Noob - can't edit shape keys

Hi. I’m new to Blender. I downloaded a model that has shape keys, but when I change the values, nothing happens. Can someone please take a look at this file, and tell me what I’m doing wrong? I know the purple ones are changed by drivers. I need the ones that aren't purple for the phonemes, face and body morphs, etc.

I trust this is a free redistributable model since you linked it here.

As far as I can see those shapekeys do nothing, that is, they don't work. I noticed that the face is in tris while the body is in quads. And it's the face shapekeys that don't work. While the body shapekeys work fine. In my opinion this model was probably edited by someone who didn't know what he was doing and now it's a mess.
