Something Wild

I've been a customer for quite a while, but lately I feel left in the dust. All I see is either G8F character number 10000, G8M character number 100 (not exclusive to DAZ of course, people appear to be thirsty and so onedimensional that it hurts) and also quite a few very cool interior and exterior designs.Still waiting for a DAZ Dragon 4 or to be honest anything that's not an half-assed half-human succumbing to questionable design decisions. The horse is not awful but old and revised with the much better Hivewire alternative around, the dog is extraordinarily, laughably bad considering what could be possible, the anthropomorphic characters are hit or miss. You never know what you get, since you don't even get a mutually agreeable base. Please don't get me wrong, some of the designs are through the roof cool - looking at you, Stonemason (for architecture, hands in fire cool), Herschel, Josh.

But I begin to wonder why there's no savy base in so many regards? The Internet is ripe with absolutely good, savy and reproduceable designs. Heck, you even got Disney who figured it out decades ago how cool a character can look. Instead you either have human iteration number X around here or a non-human character with proportions so off that I honestly want to rip my hair out. Let alone, circling back, the lack of a Dragon 4.

I've spent less and less money on that venture. Not because I don't want to, but because there's almost nothing that makes me want to cash out anymore. It's a complicated matter and as of now I feel bad that I might be stepping on the feet of some of the incredibly talented people selling their content here. At the same time I gotta scold the powers that be so that maybe I can once, or more often, get on, look at the store and smile- because what I'm seeing is damn nice. Sorry for the rant everyone, didn't want to steal your time. But I had to vent. Have a good one.

    What is a savy base??

As for a Dragon 4, when you have a quality PA offering like the HH Wyvern https://www.daz3d.com/hh-wyvern maybe they felt there wasn't a market for it

its good to vent, and also good to say something in hopes of seeing more cool creative content

In lack of a better word, something more "average". G8 (and G3, and all those before, you know) for example with all the available morphs can be fine tuned through the roof, but if the content creators play around too much it's almost impossible to steer the character in a different direction without making it look "off".

True that. Herschel is one of my two favorite artists on this site, the other being Stonemason. While it's true what you say, that maybe there wasn't a market for it, it still stings.

Thanks man, had to get it out.

In regards to the Horse2, I think a lot of cool stuff has been added over the years. I love combining Design Anvil's iRay horse textures with Linday's Horse 2 upgrade. Before I removed the Daz 4.12 Beta from my PC, I used DA's dForce horse tail and mane which I think is terrific. There's Linday's Dark Knight Armor, Guardian Armor by fjaa, and Deepsea's War Chariot just to name a few recent Horse2 support products. Heck there's even the wildly cool Mount of the Abyss for the horse. I think a new horse would be great, but I'm glad Daz and the PAs still support it to a degree. Hivewire hasn't done diddly-squat with the HW horse for a long time...at least what I've noticed anyway. There's so much room for improvement/advancement on their part. I agree with you about the G8 stuff though. I'm so sick of the dime-a-dozen babes.....

Absolutely! I don't want to scold the individual artist. Someone designed that horse and put their sweat and blood into it. Someone designed that dog I scolded in my original post, and equally put sweat and blood into it. Words on a bulletin board on the internet are quickly written and to be quite honest I might be a bit fed up right now. What they did I could never do, I lack the talent. All things considered it's good work, but I feel just a little, or a lot, let down - just built up over the years of visiting the site every day only to be let down again and again. No harm meant, but I needed to share it.

So maybe give us all an idea of what specific things you are looking for other than the dragon 4.

It's hard for the users since they have to rely on the PAs vision to create what they want and many times although the core item may be created, it will be lacking in certain areas or not fully be what the user wants. I have wanted a full tactical military kit for quite awhile now. Many have been made, but none have fully delivered on what I was looking for in the sense of detail, style or coverage.

For me, I'm more excited when I get a crocodile guy or a hippo guy or some funky monster dude that works with an existing base like Genesis 8x10000... then I can just cannibalize the poses for the new anthro figure.

The fewer bases, the better, IMO.

I haven't been at this for very long, and I'm not a professional, and certainly not an artist. I have to say, I'm a fan of the G8 based characters. I have several characters and there's no way anyone could guess they all share the same base. This option appeals to me much more than paying for a character bundle that includes things I don't need, and may or may not have other characters spun off of it.

It's not scientific sampling,  but looking at the bundle sale going on now, there are characters listed that I've never seen before, and I spend hours a day on this site. I would be really disappointed to have spent that kind of money and seen very few characters based on what I bought.

