I use right now 3 thickener plugins and sometimes when I load the scene, the third is not there, I have to press enable/disable.

Also when I hide stuff sometimes the other ones does fly up and stay there.

So the props seem to have problems to stay in place when things are happening :<

    But it's still a great product :)

I discovered how to solve the bug, if you reload a scene and the prop is not at the same place as before.

I don't know WHY it happens but here is the solution:

Open the timeline, find the product and if it created keys, then rightclick it and go to Select->"Select all item key" then rightclick again the prop and chose delete selected keys, then will the item be again at it's correct position.

I don't know why the plugin creates random keys, it does happen very random :<

    Also a tipp:

If you use like me groups for organisation like:

    Scene

    |- Chars

      |- Char 1

      |- Outfit

etc, then make sure, you load the thickened object (I recommend dynamic), by selecting the wanted object (as exampleclik on your t-shirt then on thickener -> dynamic) and then, go to the new thickened object and click enable, and THEN you can drag it into the group, if you drag it before you clicked enable, it does sync the location wrong, because of the group locations.

(same problem if you move a locked item in/out of groups, the translation positions are different, if you ever wonder why something doesn't stay on place after grouping, make sure to unlock the translation/rotations.)

I hope that this will help people who use google for troubleshoot and landing hre :)

So, weird problem with the plug-in: it was working fine for a few months, and now, for no reason I can tell, it's stopped showing up in my tools. It's still installed on my computer, and it appears in my list of plug-ins, but the serial number registration field has vanished, and there's no where for me to re-enter the serial number. I can't uninstall the plug-in (doesn't actually uninstall from my plug-ins, even using both DazCentral and the Install manager. Manually deleting the plug-in from my Daz folder does make it apparently vanish from my plug-ins, but re-installing puts it back into the list without giving me a field to put the serial number into).

Anybody have any ideas? I have a ticket in with Daz, but you all know how long it can take to hear back from them. I LOVE THIS PLUG-IN, and it's maddening not being able to use it!

EDIT---NEVER MIND! No idea what happened, but it's apparently working again. Yay, computers, or something!?!

I'm glad you magically got it working. I think Thickener is a great addition to DS, too.

I've had this product in favourites for ages.I kept looking at the "product image" and reading the text and thinking... Nah, I don't need that.

Today I found this topic and took a look at a couple of the images posted by people who've bought. "I need that!"

For the attached - 1st go with the plugin - (top before / bottom after, with thickener settings) Nothing else was done to the hoodie (i3s for G3F) other than thickener. If I "sell" you the "weird-grey-worm" as the cord for the hood - that's absolutely brilliant as a "well-worn/threadbare" hoodie.

    Fantastic product, alberto smiley

    Thank you! smiley

  • I created a net for a tennis court in Hexagon, but when i was done the net was too thin looking, so I used Thickener to quickly create a thicker version of the net. My question is, can I use the new geometry created by Thickener in something that I might later sell or distribute as a freebie? It seems to be a gray area since it's based on geometry that I originally created, but it is using your tool. And your tool is not a merchant resource as far as i know. So I am unsure of where I stand with regards to the mesh created. Is the new mesh mine to do with what I want or is it only for non-commercial use?

I was hoping to use this to make clothes less likely to have pokethrough holes, and generally clothes look better thicker, but the first frame of a series of renders will always look off... either it is appears in the position of the current frame that was originally selected in the animation, or it just looks different from its neighboring frames. It fixes after that, but that's definitely a bit annoying to have to fix that frame everytime. Also, for some reason, a frame will look good in the viewport, but the moment big movements happen in the render process, the thicken plugin is not updating to match the next frame.

I will show the issue with thickener and rendering an image series here. I am using two frames, in which they are respectively frame 719 and frame 721. I find frame 720 was the last frame before the poke.

The below frame, 719, doesn't present any issues unless it was the first frame in a render for a image series animation.

    Correct Outcome: https://i.imgur.com/gAyoPlp.jpeg

    Subtle Issue: https://i.imgur.com/PBn2guv.jpeg

You can notice the clothes are slightly off with poke through.

This frame presents an issue when I don't specifically skip to this frame in the timeline, then render this frame as the first frame.

    Correct Outcome: https://i.imgur.com/k2dRmYJ.jpeg

    Issue: https://i.imgur.com/pTKxQgw.jpeg

The clothes start poking through. The character was beginning to stand up when this happens.

It's not fun, but I am able to get it to work by hiding the viewport, loading the scene, and then manually selecting each frame. I skip to frame 720, for instance, and make it the current frame. Then I just set the start frame for the render as that one. Once it finishes that frame, I then stop the render, skip the frame 721, and so on, and set start frame to that new frame. As long as the viewport remains hidden, I have no issue with stopping and restarting the render. The first frame might still cause issues for the first render after loading the scene, so skipping around frames back to the one I need after that happens will set me up to keep rendering.

This is fine for issues where it affects, say, 30 frames... but I have instances where it affects a lot more... so, it is not ideal to spend all my time manually rendering each frame... I wish it was just a case of reloading DAZ each time, so then I'd do Render Queue, but that would just cause every frame to have the clothing in the position of the original current frame...

If you ever find a fix for this, I'd love to see it. Cause otherwise, I'll need to stop using thickener for clothes, which will suck. I love the thickened clothing...

Update... considering that issue, I do not recommend this for clothing in complex animations.... just use a Push Modifier and Smoothing. It gives similar results, without the issues. I wish I knew about those settings before... the more you know.
