Got a slow computer, or have a scene with a lot of characters and don't want to slow your computer down with insane hair models? Check out my list of SHORT hair models that are great for slower computers!

https://mooncraftrp.com/index.php/2020/11/23/top-10-short-hair-models-for-slow-computers/

This list also includes tons of other short hair models and how many polygons they have to give you an idea of which hair models will require the most rendering power to work with.

  • I had someone ask, but I already did a Top 10 for Long Hair models. The link to that is on the site, and linked in the post.

Please, could you add links to the models?

..anything with dForce is not friendly to old and slow hardware. They may render quick but there is also the time needed to run the sim as well that adds in.

Have you read the list and the artical with it, because it clearly states it doesn't include dforce models.

That is a lot of work on my end, however, you can easily copy the names down and search for them in the Daz store. The names listed are the product names.

Well yes, which is why I dont list dforce hair and I state that in the article.

  • LOL Been stuck on your site for over an hour reading all the articles you have.

Thanks :) Starting off in Daz I was really frustrated at the lack of tutorials, and so its kind of my unofficial mission to try and document and create Daz Tutorials for free.

No biggie, I took a screenshot from my smart content to generate the promo image.

...I have a number of short hair products that are not on the list, some which render fairly quick,

    Yes?
And again, if you read the article I tested only the ones I own.

  • Nice article, thanks for sharing!

Hairs are nasty if you are rendereing a 'crowd' (more than 2 characters...) so it is a very useful information, not only for slow computers.

I hope that some day DAZ will release information about their products poly/vertex count. I mean it's not the best experience to buy a product with an interactive license option only to find out it has more than a million polygons. Yes, refund is an option, yes DAZ is very helpful and all, but it would save time for everyone to have that info on the product page. Imagine how easy this comparison would be, if we could have that info.

Yea, with crowd settings you def will feel the pain on hair.

I wish Daz included in their product info in the store things like polygon counts.

...I have four of the ten from the list are Estal Hair (G2F) Zarah Hair  (G3/8F) Basic Hair (G2M) and Bold Hair (G2M).

I guesd I should have mentioned I was considering adding a few more from my library here on the thread, but need to figure out how to determine their uncompressed file size.

Oh, file size is something I would not be able to really help with. Maybe the best method for me to check would be to look at the DIM and look at the file sizes? Even so, those are compressed and not accurate :(

...ah, I should have mentioned polygon total, my bad.

The model numbers I provided should give you an idea as long as they are on the list. While they are triangulated, you can easily figure out what the quad numbers would look like.

    Good tutorial, thanks.

If there are links to DAZ store for those top 10 hairs, and point out it is for G8M or G3F etc., that will be much convinence.
