Zev0 has just announced a planned update for Fit Control.

Ahhh I didn't realize it was script based.

One can use the product without the scripts. But the scrips are a helpful shortcut, perhaps there will be an update? Would be lovely.

Bummer, fell in that trap, too. With full body geoshells for G8 not working on G8.1 and vellus hair not included, how does one proceed to return the V8.1 purchase?

How exactly are the geoshells not working? What issues are you seeing?

    Tim

I haven't scanned through the previous 300+ messages in this thread so I don't know whether this has been addressed yet but I've just tried two Meipe products (GP and Headlights) which rely on copying materials to geoshells and neither work - complaining at the MAT copy stage that there is no G8F in the scene.

What version of DS are you using? The auto-mat transfers need 4.15. As for the geoshell issues, that's being looked at but you can manually adjust them for now.

Yes I am using 4.15 but the MAT copy doesn't work because the products are looking for a Genesis 8 Female in the scene and it doesn't recognise 8.1 ... but there are workarounds desribed elsewhere (here and on the R'otica forum). Others will probably have to wait for updates for those products to get around the 8 vs 8.1 issue and the different UV mapping. I will probably wait too because I don't see an immediate need to transfer my G8F characters to the 8.1 base.

By the way, am I right in assuming that to transfer a much-morphed character I just save a Character preset and load that to the new 8.1 base or is there an easier way?

Ohhh is that a script and not a mat preset? I could see why errors could occur with a 3rd party script if it was designed specifically to look for G8F.

To the second part, your shaping presets will work already. No extra work involved. There's no transferring involved.

The products copy the materials from the figure to the geoshells, as I understand it, but yes, it looks like they are coded to look for G8F.

I'm not sure what you mean by "just work". I have dozens of G8F characters that I have created from morph-dials and packages from the likes of Zev0. What I mean is that in order to use those characters on a G8.1F base, I would need to copy the morphs from my G8F characters. The only way I can think of is to use a Character Preset but I was asking whether there may be another way that I'm not seeing.

Its just a another doll you have to buy things for that your other older dolls can't play with . I have no more interest in updating to 8.1 anymore than I do updating to 4.15

After the update the Genesis 8 female essentials is missing, i can't find the genesis 8 female figure or 8.1.

Any idea of how i can fix that?

As others suggested in this thread, I had to uninstall and reinstall the Genesis 8 Female Essentials in DIM. Updating was not sufficient for me.

Even that did not help for me. I had to switch Studio to offline working mode. Once it connects, it loads a metadata update that seems to kill / invalidate smartcontent data for the G8 Starter essentials package. As long as I am not online with studio, it is working fine.

Tried to do that and switch to offline but the g8 starter essentials are still missing for me

    Same here.

OK, I read enough to go ahead and grab G8.1.  My big hope is the new face morphs really let me do some cool things with Sakura, Kanade and other more extreme figures where expressions were...let's just say "not as good" surprise  Thanks for the free upgrade!  yes

The REALLY deserves a FAQ post to answer questions like:

    • Will G8 clothes work on G8.1?
    • Do I need 4.15 to make it run?
    • Is vellus(?) hair included?
    • Will G8 characters work?
    • Will G8 expressions work?
    • etc...

     G8.1F

Random G8 morphs, including one (not random) transfered via GenX and Xtransfer to G8); G8F hair, G3F skin textures (I'd customised). Dforce Swimsuit for G8F - I made it myself. G8F pose stuff. G8.1 smile and something else.

As you can see, stuff just works. No idea on some of your questions

I did notice that parts of Power Pose don't seem to work?

Load Genesis 8.1 and your G8F character at the same time into the same scene.

    • Load Genesis 8.1 base figure.
    • Load fully morphed Genesis 8 figure.
    • Select fully morphed Genesis 8 figure.
      • Go to Parameters->Actor, right click, Copy Selected Items.
    • Select Genesis 8.1 base figure.
      • Go to Parameters->Actor, right click, Paste to Selected items.

I could save a preset, but I just copy the parameters & paste them instead. Pretty easy.

A quick post before meeting the sandman...

Just for the fun of it, installed the updated Starter Essentials for 4.12.0.86, fully aware that 4.15 is required.

Genesis 8.1 Female loaded in 0.9 seconds, no G8F morphs just the ones included in Starter Essentials for G8.1F
Autofit asking for character if not using the "Preferred Base" trick, both worked though.
Applying G8F materials from store bought character worked without a glitch
Rendering in IRAY worked both with the default G8.1F materials and the applied G8F materials
    G8F poses worked without problems

The included expressions look so much better than the ones used to with G8.0

Seems like I know what to do next weekend, as the W7 needs some updates before the 4.15 required GPU drivers let themselves be installed...

pity they didn't chuck a new outfit and hair in though even a texture for the Bardot one and dforce toulonese hair would be appreciated

I've played just a little bit with the new G8.1 base figure. There's a lot of negativity in this thread that is totally unwarranted. Folks, just take a look at the figure before you get grumpy about it! As far as I can see there will be some minor hickups during my transition from G8 to G8.1, but mostly it looks like smooth sailing. We get an improved base figure and can keep using almost all of our old stuff. Best of both worlds, really!

The new shader is fairly flexible and has some novel new features. I made a custom version of her shader settings for my personal runtime (left side is the default V8.1, right side is mine).

