Wet skin on Genesis 8.1 - so near and yet so far?

UPDATE if anyone comes across this. The product is fully 8.1 compatible :)

--------

I'm curious. I use G8.1 exclusively.

 - If the PA is reading this, is this likely to be enhanced to 8.1 at some point? Could another shell be provided with 8.1 UVs? It can be done as this product demonstrates:

https://www.daz3d.com/tear-jerker-the-ugly-crying-builder-for-genesis-3-8-and-81-females-merchant-resource

If yes, I would buy it and use the other things for now. If no, I'll have to leave it.

 - Does anyone know of a wet skin product that will work on 8.1?

 - Is there a process to convert the geoshells that someone could point me to? I could then buy it and convert it, although if it's that easy, I guess the PA would have done it.

Thanks!

Although the files list says there are 8.1 shells included. So is the description wrong?

    GeoShells:

    • WFX2 Wet Shell for Genesis 8 Female
    • WFX2 Wet Shell for Genesis 8.1 Female
    • WFX2 Wet Shell for Genesis 8 Male
    • WFX2 Wet Shell for Genesis 8.1 Male

I bought the Wetfx 2 product and have both a 8.1 shell for both 8.1 male and female and have rendered with it.  Installation problem perhaps?

I haven't bought it, I was going by the desctiption which I guess must be wrong!

"The wet skin geoshells require the Genesis 8 figure generation in order to function, however there are a selection of overlay and decal options that will work regardless of UVs or figure."

Thank you so much for confirming! I will let the support the support team know as this almost stopped me buying it. Thanks again!

8.1 is part of the Genesis 8 figure generation for clarification... it probably wouldn't work on a putative Genesis 9 when that happens and doesn't work on Genesis 3 even with the simularities to Genesis 8....

Yes, that would make more sense! Thanks :)

Brilliant, thanks! And looking good so far. You'll have to post the finished thing :)

  • You may also want to try that other store that's a portmanteau of the words "render" and "erotica". There's is a product there called Ultimate Skin Moisture that supports both g8/g8.1 and has add-ons for sweat, water, baby oil. It's quite good. Don't let the fact that it's sold "there" turn you off.

Agreed, it's a great product that renders really well.

  • To get G8 shells on 8.1 you first need to load a G8, apply your geoshell effect to it. Load your G8.1 and add a new blank geoshell from Create menu. Change the base shader for the new geoshell to Uber. Then copy and paste the original shell layers to the new one. You'll need to copy the torso of the 8 shell to the boyd and head of the 8.1. Set the 8.1's shader UV's to base male/female.

Also available at the cgbytes store...  the much less adult version of the 'rotica store.

I will add if you add a geoshell and the anatomical geograft area is white:

Select the geoshell, go to the Surfaces Tab and select the white geograft surface, apply the default Iray shader to it, copy the body/torso texture surface settings and paste to the geoshell's geograft surface.  The first rule of the Surface tab is that ony iray can copy and paste to iray and only 3dl can copy and paste to 3dl so that the default surface settings for a geoshell may have to be converted to iray to copy and paste.

Thanks! They have some good things there. I tend to just search for clothing which filters the more... specialised content so I missed that.

One thing I have noticed is they are expensive and you will often find the same product elsewhere for significantly less, so shop around before hitting the buy button! The stuff I would buy is not adult and is sometimes cheaper on the other big content site, or other places (I don't know if I can say where!). I understand from a journal I read on DeviantArt that they take 50% so the artists pass that on...

Thank you! I have some older Geoshell items and I'm going to try out these tips tonight. I think there is also a bug in the grafts that means if you use the geometry editor or mesh grabber (which I guess is similar), then it shows the shell in white for all the grafted areas, even after you finished editing. I've seen that happen on a gauged ears product, for example.

The gauged ear product problem is an easy one; if there is a geograft that the geoshell shouldn't apply to, go select the geoshell, go to Parameters > Visibility > Groups and turn off the visibility of the portions of the geoshell covering the gauged ears.

  • I use this crude method to get the wet skin geoshell for g8f to work on g8.1:

    1. Load a default g8f, and then load wet skin geoshells of choice.

    2. Save them as a sub scene, and whenever I need the wet skin geoshell I merge them to my currently working on scene.

    3. Use this script on g8.1f to create a new geoshell on g8.1.

    4. Go to surface tab and copy the shader settings of the wetskin geoshell on the g8f figure.

    5. Copy and paste the setting to the newly created geoshell on g81 figure. Usually you need to copy the arm, leg, torso (copy to body and head surfaces), face, ear surfaces.

    6. Dont forget to change the offset distance.

And then its done, its kinda nooby way of doing thing, but it work for me.

Thank you :) Yes, that's how I around the issue.

I do think this is a bug though. When I add the shell it's fine but every single time I go into the geometry editor or mesh grabber (which I do.a lot) then I have to hide those surfaces all over again. It's especially annoying of you have more than one shell, which I did in one picture! (The ugly tears product uses separate shells for left and right.)

Basically, the problem is that when you use the geometry editor or a related tool, then all geograft surfaces on geoshells are shown.

I really ought to raise a bug report because it's not right, and there's a chance they don't know.

Thanks you very much! Out of curiousity, is that a script you put together?
