Pie Menu on TAB - how to kill it?

In 2.8 I could press TAB to flip from OBJECT to EDIT mode and numbers 1, 2 and 3 to choose VERTGEX, EDGE or FACE.

Now there's this intrusive bloody pie menu when I press TAB and I just don't want it. I can't find a sensible answer on google.

By default it is still "Tab" for edit mode.

Go to "Edit > Preferences". In preferences window, select "Keymap". There is an option "Tab for Pie menu", make sure that is not checked(ticked).

If still a problem, try using (in that same window) "Restore" to reset keymap.

Thanks for taking the trouble to offer an answer. The Tab for Pie Menu thing wasn't actually checked. Checking and unchecking it didn't solve the problem BUT - (cue brass band and dancing girls) - restoring the factory settings actually did.
