Molding a figure into 1 single mesh to export and use in blender?

February 2022 in Blender Discussion

Hi there,

I like the ease of creating characters and posings to my liking in Daz3d alot, but i also like to design my own clothings and attributes for the character. To do the 2nd part i use blender, but i cant seem to find a easy way to use the figure in blender. I am not into animating but just 2d images. So as soon as i export my character to blender its not needed to move/pose or whatsoever, i use it as a "manequin"/statue for the clothings and attributes i put on later.

I used the daz2blender converter, but then it just tries to export the whole project including all editable bones etc etc, which usually makes me end up with weird results in especially the face expressions, aand also gives me way more functionallity then needed using way more resources while editing. All i need is the whole model "molded" back intoto 1 mesh, with the textures applied on it. I was wondering if something like this was possible,or anyone knows anything that come close to making it this simple?

I tried .obj export, which is close to what i want, but obj unfortunately doesnt bring textures over. Maybe i should export textures seperate and apply it in blender? Altho im not sure how that works.  I love the textures of the models in daz3d so i was hoping to use them instead of retexturing everything with new textures.

Hope someone can help me to a solution, thanks!

One way is to convert everything to props before exporting.

edit > figure > rigging > convert to prop

Or you may try teleblender that iirc exports only the geometry without rigs. The exported materials will not be high quality though.

Just export directly as an obj file.

Not sure if it can do what you want, but there is also Diffeomorphic : https://diffeomorphic.blogspot.com/

This comes pretty close to what i want but for some reasons i cant get my model lit up in a proper way anymore then. I keep getting this effect on cycles, any solution for that? More/less light doesnt really help

It's not the lights. For quality materials the obj export will not work, you have to fix the materials yourself.
