Complaint:  I miss Chohole.  I woke up this morning and stumbled into the kitchen and saw the rainbow of color from my window prisms again.  The sun has moved around to it's fall position where the morning light comes directly to my window and through my prisms & makes my radiometer spin like mad.  Yay!yes  But, I used to love to get comments from Chohole about my morning light show when I popped into the forum and said "Wheee..., my morning light show is back."  I miss Chohole.sad

Non-complaint:  Wheee...,  my morning light show is back.  Also, I think I found an acceptibly functional and sufficiently cheap laptop for either me or my sister-in-law.  What do you think of this laptop?  (No HP haters please.angry

    https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08KGZ79N6?tag=pcspcs-20&linkCode=ogi&th=1&psc=1

Yeah, yeah, I know it can't do DAZ h/w IRay rendering and it doesn't have a super display and the "C:" drive is only a 256 SSD of unknown quality, and it "only"  has 8GB of RAM but other than that, it looks like a sound, modern, low use, computer.  Perfect for what I or my sister-in-law need in a laptop.  Neither of us do any gaming and I certainly don't need my laptop to do IRay because I've got two VERY nice machines that already do that and I don't expect to be doing any rendering while traveling.

So, discounting the moot negatives, that leaves the appearance, size, basic functionality and the price.  I like the pricesmiley.  Just try to find a full HD laptop with big company support behind it for under $800 (US).

I don't really need a laptop, but the one I have is at least 10 years old, its an HP "hpG60-642NR" that originally came with Win7-Home installed which has been upgraded through Win7-Pro, Win8-Pro, Win8.1-Pro, and finally running Win10-Pro.   The CPU is a Core2-Pentium with 2-cores, 2 threads.  It's been maxed out with 4GB of RAM and I've replaced the original 1TB hard drive with a 1TB SSD.  And last year I finally replaced the battery.yes  The laptop still works perfectly and is in excellent cosmetic condition.  However, it reveales its age when I ask it to do things.  It's slow and sooooo last generation.frown  (Might make a nice Linux machine though.)enlightened

However, not needing a new whizzo computer device is only sometimes an impediment to reckless spending.  The only way I can justify this is to buy it for someone else so, maybe my sister-in-law will get a nice new laptop to replace the ancient microscopic toy she currently uses.  Heaven knows I've done everything else for her machine.  No more vitamins will work on it, it's a tired horse wanting to go to pasture.  It's either a new laptop for her or a new version of Microsoft Office for her to bring her into the 21st century.  'Twon't be both.indecision

...+1 on all accounts, particularly missing Chohole.

This time of the year the bulding across the street blocks the sun most of the morning so summer is my "lightshow season"

...well things seem to be going downhill in neighbourhood these days.  First there were a couple gang related shootings I may have mentioned earlier about, one only a few blocks from my building (fortunately lo one was wounded of killed in either incident)  Disturbances in the area have been increasing like the other night when one woman was stomping about & screaming in the middle of the night and the next day some fellow who threatened a couple people forcing the police to show up (6 units) to restrain and take him away.

Early this morning at around 04:00 I was awoken by some loud banging noises outside and got up to see that someone had just broken the glass in the door at the little mini mart across the street (third time in the last year). I got a couple photos, including on of his face as he was coming out, that I showed to the police who arrived a few minutes later (I was in the process of calling them when they showed up).  Sad, because this shop is a convenient place particularly for those living in the apartments across the street where it is . The glass part of the door is boarded up but the shop is open for now.  Maybe he shouldn't bother replacing ht glass and have the plywood in the door reinforced, or get that type of glass with the wire mesh in it.

Admittedly this up tick in incidents in what is a fairly well to do neighbourhood is making me a little more nervous about being out at night particularly with the increase in gang presence and the days getting shorter.. Not as quick and nimble as I used to be, particularly with my hip acting up these days.

There's this cute little mouse ... for a deer mouse you would need to make another texture for it.

For another mouse there is this one:

And then there's this ancient fella [on sale today for 40 cents though]

There are a couple more "mice" for figures ... and one that looks more like a rat, in the store.

Non-Complaint no2 - Ordered i9-9940X for my new rig on Friday, it cost 670 eur (VAT 24% included) and got an order confirmation for it the same day with that price. Today the same processor was priced at 180 eur higher, just a modest 27% increase over the weekend... Someone is very happy smiley

The inventory of the store shows that one i9-9940X has arrived just two hours ago... I guess, I'll be getting a text message tomorrowsmiley

And if you have any luck like we do it will be to tell you it's now out of stock.