Just as a random thought of the day, I found the new UV layout kind of amusing, as I've done texture modding for female skins on Fallout 4 characters...which follow a very similar UV setup. And I gotta say, I prefer hiding the seam behind the ear and under the jaw. Why? Because now we have a seam across the collarbone...and that is the bane of anybody's existence when trying to make textures for Fallout 4 bodies. And, the issue still exists with the fact that body and head are both 4k in size and the head is obviously much smaller than the body in terms of proportion.

Jeez Louise - I remember the days of creating skins for Oblivion, FO3 and then Skyrim. Neck seams were the bane of my existance altough the issue in the older titles were due to the render engine treating the head and body as two separate entities and therefore not interpolating the geometry normals, iirc. Not sure how it works in FO4, but its Bethesda so who knows laugh

Back to Daz...it bugs me that the 8.1 torso is still relatively low resolution. There's a bit more room that they could have used had they increased the torso island to occupy more of the map area - combined with 5 or 6k torso maps that would have gone some way to remedying that. But at least now our bald characters can have a scalp at a similar level of detail to the face indecision. Good job...

Ha! Neat trick. I wouldn't have thought of that . The Character preset method doesn't save the geografts on my characters and I'm guessing that neither does your method. The Character preset does save the materials though.

    Thanks, that worked :)

  • Was there supposed to be an essential pack with the Gen 8.1 update?  I haven't had a chance to read through all 15 pages yet, but when I went to test the figure all I had was base Genesis 8.1 female/shape/base skin and no other new skins.   Am I missing anything or is that what came with the update?

declaring 'no sale' over 8.1 and 4.15 which are both free comes across as a tad salty.

Gotta side with Ivy on this one. It's not salty. It's sensible. YMMV.

Do I have to upgrade to Daz 4.15 in order to use the new G8.1...I currently have 4.12 installed and not exactly looking forware to upgradign with so many bugs still in it.

I'm not sure what bugs you're talking about. I've been using it with no issue, but yes, the new shader requires 4.15 as does some of the automatic ports of stuff from G8 to 8.1.

sooo.. guess it's even worse when you still have 4.11 installed - cuz yeah, i didn't upgrade to 4.12 when it was fresh outta the box and there were bugs, then i totally forgot about it.. and now we have what, 4.15 already?? where did the last months go??? i just kinda noticed a sales page about 4.14 with this.. eeeh [insert name of new render engine sounding like a lamp bulb here] and forgot again or rather waited cuz yeah, haha, potential bugs...
short, either i do the big huge jump and upgrade from 4.11 to 4.15 - or G8.1 wise, i go back under my rock.

point being, i'm not even sure i'm all that interested in G8.1 right now - only the female version yet = no use for me whatsoever, the only interesting thing for me is maybe the cross-compatible *hem* bits (fi-nal-ly! guess daz was getting annoyed about us purchasing stuff at *this* store).
and right now, my 4.11 works perfectly smooth, it's my (only, besides cats) little joy and de-stress zone - last thing i need is a 4.15 that somehow messes up, i have zero tolerance for bugs/reinstalls or anything tech related etc right now...
short: can somebody certify me that 4.15 is absolutely free of danger, stress and other annoyances or major catastrophes?

I have done updates for all four Genesis 8 Female Legacy UVs products, and they should be available now for DIM and other download methods.  The scripts had to be altered slightly, and there are new UVs for the 8.1 Eyelashes mesh.  But the operation should be pretty much as before.

I've just bought a microskin map from that website to test - cost $6 - rather than invest in to V8.1 (considering I can only get 4.15 to run on my laptop, not on my desktop).

Basically, the full microskin map 'pack' consists of a 2K cavity, height and normal map of a close up of a patch of skin (probably 2" x 2"?). I suspect the 8.1 shader uses the height or normal map and you adjust the tiling to minimise seams across boundaries. I'm trialling just using the normal map in place of a specular map in the top coat bump map slot in the regular iray shader, using the inbuilt image editor to control tiling as I reckon that will produce a similar high resolution specular reflection detail - however I suspect the 8.1 shader does a bit more than that, possibly blending the microskin with the main bump/normal map as well as affecting specular channels.

If 8.1 is "just" an update, why did we need to pay again for her the full price, when we own Victoria 8 or one of her bundles?

Genesis 8.1 Female is free. Victoria 8.1 is a new character that uses Genesis 8.1 Female, it isn't an update of Victoria 8 (anymore than Victoria 8 was an update of Victoria 7). Each named character is a new entity, even if it is in the style of a previous character of the same name.

So, she is no update, but why did the webssite say, she is... very confusing.

I have also updated my DAZ Studio via the Install Manager with the updated Starter Sets and the latest Studio Version, but can't find any basic 8.1 character? More questions than helpful answers.

Anagenessis 2 does not work on G8.1

The script runs without error, but the result doesn't look good. It appears that the new material zones confuse the script. I also think some aspects of Anagenessis are UV specific.

For skins with G8 UVs, one can use Anagenessis on the regular old G8F, save the results as a Material Preset, and then apply that to G8.1

I can't think of a way to use Anagenessis on skins with G8.1 UVs.

No, just an update for Genesis 8 Starter Essentials and for the Default Resources (for the new shader).

  • At least you can use daz, I keep getting this error: DAZStudio.exe caused ACCESS_VIOLATION in module "C:\Program Files\DAZ 3D\DAZStudio4\plugins\dzshaderbuilder.dll" at 0033:000000009C7CE67B And NO I didn't send a ticket because it isn't MY issue