    Savy, a misspelling of  savvy?

I'd be happy with new mane and tail for either horse. Not all horses have Pantene Pro-V hair. In fact, most don't. A lot of horses used in combat even had their manes cropped right off. Or Braided. Would love to be able to have a braided mane for DH2. I bought the armor that recently came out right quick. DH2 and HWH need more armor...not like bucket-head armor (and don't get me wrong, I love the Dark Knight set), but like actual practical faceplates, leather ones, that you'd see in something like Lord of the Rings. Also feather. No not bird feathers. But fetlocks. HWH has them, but DH2 never got them (I'm not even counting whatever those things are that come with the Unicorn, sorry). And whiskers. HWH can get them with the LAMH presets, but DH2 doesn't have them. Also would love a LAMH preset for DH2. More tack with breastplates.

I'd love a new dragon. Dragon 2 is very...cartoony? Is that the word? He's so versatile, but in almost every instance he's used, he just stands out as too hyper-stylized. Plus there's no good wyverrn model for him. There's HH Wyvern, which is gorgeous, but not much versatility there. What kind of dragon am I looking for? The wyverns from GoT. Or Smaug's wyvern model from The Desolation of Smaug (yes I know that Smaug was originally written with four limbs). Or even the wyvern models from Skyrim. Or hell, a good four-legged dragon too...but not one that is hyper-stylized. So something that is versatile that I can mold to what I need it to be. I think Dragon 2's biggest downfall is his feet and claws. That's where a lot of Daz animals falter. Even Dog 8. Every Dog 8 has those same odd looking paws.

The problem is, they need to sell what sells.... I own hundreds of dinosaurs, dragons, creatures, addons for them, two versions of the horse and big cat plus addons, poses for all of these, but i have yet to use any of them! I render beautiful females and sexy clothes daily and there are probably a lot more customers like me than you. To be honest, I SHOULD start rendering these things since I purchased them. And as much as you groan every time you see another pretty female, I groan when I see another creature I’ll probably get on deep sale some day but never use.

But thanks for this thread. It’s motivating me to finally use all these creatures I purchased!

For wild things, I think Rawart has the wildest variety. I sort of wish he/she would expand that unique talent into mystical creatures - like elves, fairies, etc. I like the current crop by various artists, nearly all basically human females, and definitely beautiful.
But I can imagine an otherworldly forest with otherworldly creatures slightly-to-much less human, but equally beautiful.
I wish I could translate my ideas into actual characters, but I can barely draw a stick-figure. I can't imagine learning to model anything.

As a book cover artist, I have to agree that I need more dragons or even more modifications to dragon 3 or any older dragons ... once I use a dragon on a book cover, it's just bad business to use the same dragons on other covers for other authors. Same goes for all critters, fantasy and reality. I don't even buy 'babe' characters unless there are also 'interestingly unique or cool' sff variants with it. Versatility. And I know PAs need to see a profit from their hard work, but wouldn't it stand to reason expanding existing figures into new heights be profitable, too, rather than more cookie-cutter characters?

What about dialing your own dragon? There are quite a lot of morph packs for the Dragon 3:

    This one was dialed with
Daz Dragon 3, Morphs and Textures - Daz
Mythic Beasts for the DAZ Dragon 3 - Sickleyield, Fuseling
    Creatures of Legend - SickleYield

Perhaps you know of these, but just in case. There are quite a few wyvern variants available too:

The HH Wyvern is customizable nicely.

Yes! The whole fun of Daz is altering assets to make them unique. I would never give a client anything as it looks in the store. You might as well just use stock photos if you’re going to do that. Also, it’s easy to take skin files into Photoshop and be creative with them or even alter the skins quite a bit in surfaces. I think you can even use some randomizer scripts on the creatures although I haven’t tried that. But now I do want to try playing with some creatures since they are just sitting in my runtime unused.

I don't get many requests for wyverns, but I definitely want those anyway, lol. I do dial my own dragons but more texture options would be very welcome, as well as starter poses, though I did recently buy a pose randomizer to help. And I want more LAMH critters, and more 3DL friendly options, lol. I know ... I'm needy.

You can dial-spin Dragon 3 all day long, but almost every time you'll still end up with those cartoony feet and claws. Dragon 3 is always given away by those feet.

As I said already, HH Wyvern is nice indeed, but it isn't very customizable at all. Texutres, yes...but you can't really alter the shape unless you morph it yourself. Longer neck, longer tail, wings/arms carried/folded lower...I'd love to know how to do that...then again, if I did, I'd be making the figures myself to begin with, haha.
