can select your sphere and double click in 00 Lights Adjustments for All the preset 18. Or this light preset is also in the smart content, category material. (Shown in image too). Lights presets are set up so that you can apply them on any Serpio Item (Serpio, staff, ball).
I have a question. What are the starting parameters for intensity and falloff? There is no way (that I found) to know what they are set to.

For that you just have to go in your scene tab, and make an "expand all" or expand manually each level of serpio (6 nodes, one rigid follow node per node and one light for each rigid follow node) or of the props. This way you can select the lights easily and watch their properties in parameters or lights tab. Otherwise, without selecting them you can see their parameters in the light tab. (I post a small image here)
Finally the answer is as you see in the image initial intensity 40%, fall off start 5, fall off end 80.

Guess what, I'm really really not gifted to name my products. In general I name it when resaving my content from the huge development mess I have on my computer to something gathered and clean... And at that point, the hardest thing is to find a name... This name came from the fact that I made initially the shape of a snake. And snake in French is "serpent". But since it is a magical name, I needed a Latin sound. So Serpent became "Serpio". And of course I did not thought of Serpico... Toooo laaaate!!!

Even better than attached the ones of Serpio are parented to rigid follow nodes to follow also the morphs of it ;)
I have tried them with other lights in the scene, as well as some other users, and this is fine. The more light or clear background you have around, the more you loose the contrast of course. With more contrast you enhance the visual impact of the effect. With a pure white background it is much less good, but if you place two identical serpio, you can counterbalance this. So it works, but the higher the constrast, the nicer the restult. It is nicer when you keep a nice contrast, this is why the promo images of the poses where rendered only with 20 to 40% intensity of uber-environment with soft occlusion mode, not too much light in order to increase the visual impact because of the contrast increase. I have rendered very rapidely here two images with commercial lights, one with yosemite, one with monterey woods.

What a smart and elegant solution! I had identified that by reducing the particle size and setting them as emitters, a kind of "magic powder" was possible, but I thought it was too limited in term of usage to propose it. But now, with the second identical Serpio with bigger spheres with SSS and transparency, this has a really interesting result... But I guess is requires a strong computer too ;)

I was just having a problem when I was setting them up due to misunderstanding the headlamp setting and putting UE2 in then taking it out. I wanted to get back to the starting parameters to see what was doing what.

thanks, the props come with presets so you can alter the light intensity and other settings with the click of a button. Very easy to use...

Yeah. I'll point out that morphable, dialable particle stuff like this is of great use, no matter what renderer you use, and people will buy all sorts of particle sets.
I think Serpio works just fine with Iray, I let this render cooking for only 12 minutes for 2000 iterations, but the skin would definitely need more. The scene is lit by the effect only, no additional lights used. The second scene has DOF for the camera and the background is set to dark grey. Interesting could also be the volume cube from Sickles tutorial, but I don't have time right now to try it.
Here's the render again, this time with volume added following Sickle's tut on DevianArt, but with slightly adjusted settings. Completely untouched Iray render. :)
Forgot to mention, the render took a few hours (volume always takes a bit longer) and gained 15.000 iterations. It took me a while to realize that the amount of light in the scene is highly dependable on the size of the particles. Small adjustments of the particle size can have a huge amount on the outcome.
Here's the render again, this time with volume added following Sickle's tut on DevianArt, but with slightly adjusted settings. Completely untouched Iray render. :)

Actually from what I saw here and there great renders can be obtained with Iray too, and not only "magical" and.. well.. I'll have to think about the advantages and drawbacks of proposing some Iray presets for Serpio.
Because as Jepe said, it took a lot of iterations, and I fear a bit people might be annoyed by that.
And of course I have to think of other types of particles set... Ouch, I won't have time to get bored during the months to come!

The Iray shaders are not included, but the principle is that you have to set them as emissive Iray uber surfaces (via emission color and power associated to that), and in order to obtain a glow or gloom effect you have to add a volume around the area you need to render using this method :
Maybe you have to increase the bloom in the render settings too...
In brief, Iray shaders are not included, but magic effects are possible provided you are ready to forget a bit the glow, or to add volume atmosphere around. Is it ok?
As V3Digitimes said, you don't use the 3Delight shaders that came with the chain, but use instead the emissive shader in the Daz Iray directory. You want the chain surfaces to be chain surface low power mesh light emitters Also, you have to strip out all the point lights that come with the chain; otherwise, you wind up with much too much light in the wrong places. Depending on the effect you're looking for, you may want to make the particles relatively small through the chain's included morphs.You can alter the emission colors and base colors as you like.
Bloom and/or atmosphere work -- I used bloom for that image -- but you do need to be careful. Both of those will work on all the light in your render, not just the Serpio chain itself. My first attempts, I wound up with blurry chandelier light, which wasn't at all what I wanted. The advantage of using volume atmosphere instead of bloom would be that all lights in the scene would be expected to be blurry.

Wrangler you are right, once you have set up the surface as emissive, it is important to zero (or delete) the point lights since now light will really comes from Serpio. Wiz, I prefered letting other users tell you because honestly I have not practiced Serpio on Iray, so they will have better advices as I have. I hope you'll reached the effects you want!

How much does IRAY limit Serpio? How much different will it look, and how much extra work will it take?