No luck, the message arrived and the processor can be picked up from the store within a week. smiley

Picked up the processor today, plus some other things. All the new stuff for the update is now home.

While at the store, I realized, it is not a bad thing to have the store 40 miles away, as any closer would eventually be way too expensive wink

  • Why is it when snacking and watching tv, it seems I assume I have more food than I actually have next to me?  I tend to look for a snack I apparently already ate.  Bummer, I guess.

  • Apparently my iPad isn't an android phone so I can't use it easily to sign in my TiVo.

Okay, cool... I thought there was a problem with Parallel Universe Overlap... or worse yet, a time travel experiment gone wrong... if that ever happens don't let future or past summer touch the other summer... bad stuff happens.

  • Why can't I find a Philips when I need one, but instead I find a bunch of flatheads instead?

i should go read about how to create UV textures for objects that I make in Hexagon.

edit: I guess the umbrella term for UV and domain shaders is called material.  Materials in Hexagon

    Non-Complaint...

Took my daughters down to the State Park where there are lots of huge empty parking lots so they could practice driving...

Scary as hell, because they both have heavy feet and enjoyed driving through the flooded areas of the lot we practice in.

It was also really windy so a lot of muddy water blew into the vehicle... but it's my wife's SUV, so it's okay.

Also I'm going to have to clean it up anyway...

But it's kinda weird... they were little babies when I first started on these forums, now they are looking at which colleges they want to go to and will soon be getting driver's licenses...

    Sigh...

Well... it was a nice sunset...

Non-complaint:  Yay!  I finally got all my ducks in a row and convinced** the NY State Department of Motor Vehicles that I can see well enough to drive and they've agreed to renew my driving license.yes  Wheee...  another 8 years of freedom.  All I need now is a car.frown

** Note:  The NYS DMV system is supposed to work like this:  If you don't want to come into the DMV office for your eye test and paperwork, you can do it on-line.  Great idea if everybody in the chain plays their part right.  The on-line paperwork is a no-brainer, just fill out the fields, but the eye test must be done by an authorized professional, like a doctor or other trained personnel.  So, since I had a doctor appointment already I had the eye test done there.  The nurse was young and eager and I'd brought the proper form for her to fill out but she said "...don't need the form, I'll just submit it via the Internet".  All fine and good except for the suspicion after two weeks of trying to complete my on-line licence renewal application, they kept rejecting me because they said that they "...have no record of your eye test...".  When the steam in my brain finally exited, I decided to track down what happened to my eye test data, so I started at the beginning, the nurse.  I called the doctor on the phone and when I was finally transferred to the nurse, she sort of fumbled her words and tried to say that the report had been submitted, but said she'd submit it again.  This time, within 15 minutes of me hanging up and logging back into the DMV website, my eye test data had magically appeared.  I think that she just plain forgot to submit the information two weeks ago.  Grrr...angry

Complaint:  Now that I am suitable to drive again, the State wants $72.50 from me for the privilege.sad

Thanks~  I love when scenes just kind of spring up from what's the 3D equivelant of a 'doodle'  :D

  • My Intel i5 core processor feels fast.  Not sure why some people on review sites are saying it is slow??  Maybe some people bought computers that have only 4GB of memory?  With only 4GB of RAM, Windows will swap data to the slow disk often.

Regarding "feels fast".  It's all relative.indecision  I pity the people who achieve the "fastest" of anything, it's usually a short lived achievement and a constant battle to stay at the top.  And usually very expensive too.frown  It's much easier to appreciate what you have and to be somewhat satisfied that what you're using now feels faster than what you had.  Plenty of growth ahead of you if desired, someday, with other people's money preferably.devil

Regarding i5 not being fast.  Intel's i5 CPUs have always been the momma-bear of Intel's "i" line.  Not the best performing, not the worst.  And recent versions (8xxx, 9xxx, 10xxx, 11xxx) "i5"s have been quite zippy for almost anything except extreme needs.yes  And don't be fooled by the advertised CPU clock speeds in the mid-2GHz range compared with previous CPUs that ran in the mid-3GHz range.  Modern CPUs on modern motherboards can "turbo" themselves when necessary, getting up to speeds in the high 3 or low 4GHz range.  No need to keep the engine revving at high RPM while sitting at the traffic light.  Saves on energy and reduces heat generation.

Whatever the processor, the best way to make the most out of it, is keeping the environment 'clean' - That is, not installing trial versions and removing whatever that's not used and/or needed for what YOU want/need to do with the computer.

  • I feel ridiculous, but I'm already heading my way to the dentist.  I'm wearing a black dress with red yoga pants underneath.  I'm also wearing a leopard print light cardigan over the dress.
