Help with Diffeomorphic!

JCarverJCarver Posts: 37
January 2022 edited January 2022 in Blender Discussion

I just installed Diffeomorphic, but when I create a scene in Daz and then click the "export to blender" thing in the file menu, nothing happens... (*shrugs*)

I followed everything in this youtube video  EXCEPT for the steps to install the daz_hd_morphs zip file. I had to hunt that one down, becasue the latest version of diffeomorphic version 1.6.1 didn't come with it--and I was scared not to include it so I grabbed it off the internet and installed it from there. I'm not sure if that's the problem, otherwise, I followed the video exactly...I think. crying

Everything looked good, but when I clicked "export to blender" it just did absolutely nothing. Any tips for a very nervous non-tech person? Also, in case I want to pull the plug on the idea, is there any good documentation out there for uninstalling Diffeomorphic?

Thanks a bunch!

UPDATE: I managed to get the export to work! BUT, the option in the file menu still doesn't do anything. I got it to work by going back to the Diffeomorphic item in the Daz Studio contents library and clicking on the icon that says "Export Blender." With that I was able to create a DBZ file, but by taking the long route. In Blender, I also had to do something different from what the video stated. I had to click the "Import Daz" button and not the "Easy Import Daz" like he did in the vid. I'm still disappointed that these buttons don't work and would love it if someone can help me fix it all. Otherwise, I'll keep on using these longer methods for export/importing. I have to go take a break now, I'm a little stressed. frown

    Hi there,

I can't watch the video right now so maybe you have done this step and I am also new but there's no other replies and I MIGHT be able to help. I notice you don't mention that you also save the file in Daz before clicking export to blender?

when I create a scene in Daz and then click the "export to blender" thing in the file menu, nothing happens...

Iir Step 1 and 2 here can be done in any order but both need to be done.

    1. Save the file in Daz as usual.

    2. Go to Diffeomorphic and click export to Blender - I have a pretty good PC for a non professional and it does seem like nothing has happened for a few seconds, maybe even like 5ish depending on the scene, but when its done a pop up appears saying you its done and how long it took.

    3. In blender, you import the daz file you saved earlier - the same one you would click on if you were in Daz and wanted to open that - and it should work.

If I'm just repeating the tutorial, apologies as I'm still at work. If you do want to delete diffeomorphic (which I'd recommend against for now as I have used it without problems many times), I'm pretty sure you just need to go to its location in your third party content library and delete it from there. And then in Blender just Edit>Preferences>Add ons> uncheck diffeomorphoric.

Hope this helps or someone else can.

I'd strongly advise to follow the official diffeomorphic instructions instead of a video that may be out of date and/or inaccurate.

    https://diffeomorphic.blogspot.com/p/daz-importer-version-16.html

Then below it's how I do things that's much easier in my opinion.

    first time install:
    1. download the diffeo and/or mhx updates
    2. unzip and rename to "import_daz" and "mhx_rts"
    3. move to the blender "addons" folder and activate the addons in blender as usual
    4. move the "diffeomorphic" folder inside "import_daz" to the daz studio "scripts" folder

    usage:
    1. in daz studio run "export to blender" or "export HD to blender" from the "scripts" folder in the content library

    updates:
    1. download the diffeo and/or mhx updates
    2. unzip and rename to "import_daz" and "mhx_rts"
    3. replace the old folders both in blender and daz studio

    Hi h,

Thank you for your reply! I did safe the scene in Daz before trying to export. I mimicked everything the guy says in the video. He clicked "save as" and then went back into the file menu anc clicked "export to blender," does that sound right? So I did the same thing, and nothing happened for me on the export part.

I did wait longer than 5 seconds, I'm sure. And I just built a great new computer with a Ryzen 5950x and an RTX 3070 gpu, so I don't think it could be the pc.  (*shrugs*)

Nah, you didn't repeat the tutorial, thank you. And I'm keeping Diffeo for now becasue I did get it to work, it's just that I have to use different links and options to do my exports. Thanks for telling me how to delete it. I will probably only delete it if I mean to try a clean reinstall. ;)

    Hi Padone,

You're right about using the official diffeo instructions, hahah! It's just that I really felt I needed to watch someone do it and then use monkey see-monkey do to get mine done without any goofy screw ups of my own doing. I am TERRIFIED about all that file manipulation stuff. I think I screwed my Daz studio install once becasue I was trying to change the file paths, and I wound up reinstalling it from scratch because I had made a mess. Ugh! Even the simple instruction you gave me here (and I thank you for it!) kind of makes my head spin and I would be afraid to try it. But maybe soon I'll take another look. I did get the export to work by uisng the export icon in the contents library, so I'm not very motivated to mess with anything again yet. frown
